She didn't make any attempt to show us rings that may be similar or rings we may like instead. She didn't even ask to take our ring sizes. We got in at 11 AM and by 11:05 AM she was essentially shooing us out the door. It felt like she just wanted a couple that would buy a multiple thousand dollar ring immediately after entering the store. I'd give this store 0 stars if it was just Elaine Howard. However, Dennis, the resident gemologist greeted us after Elaine Howard quickly rushed to try and sell some Mother's Day trinkets to the 2 other customers in the store. Dennis was very nice, sized our ring fingers, and informed us more about our design choice. 2 stars for Dennis. Thank you Dennis for being kind and not cold. We would never use Star Jewelers to view any jewelry again. The same day we went to Polaris and purchased the Gabriel & Co. Royalty engagement ring with the matching wedding band and a high quality lab grown alexandrite as the center stone. It's not much, but I'm glad Star Jewelers didn't get my 6K worth of business for the day. The jeweler at Polaris was much more receptive and spent a lot of time with us to go through possible rings we'd liked and helped us to see what our desired ring design would look like on our fingers even though they also didn't stock the specific ring from Gabriel & Co.

I had insurance so I filed a claim & they directed me to return to Diamond Cellar to pick out a replacement ring. Immediately it was not a pleasant experience. The receptionist never placed me in que despite being the 3rd person in the door after they opened at 10am. I sat annoyed for over 30 mins before approaching her again and asked if I should just make an appt. She said no there was a mix up. I wish I would've just left then. So much happened in between then and now but on 4/25 I called asked if I could speak to a manager because after placing my replacement order they have continued to try to mark the price up despite everything being written up properly & me having both the receipts for the stone as well as the setting. I originally called 3.5 hrs before closing and the receptionist told me if the female manager felt it was important she would return my call. I called back 25 mins before they closed again asking to speak to the manager. She then informed me the manager would call me back closer to closing time. I said do you not close in 25 mins? She said yes then abruptly ended the phone call that ended with "bye". At this point I'm going to try to reach someone af the corporate office because the way they are behaving like a used car sales lot is appalling. I refuse to pay a penny more than the agreed upon price that is on all my order receipts I was given when I placed the order on 2/21. They have flat out lied twice now about why the cost is changing. Avoid at all cost, even if you've had spectacular experience there in the past. I would much rather have them refund my insurance company the money that was wired to them for the replacement and take my business elsewhere and be treated as a valued customer.

I explained exactly what I was looking for (even showed a Tiffany & Co. reference), and was immediately told customization was the only option... with no pricing guidance, no range, no transparency. That's a miss. When I did find a band in-store that worked, I moved forward--still without a clear idea of cost. After a long back-and-forth with a manufacturer, the quote came back at over $1,500 more than the comparable Tiffany piece. Pause. I also had to remind them about their own bridal promotion while actively making a purchase. That shouldn't be on the customer. To salvage the visit, I added earrings and dropped off jewelry for repair (which, to be clear, the smith work was excellent). But the buying experience? Still off. And here's where it really mattered: I later found my original ring through my Tiffany rep and called to cancel the order. Thankfully, I caught it in time--because buried in the fine print is that custom orders are non-cancelable. Not only was I told that the ring I purchased could not be returned but diamond cellar refused to even help or suggest any ideas for ways to sell it on consignment. And they refused to sell their ring on consignment because it was made of lab grown diamonds. Diamond cellar sells lab grown diamonds and they claim there is an after market for. Just like if you purchase a car, it loses some of its value after you drive off the lot, but in this case imagine that the ring we purchased has a zero value the minute we purchased. They surely know how profusely apologize for offering "nothing we can do" but they clearly don't stand behind the product they sell. They seem more than happy to leave their customers without any help or options as we are sent on our way with a, "sorry, there is nothing we can do." I asked for some escalation to management but its been over a month and no call or contact made by staff.
