I wanted to be sure because I'm elderly, on a fixed income and it's very hard for me to move everything myself. Well, I just got notice that I have a SECOND rate increase in LESS THAN A YEAR! Talk about bait and switch! Also, the unit is barely climate controlled with huge roaches are everywhere, and there is no lighting inside the unit. At the rate I'm supposed to pay now, I would have been better off at Public Storage because they have REAL climate control, NO roaches and plenty of lighting, and it was closer to my house.

Called Sean and he was willing to try and work with us, but we did not want to haul all of the items to a smaller space. So we cleaned out our shed, built shelves and ended contract. Am thinking they should keep that low rate for the year and then revisit. It was kind of like a gotcha.

He's like "nope not gonna sell you insurance, thats why we offer it only when you move in" Ok no need to be an a hole about it and trying to make me feel dumb for not taking it when I moved in. And he literally started laughing in my face and said I'm not gonna give you an answer. Literally laughing... As if this is funny that all my stuff is at risk in their facility. Terrible customer service. Terrible worker. Will never come here again. Can't wait to get my stuff out of here.

There was a dumpster in the lot that did not have any signs on it other than the dumpster company logo. I looked inside and it appeared to be a trash receptacle because there was some old furniture and other trash inside it. So we threw the vacuum and boxes inside. Just then, after we had already thrown everything in, the manager comes out of her manager's apartment and with a very nasty demeanor tells us that we can't throw our trash out there. I said I'm sorry we didn't know it wasn't a trash dumpster because there's no sign. However, that's all we have, it was only an old vacuum and some small boxes. We don't have any more garbage. She told us we need to figure out how to get our stuff out of this 6-foot tall dumpster! We are two 50-something year old ladies, one with bad knees and myself with only one good arm (I have surgery on it in 2 weeks) and we had my special needs little boy with us who was throwing a fit because he was hot and tired. This woman could've easily just given us a gentle reprimand or warning, or even asked us to pay a few bucks for the extra 10-15 lbs we added to the dumpster. But no, she was extremely nasty to us right from the get go, as if we were some teenage thugs committing a crime! We ended up having to drive all the way back to my house, get two ladders, drive back to the storage complex, and climb into a rusty dumpster to get a measly box and a vacuum out of it! We could've easily been injured doing so and Extra Space would've had a HUGE liability lawsuit on their hands. I can't speak for my friend who has a unit there right now, but I have had units in this place before and I will never give them my business again! I will also be telling everybody I know about how horribly we were treated and they should take their business elsewhere too.

Joe's family has owned this property for 22 years. Family owned storage facilities are the VERY best especially if professionally impeccably run like Sawyer. I rented from Public storage until this year in Minnesota - - they raised my rent 50 % in May to $1500 a month for 2 thirty foot deep temp controlled units after being a loyal customer for 18 years!!! 4 years ago the top middle and local management throughout Public Storage that had worked for years, suddenly ALL quit in 2-3 months, and then rental rates sky rocketed each year. This is happening nationally with all giant corporate storage companies! I now will ONLY use top quality local regional family owned storage companies. This facility originally was an ice skating rink then a post office. They retrofitted it into a spotless, perfectly lit, very very well air conditioned/ fully temperature controlled medium sized facility. The front door slim door mounted security key pad is very easy to use. We have been coming to Sarasota visiting in-laws for 35 years and never knew this building and street existed. It is very nicely tucked away hidden off two quiet small roads. Security outside and inside are excellent and someone is in the office/ facility daily 9-5, saturdays 9-12. I feel 100 % secure here coming solo ( over age 70). Location is excellent if you live in Osprey, Sarasota, Siesta Key, Downtown Sarasota and worth the drive if you live in Longboat Key. Enjoy!
