The infrastructure is nothing to write home about but there are near daily activities for children, an excellent array of books on hand and more museum passes than you could shake a stick at... all things that combine for a great library going experience. The staff are cheerful, the late fees are lenient and the patrons friendly. It's the kind of place where fellow borrowers will be thrilled when you put them on to Huxley after seeing them checking out Orwell. Sharon Public Library is a quaint and restorative athenaeum.

You can hear their entire conversations, all the time, and despite them working here, they seem to have no clue about their loud voices. Good luck focusing on anything while at the computer terminal as the librarians behind you are in full blast mode seemingly oblivious to the people around them trying to focus, very frustrating. Don't ask for change for the copy machine as the librarian at the front desk became extremely snarky about how the library is not supposed to make any change for anyone at anytime. I was seeking change for a $1 to make some copies, but live and learn... It's doesn't get any better at the front desk of the library where the workers sometimes walk around, being helpful, but again so incredibly loud that you can clearly hear them from the opposite end of the 1st floor. It's not only the librarians that are loud, it's the people in there and the library staff very rarely ask anyone to quiet down. The librarians will go above and beyond to be of assistance, but this library is best off being not visited especially if you hope for a quiet atmosphere.

Kristin was a huge help to me today, she was very patient and showed me how to use Microsoft Word, attach a resume, save it, etc. Such a great place. with nice people like her, what a difference her kindness made, She knows computers and has a easy way of talking and dealing with people, just awesome. I've been to this library many…read moretimes with my children and have had the same experience (everytime) with the staff of this library. They are rude, curt, dismissive, condescending and lack basic customer service skills. There were many times I waited at the desk to ask a simple question and it takes them 15 minutes to even acknowledge you. I'm not sure if they're just miserable people in general, or miserable people because they are working in a library, but it is a disappointing experience for sure when you just want to take your kids to grab some books.

I went and got the library director because it got so bad and she said to me "The library is noisy you should have brought headphones." Seriously! The library isn't noisy your workers are! And nobody expects silence but we expect it to be relatively quiet so we can hear ourselves think. Nobody was making any noise but the workers at the front desk being obnoxiously loud. Then she told me "This isnt a college library." Lady I am 30 years old but thanks for the compliment.

It's always decorated for different holidays and seasons too. They have a large selection of children's books which I loved when I taught third grade just across the street! Whales quilts and…read moreparks The very first idea for a library in Norton was in 1886 when a few book were dumped in the town hall. A few years later a "real" library and building were constructed and roughly 2,000 books were proudly stacked on the shelves. The served nicely for a while but the library's collection of books and more modern devices, unimagined when the library was constructed, started to appear. It became obvious a new and much larger library was needed. So in 1991 the brand new and much larger library was opened. It holds over 60,000 volumes as well as numerous works of art, displays and exhibits and a cool community room. It even has the traditional New England quilt that some new libraries have seemed to gotten away from, as well as a great display of a whale mom with her calf. Cool stuff. In 1999 the town decided to build a little park and patio on the grounds of the library. Not a place for serious hiking but a nice place to take a short stroll or find some shade and read a book. A very pleasant library and a great place to spend some time and if you're not careful, maybe even learn something.

What struck me most is how friendly the staff is. They know most patrons by name and are always willing to help answer questions or find a solution. The WiFi is free but a bit unreliable. It would not let me log on to many major sites, but several minutes later after the staff reset the internet, it allowed those sites. Even before the reset, some sites worked (email, social media) but many others did not. Parking lot has ample space and there's even a few antiques decorating the library...it's like a tiny museum!
