    Absolute garbage facility. Rent was raised twice in a few short months for no reason…read more Moved out and forgot to leave keys since i hired a mover. Scheduled the move out 2 weeks in advance. Immediately called to let the property manager know i forgot the keys. i was told by their property manager (whose name i will leave private) that as long as they see my unique code used on the call box and that my unit is empty, they'll move me out and not to worry about returning the keys. I even offered to bring back the keys and was told it's not necessary. I am now being hounded by public storage to pay not only a month of rent AFTER i moved out, they're stacking monthly late fees on top of it since i didn't return the keys. They clearly didn't do a check out inspection when i left, or they would have called me and told me i needed to return the keys. Their new office "manager" is extremely rude and kept telling me she's new and she's just the messenger. Instead of helping me resolve my issue she sent my bill to collections. . She kept telling me the worker gave me the wrong information and i do indeed owe them this money. This is outrageous because they're letting me know almost 2 months later that i do owe them, even though THEIR employee misinformed me. Yes i understand this is on my contract, but that's why i CALLED TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER who assured me it was not an issue. It is not my fault in any way that your manager misinformed me, i would have brought the keys back that day. I spoke to the collections office and told her what happened, she said she does not feel that this is fair and she will take notes. Since then, i am not getting CONSTANT texts from public storage asking me to pay my balance. If they already sent me to collections, there's no reason that they continue to harass me instead of having the collections agency take care of it. Why would i ask a manager something, be told to disregard it, and then be charged and sent to collections? Absolutely disgraceful experience and I will never use public storage again. They are dishonest thieves.

Very unprofessional and weird , if you didn't want the business you shouldn't have reached out in the first place.

    After using this storage unit on two separate occasions over the last 3 years or so.. I've seen a…read moredrastic downward spiral in customer service and overall good business practices. On our first experience with renting a storage, we were met by the nicest older gentleman. He informed us of the policies and hours, which I must say are quite limited on the weekends.. but it was all about location/price. I think they close at 2pm on Sundays. At one point, our key broke off inside the lock and the same older gentlemen helped us remove the key and made sure we secured our storage with no additional charge. They also had another lady working, she was frequently riding on a golf cart.. Very nice too! She once let us come in with an entire truck full of stuff right at closing time with no hesitation. I wish I could say the same of the most recent experience there. At the end of 2014, we re-rented a storage and when arriving found a middle aged gentleman training with the older gentlemen. He informed us he wouldn't be working there anymore but this middle aged guy would be the new manager. Cool. About 2 months into our rental, I came to drop off some items. To my surprise.. I found the roof being updated. Also cool. But to my horror.. I found TONS of asphalt and wood pieces on my items inside the storage. Not to mention the nail puncture my tire suffered.. Not cool. I understand updates need to be made and I like the fact that my items would be stored securely from the elements. What I don't like is not being informed at all. A simple letter/postcard letting the tenants know of the work. THEN I could've moved/covered my items. The most recent issue being their attempt to rip the owner of the property off. I pay my bill every month by credit card (really debit with visa logo). I lost the key on my last trip to remove items from the unit and went to the office to find the wife of the middle aged gentleman. Explaining the situation, she offered to cut the lock for $25. I tried to reason with her to cut the lock for free.. no luck. She looked at her computer screen and says, "OK, that will be $25 CASH". (emphasizing the "cash") I told her I only had card and she said the system only accepted cash.. I inquire why I'm able to always pay my rent by card and then she started to backstep. She calls the middle age guy in and they "OOo and AHh" at the computer for about 30 seconds and finally "figure out" how to take the payment by card. Shady. I do not recommend this storage unit with the current management. The old peeps really cared about the place.. These people are just looking to make some extra bucks.

My unit was broken into and items were stolen, and Smart Stop did less than the bare minimum to help. While Karen and Kelly at the front desk were very friendly and helpful and I'd give them 5 stars, the company does not value security or protecting your belongings. There are no hallway cameras, so there was no video evidence of the break-in, so no way of tracking lost items down. When I reached out to process a claim for losses, the entire process was granular and frustrating - they wouldn't lift a finger until I filed a police report - something that would be a waste of time with no evidence to provide. I mentioned this and their claims specialist Terri told me "well, miracles happen." I don't want a miracle, I want Smart Stop to take security seriously. After submitting a detailed report I waited 6 weeks for a claims check to arrive for even less than the value of my items. I appraise items professionally and sent a very modest valuing for my stolen possessions, and when I was asked why the check amount was less than indicated on the paperwork I provided, I received a one-sentence reply: "Items are depreciated." When I responded indicating that the prices I gave were accurate for age and condition, I received no reply. By the way, all of this was after the monthly cost of our unit went up considerably to nearly $200 a month. Smart Stop clearly does not care to do even an adequate job in the security department, the space is dingy and falling apart, and the facility *does not* feel safe to be alone in after dark. I terminated my contract and moved to All Storage and the quality difference top to bottom is night and day, and so far it's cheaper too. Don't waste your time with Smart Stop - this company seems to be either unaware of or resentful of the responsibilities they signed up for.

Not only did the manager not come down from the apartment to help me get out, she yelled at me and claimed I verbally assaulted her after I backed out through the semi-open exit gate. Why can't they just fix the exit gate and not force customers to back up/ u-turn to leave out the entrance? The homeless are helping themselves to the air conditioning inside the hallways during the day- it's not cool. I also dropped my phone during this incident and somebody happens to swoop it up and walk off with it. Not a great experience here. Go to U-Haul instead!
