I'm originally from Boston, so I frequented the BPL in Copley Square quite a bit. Since I moved around so much, I feel quite at home at Thayer Public Library. Staff are very accommodating and polite, and able to help with almost anything you need. Their media collection is massive compared to the BPL, and I simply just love it. Plus, I live across the street, so yay me!

Walking up to the library, you're struck by just how grand it looks, atop a hill, with beautiful stone work. It has a town in the middle, a chimney off to the right side, and a great big archway entrance facing the street, although the actual entrance is located around the corner from that. I'm always enamored with old buildings and this was such a treat. A lot has been done to maintain the original features of the inside. On the first floor near the elevators they have a bunch of WW1 era posters proudly displayed in the hallway. There are a few busts perched on shelves near the entrance. To get upstairs you can take a set of stairs located near the elevator, or you can take the hidden staircase located on the street-facing side of the building. The hidden staircase is pretty neat. The second floor is beautiful. They have a great big children's section with window seats, some open floor space, plenty of natural light, and beautiful ceiling lights. The second room is all non-fiction books. It has a nice high ceiling, and small reading nooks with tables. The third room is where the fireplace is, and some historic artifacts from Ames' and Easton's history. There are also collections of book on local history and some decades old public records. I spent a lot of time upstairs, just in awe of everything. The architecture and interior design are beautiful. I wish I had a library this nice in my town!

we came into the canton public library expecting a level of normalcy.... however as we sat down in…read morefront of our designated 'Mac', we found ourselves upon a treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration, not only defying our low expectation but also bringing our opinion of this very establishment to new heights!!! When we had turned on the computer we saw with our very eyes a folder titled, "Abandon All Hope All Ye Who Enter," though the title sounded rather chilling, the contents told of a whimsical and joyous story which our minds were far too primal to possibly comprehend. if thou wouldst get the chancest, traverse into that very folder, but be warned, thou wont come out the samest!!!

You can hear their entire conversations, all the time, and despite them working here, they seem to have no clue about their loud voices. Good luck focusing on anything while at the computer terminal as the librarians behind you are in full blast mode seemingly oblivious to the people around them trying to focus, very frustrating. Don't ask for change for the copy machine as the librarian at the front desk became extremely snarky about how the library is not supposed to make any change for anyone at anytime. I was seeking change for a $1 to make some copies, but live and learn... It's doesn't get any better at the front desk of the library where the workers sometimes walk around, being helpful, but again so incredibly loud that you can clearly hear them from the opposite end of the 1st floor. It's not only the librarians that are loud, it's the people in there and the library staff very rarely ask anyone to quiet down. The librarians will go above and beyond to be of assistance, but this library is best off being not visited especially if you hope for a quiet atmosphere.

These shelves are ONLY supported by FOUR clips! After speaking with the director, she said that she would contact the Library Board of Trustees about this the situation,but it would take quite a while to remedy the situation. When advised that the hold bookshelves were not Handicap Accessible, I was informed by the library director that " the new library was HP compliant with our state laws, but not COMPLETELY accesible! This person was very non professional and extremely indignant and rude. Apathetic would be a compliment to her general behavior. The CITIZENS of Sharon deserve a more caring and customer service director. This is not a personal attack. No one likes to be treated with being treated with rudeness, not MEANNESS AND pompous behavior! I think it is time to hire a nes director ASAP new director. Someone who really CARES about their profession and service to our community our. All the other librarians are very customer friendly, knowledgeable, veryhelpful, and make the experience of visiting an enjoyable experience! Maybe they can set an example for our library director. Located in one of the toughest towns in Massachusetts, with a budget that should be at least doubled, and seriously understaffed this library delivers an incredible range of services. The collections are the best found in any local library of its size in the state and the historical collections are a treasure trove of Southeastern Massachusetts heritage matched only by larger facilities in Boston. Most outstanding is the quality of reference service delivered to the ever-changing needs of city residents. With a large transient population that has few other outlets for meaningful information the reference department has put together a collection and commitment to service that meets a huge level of need at minimal cost. How they do business could serve as a case study in a library school. A decade ago city residents led by the former director persevered and raised enough to renovate the early 20th century Carnegie building and give its collections a proper home. One would hope the city's residents value this gem in their midst.
