RODENTS and RODENT FECES…read more I rented a unit from Avon Self Storage for more than 10 years while I was living abroad. When I returned in November, 2016, I discovered RODENT FECES in nearly all of my personal effects (sofa, furniture, clothing, etc.). The owner will no doubt suggest that this was unique to my unit, but I had the opportunity to inspect other units at the same location and my unit is by no means an exception! To the best of my knowledge, there is NO perimeter rodent control and NO rodent traps or poison in the buildings. Most professional storage facilities use either or both methods to ensure the protection of their clients' property. The only solution the owner offered was to set traps inside my unit in the future if I notified him of a rodent issue. That's a bit odd - what is the benefit of setting traps in a storage unit once rodents have already infested it? Thousands of dollars of furniture and personal effects now need to be replaced or professionally cleaned. The only compensation the owner provided was 1 month's rent deducted from my final bill. That's a bit cheeky. He is well aware that he has a rodent infestation problem, the large sum of money I have paid him over 10 years and the damage that was done due to the rodent infestation. My suggestion - find a rental unit at a facility that either has active rodent control (perimeter and in each building) or a facility that is entirely sealed in a multi-story building. These facilities may charge more, but at least you have the peace of mind that your property will not be contaminated with rodent feces.

I made it clear that I had a lot of large, heavy furniture and I also told them the sizes of the two storage units that I wanted emptied and brought to my new house. I specifically asked if it would all fit and if they would make multiple trips. I was quoted a price for six hours including tax. They did bring most of the large, heavy stuff but took NONE of the boxes. Now I am left to empty half of a 10x25 unit in MANY trips in my car. Not only that, but one of the movers spent a lot of time trying to get out a splinter (using tweezers that I offered) and using the bathroom and the other guy stood around waiting for him. This caused me to be charged for an extra hour. I'm grateful for what they did, but it wasn't as much as I was expecting. I'm older and on a limited budget so I went with the lower priced option because she said they would handle it, but they didn't and now my arthritic knees and back are paying for it.

Something the app doesn't tell you when booking a reservation is that if you try to check in more than 15 minutes after your reservation time that it flat out won't work. The webmaster and Haul corporate should make that more clear. That is not the fault of the store. I easily located the vehicle I wanted online and reserved. I did not know about the 15 minute cutoff (which was later explained by the very patient manager, Will. He assisted me quickly despite me coming in with serious Karen energy and remained polite and informative the entire time. He also adjusted my time due to the delay so I could stay within my allotted reservation range. Someone else mentioned the trucks being dirty. As I pulled in to return my vehicle, the staff was hard at work cleaning out a box truck. They immediately pulled my van up to begin cleaning it too. The other employees that I encountered during my return were all upbeat and friendly. Not related to my experience with this location, but I truly loathe the per mile charges. It forced me to rethink my route so I could keep the miles to a minimum since I was using it for a non-profit and did not want to rack up the bill. I understand that the marketing is only $20 per day, but I would rather an hourly or tiered pricing system that did not make me reworking my route to keep the cost down.
