Awesome places to sit around and ... learn. I really like going to this place looks like great. The library people are very laid-back.

Usually a place that is going to be renovated is run down and ready for some love, but because the town and the citizens have taken such good care of this place and use it so regularly, their renovation is for an expansion. I'm excited to see what happens when it changes. As it stands, I think this place is great! Working right down the road, I frequent this library at least once a week. They have an extensive selection of DVDs and videos with many new releases as well as foreign films. They also have a pretty good selection of audio books. I love the small upper balcony that has a few tables tucked away - a nice place to do some work and people watch at the same time. The librarians who work here are always friendly and helpful. There are only a few computers for use (4 I think), but it's never that long of a wait - remember that Walpole is a town, not a city. The library loses one star for 2 reasons: 1. Their audio book loan policy. While books can be taken out for 3 weeks, audio books can only be checked out for 2 weeks. While, they can be renewed, I don't understand why the amount of time is shorter. I pretty much have to renew every book I take out. 2. Parking. Every time I have to park in the back parking lot (because the streets are filled) I feel like I'm about to get into an accident. The entry into it is too small, so if one person is trying to get out, the other person can't get in.

So much better than the average PC's at every other library) - Printers that state of the art, and double-side paper! - Never crowded - Cool coupon bin "take a coupon, leave a coupon" - Organized and clean library - Decent variety of DVD's - Decent variety of books, that doesn't make it impossible to find something - For a branch, more than generous hours: Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri and Sat 10-5 and Tuesday 1-9. - Friendly, helpful staff, who are always around and always friendly! (especially Lisa and Pam) - Great atmosphere for the community. I see a lot of the same people, and especially in the senior community, this place gives seniors a great place to go on a regular basis. Love the frequency of the same people who use this place. Cons: Literally NONE. This is a great find in Dedham for anyone in the area to enjoy. Normally I don't say to go out of your way to go somewhere, but I prefer this over my local library by 1000% (the Westwood Library is so bad!). Highly suggested for a Minuteman Library in the Dedham area. Hopefully, Dedham always keeps their branch open, it is such a great and convenient stop. 5 stars for life. Love this place.

Extending their hours extensively (and opening the main branch on Saturdays), improving their services, adding all sorts of 3D printers, video games, computers and more. They have truly captured the idea of "maker spaces" that both public libraries and school libraries are trying to capture in the here and now. They truly use their space well (which they have a lot of), and have added all the features that make the library a great place to be for everybody. The extremely comfortable seating throughout the library is fantastic as well. Typically I feel like most libraries have chairs that are as hard as rocks at the computers, not here, where there is a new high table in the main room with tall comfortable seating. Fabulous. Now they even give out the first ten prints free and ten cents for any additional pages. Never paying the twenty cents at the Norwood Library (while I love Norwood, that library is a JOKE) per side of each page with the computers that don't work and the ridiculous seating arrangements. The staff always go above and beyond to be helpful. I don't know the staff here all that well (I visit the Endicott Branch more frequently), but they all make efforts to get to know the people who frequent the library. Again, in the Norwood Library this is only the opposite (which is really sad!). Always love the Dedham Public Library, and even more now since it looks so great, inviting, and useful for everyone! 5 stars, more if possible. I've been to a LOT of libraries and while others in the area are pretty good (Needham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton); none compare to this library and the Endicott Branch!

The facilities aren't new or very impressive, but it's everything else that draws me here. Super Awesome Fun Time is an open story/music time for kids of all ages. It can get rowdy at times, but it's a full hour of programming: half an hour of staff-led songs and stories, and then another half hour of a rotating variety of activities (water table, painting, peg boards). I see kids all the way from babies to six-year-olds having a blast. There are 8 iPads for kids to play with! And there's always an activity to do at the table as you enter, a teepee, a basketball hoop, the list goes on. They also rent out toys! Isn't that genius? Kids get bored of toys so quickly, so borrowing them from the library and then returning them when the kids are done with them is the perfect solution. Third, there is NO LATE FEE. How? Why? Who knows. I think people are so bewildered by it that they have a "guilt jar" for some. :)

After returning back to Hyde Park I maintained residency in Hyde Park because I love this city. I am a full-time college student and a single parent of two. I love the children's floor they have and I am at the library a minimum of three times a week and for hours on end each visit. Today while reading and taking notes there was a young woman and man who I believe work here that were talking at the circulation desk. At this point I have been here for about 2 and a half hours and they have been there taking the while time. A woman walks in looking for a book she left here the night before. As it turns out she couldn't check the book out for whatever reason and the librarian on duty told her she would hold it for her for the next day. That specific librarian was on her lunch break and the younger woman "barely" looked for the book before she told the patron she couldn't find it. The patron seemed agitated not fully understanding the situation, in my opinion. The patron kept repeating, "she said she would eave it for me". The younger woman said she is on her lunch break come back in a hour and the patron repeated her previous statement. The younger woman then said, "well I don't know what to tell you I can't find it. She will be back in a hour from lunch come back then". As a social worker I was appalled by the treatment that this patron received at the library today. It appeared in my opinion that the patron may have had some cognitive delays and couldn't understand why they couldn't just reach out to the librarian in question and ask her where the book was. Without a second thought the younger woman went right back into her conversation while I sat at my computer in awe. This will not stop me from coming to this library but if I had a closer option for me and my children I would leave this branch and never look back.

You can hear their entire conversations, all the time, and despite them working here, they seem to have no clue about their loud voices. Good luck focusing on anything while at the computer terminal as the librarians behind you are in full blast mode seemingly oblivious to the people around them trying to focus, very frustrating. Don't ask for change for the copy machine as the librarian at the front desk became extremely snarky about how the library is not supposed to make any change for anyone at anytime. I was seeking change for a $1 to make some copies, but live and learn... It's doesn't get any better at the front desk of the library where the workers sometimes walk around, being helpful, but again so incredibly loud that you can clearly hear them from the opposite end of the 1st floor. It's not only the librarians that are loud, it's the people in there and the library staff very rarely ask anyone to quiet down. The librarians will go above and beyond to be of assistance, but this library is best off being not visited especially if you hope for a quiet atmosphere.
