Stoup brewery has a great atmosphere, location, and beer garden. Their taster glasses are fun and is a blast on a sunny weekend. However, the beers and service are average. For a taproom the service doesn't really amount to more than just pouring some beers so I don't care too much about that. However, I did a rainbow taster and here's how it went. They had a few good beers but many were in the same taste realm where I didn't see much difference. ______________________________________________________________ Hef -- smelled like a smoked ham and had the same taste. To play devil's advocate I didn't notice it until my friend pointed it out but completely ruined that one for me. -- skip this one Porter -- Good porter and necessary to cleanse the pallets in between tastes. NW red -- Great color, decent bitter, but very similar in tastes to the IPAs. India Golden Ale -- My favorite beer there. I'm a hop head though and strong beers are always yummy. Citra IPA -- The most floral to the nose but can't taste much difference between the citra, NW IPA, session IPA, and Azacca pale. Azacca pale -- See Citra minus the floral addition. Northwest IPA -- See Citra and Azacca Session IPA -- See Citra, Azacca, Northwest _______________________________________________________________ I love craft breweries and Stoup has a great opportunity here. As a homebrewer, I'm always jealous of their setup and they have a great location. read more

I like this place because it's a couple blocks from my house. But honestly, since visiting a few more Ballard breweries (Hilliard's and Reubens are standouts), I haven't been back. The beers are so-so, the service is so-so, and it's always hard to find a seat. I really want to like this place more since it's so close, but I just can't. read more

Came here as part of a WABL tour. Not a bad little place, all in all. The first thing you notice is that this place is pretty damn small. There is only one bathroom that everyone has to share, which seems awkward. Relatively little seating in here, though there are a few other "shelves" that can work as a place to set your beer while you chat with friends. All that said, it's got a cozy feel that's still relatively welcoming. There are only six taps here, which I find underwhelming, especially in Ballard. They will do flights, which is really nice, so you can try everything they have available. The beer here is decent, though nothing particularly amazing. I did happen to particularly enjoy their porter. All in all, it's a nice stop, though not a destination. Not bad if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Really cool spot in the Ballard brewery district! This was my official summer hangout place; I couldn't get enough of the wide open patio and wide selection of cold beers just calling my name. Also a bonus: Stoup typically has a food truck parked right next door so you can get your grub on while enjoying cheap, tasty beer straight from the source. Come on a Saturday when you have about a 90% chance of Marination Mobile being there and you can feast on tasty Korean/Hawaiian BBQ. It's insane how well it pairs with this beer. Over the summer they served a delicious Citra IPA or as they call it at Stoup "sunshine in a glass." I'm very fond of this one as it closely resembles my beloved session IPAs which is the only beer worth drinking on a hot day, in my opinion. Some of their other beers fell a little flat for me like the Bavarian Hefe (tastes like bananas...no joke!) and the NW Red but overall it's super fun to come to Stoup, sample beers until you're heart's content and have the best of times with friends. read more

First date chronicles: Stoup date was a success! It was a (rare) warm, sunny day in March so my date and I opted for an outdoor patio date. Stoup's patio is spacious, colorful, and the brewery is *just* far enough away from the craziness of Market & Ballard Ave. I drank a Citra IPA & a Hoppy Farmhouse Ale. Saisons & farmhouse ales are my favorite styles of beer, and I can say with confidence that Stoup brews 'em right. The Citra IPA on the other hand didn't pack enough of a flavor punch. It was too light on flavor and a little disappointing. I LOVE this brewery trend of bring-your-own food. We sat near a couple that shared an entire pizza (couple goals, right?) which only made us ravenous with hunger and unfortunately....the guest food truck had packed up just as we had arrived. We would have stayed longer had there been a food option - even just a light snack. read more

We were waiting for a table and the guy made us stand outside in the rain instead of letting us stand under the garage. He produced to say "oh man yeah it got really shitty out here". They also have umbrellas to give out to customers to spare and didn't even offer it to us. They don't care about customers clearly do not go here. read more

Excellent beer and great taproom with a fun atmosphere. The beer garden is awesome - loved the outdoor fireplace! There is also an upstairs patio. Great vibe and friendly staff with plenty of beer selection. Tried a flight of six - generous samplers and all were delicious. The sour beer in particular was perfect. Only thing to fault would be the wait for the bar, but the line wasn't as bad as it looked. Don't miss this place if you're in Ballard and love beer! read more

This brewery was very good and a cool place to hang out with plenty of patio seating to go along with the indoor. I tried three beers, the Northwest Red, Mosaic Pale, and Porter. All three were very good. The reason I didn't give them a fifth star is because Big Time and Reuben's recommend them and when I asked the bartender for another brewery with food (a dark haired, young woman) she just said she didn't know without so much as an inquiry with the other two employees. There wasn't another customer around, so she had time. Every other place spread the wealth and she tried to hoard it...not cool! read more

Stoup is my new favorite! I went on a brewery tour here in May and finally made it back (wish it hadn't taken so long). Tried the Northwest Red and had the Porter. One of the best porter's in town in my opinion. Danielle's Crepes is usually parked outside and has great eats. Ready to get a growler and take some Stoup home! If they have something barrel aged available, try it! I like most of the beers I tried at Stoup. I always love IPAs and, in that department, Stoup certainly does not disappoint, but when I tried that Rum Barrel Aged Dark Strong... POW! I got punched in the mouth with flavor! And I loved it. You can taste that rum, oak goodness... This tells me they're doing some experimental type of stuff that I need to try EVERY time I visit. read more

Cool atmosphere with the outdoor seating, great beers, but holy unruly dogs, Batman! I have my service dog with me and stay in the dog friendly area with friends who have dogs, but the majority of dogs in here are allowed to wander around on long leashes, lock eyes, and lunge at other dogs because their owners aren't paying attention. PLEASE, for the safety of human and canine customers, please implement some rules about proper dog etiquette before disaster happens! Industrial chic looking taproom mixes with neighborhood tavern makes this an interesting stop on your Ballard microbrewery tour. I tried the sampler and I was about 50/50 on it. The NW Red pales compared to the Maritime Pacific red served right down the street. I was a fan of the ISA (India Session Ale) but the porter was not something I would order again. There is a nice food truck outside and a nice vibe to the place. I found the seating uncomfortable but enough beers in who cares. Not the best but certainly worth a stop. read more

I went to Stoup's brewery today as part of the Beer Week here in Seattle. The big door was open and the driveway was chained off for a beer garden setting. It was a friendly crowd enjoying the mostly sunny afternoon. I enjoyed their special bitter, an English style ale that was a nice break from the highly hopped ales found all over Ballard. It was a well crafted ale. The food truck on the curb was pretty busy. I will go back on another weekend and try a couple beers, and probably bring a growler for them to fill. read more

I enjoyed this neighborhood spot. Was a great place to enjoy a beer and people watch. All walks of life from your neighborhood drunk to young families to people coming in for growler fills. Rotating food trucks makes it a great place to get food with your brews. read more

This is my favorite brewery in Seattle. There is a fresh beer on tap for everyone - porters, IPAs, lagers, experimentalist, even some ciders. I often fill my growler here. The beers are perfect. They do not serve food, but have a rotating food truck out front. My only complaint is for the neighbors that bring their dogs inside. I love dogs. But please stop doing that. Pet dogs don't belong inside a business. They lick the floors, it's disgusting! Their Porter is my favorite. My wife loves their Alt Bier. I sometimes get the Saison in a growler to share with food at home. I have not tried them all but have not been disappointed by any of my choices so far. read more

The place is bigger and more "corporate" than the others we visited. The beers were average. The scene was bustling and the space was big. Only one bathroom for a space that size is a challenge. Spent a soggy Saturday in Ballard checking out the breweries...somebody has to do it! We had read all of the great reviews about Stoup, so decided to start our day there. We knew we were in for a treat when we walked through the door and the place was packed. The space is not huge, but they have it situated to seat the maximum amount of people and the design is great for people meeting/watching. The beers were great; we tasted a wide variety of the beers and didn't find one we didn't like! The bar staff was very knowledgeable about the beers and directed us towards beers that met our preferences - hubby is an IPA guy and I prefer a Belgium style beer.
