For starters the librarians are consistently helpful and top-notch. They go out of their way to help you find whatever it is you're looking for and to be available for assistance. The library building itself, while outwardly a bit dated in design, is light, airy and comfortable inside. Sign up for emails from the library on their website and you will hear about upcoming musical concerts, art exhibits, movie showings, the book club, lectures, readings by authors, and a host of other offerings. The library has its own gallery where you can regularly view all kinds of art. In addition to the books, the library has terrific DVD and CD collections. There is art work that you can borrow too and museum passes available. And all this is free! We're so lucky to have a great library system in general but the Hingham library is really something special. It's a great place to spend time.

It has a large kids room with books from infant up through adolescent, and the rest of the book selection is sizeable, if not the Library of Congress. The staff have been nothing short of delightful with me and others that I've seen them interact with, and I can't help feeling like I'm taking advantage of the system simply by coming a couple times a week to work. I had an event in the area to go to, but also had some time to kill beforehand. Since it was…read moreraining, I naturally wanted to read a book in a quiet area. I found BPL Roslindale on google. Since it is Boston, parking was scarce and it was a hassle (the parking lot they do have is for employees only). After a couple minutes of driving around, I found side street parking and walked about 3 minutes. The inside of the library is modern, clean, and bright; they have a lot of overhead lights but the large windows let in a lot of the natural sunlight. I liked that they had a couple tables and some seats along the windows looking out. I sat at one of the comfy chairs in this area. I didn't do much exploring but the main desk with librarians was at the center of the library; very convenient and central location. The downside of the open floor plan was that it wasn't the quietest library, but it also wasn't difficult to concentrate. They had a decent amount of books. I think it is only one floor only. It is handicapped accessible since the entrance is one long and wide corridor and the space between book shelves does seem wide enough. They do close early--6 pm on a weekday--compared to my library back home. Based on the number of kids I heard and see walk in with their guardians, I assume they have a lot of kid friendly activities or at least an area for kids.

I went and got the library director because it got so bad and she said to me "The library is noisy you should have brought headphones." Seriously! The library isn't noisy your workers are! And nobody expects silence but we expect it to be relatively quiet so we can hear ourselves think. Nobody was making any noise but the workers at the front desk being obnoxiously loud. Then she told me "This isnt a college library." Lady I am 30 years old but thanks for the compliment.

I was up visiting Massachusetts a few weeks ago, and I spent part of a day roaming around Easton,…read moreso of course I had to check out the Ames library. Walking up to the library, you're struck by just how grand it looks, atop a hill, with beautiful stone work. It has a town in the middle, a chimney off to the right side, and a great big archway entrance facing the street, although the actual entrance is located around the corner from that. I'm always enamored with old buildings and this was such a treat. A lot has been done to maintain the original features of the inside. On the first floor near the elevators they have a bunch of WW1 era posters proudly displayed in the hallway. There are a few busts perched on shelves near the entrance. To get upstairs you can take a set of stairs located near the elevator, or you can take the hidden staircase located on the street-facing side of the building. The hidden staircase is pretty neat. The second floor is beautiful. They have a great big children's section with window seats, some open floor space, plenty of natural light, and beautiful ceiling lights. The second room is all non-fiction books. It has a nice high ceiling, and small reading nooks with tables. The third room is where the fireplace is, and some historic artifacts from Ames' and Easton's history. There are also collections of book on local history and some decades old public records. I spent a lot of time upstairs, just in awe of everything. The architecture and interior design are beautiful. I wish I had a library this nice in my town!

I love this little Oak Square area branch of the library. It is always super clean, organized, and…read morelight-filled. I like how it is smaller. It feels homey and I can peruse the shelves without feeling overwhelmed. I mostly just order through my account and pick up on the holds shelf which is very convenient. A plus is that there are a couple of street parking spots outside!

This library has reopened in Oak Square and I couldn't be more thrilled. The renovation is amazing…read more It's mix of preserving original architecture and also giving it some new modern touches. There's an elevator and stairs right when you walk in to make it accessible to everyone. The librarians are super friendly and when you walk in you have the option to take a left (heading into the children's space) or take a right. No matter which direction you take, you can do a full circle and end up back at the front desk area. Great flow and setup that creates a community feel. This library is full of books, seating, natural light, study desks by the windows looking out at Oak Square, computers and a printer, and more. So glad to see it back up and running in the neighborhood!

What I can say personally of my experiences is that each time I go I have found that the Staff…read morereally goes that extra mile to help me get the information or location in the library to complete my project! I want to give a shout out to two really helpful Staff that made my time there seamless. The first one was SYDNEY, actually left the desk and guided me to the right location and used the equipment to get my project done since I was unfamiliar how to maneuver it! She directed me to another floor where another Staff member DUSTIN, guided and helped me complete project! I hope the Supervisors know how wonderful these two Staffers are! Thanks for all your help!
