Public Storage at the Marshland location had availability for about $50 per month. In the past 3ish years, they have raised the price by at least $10, each year. When we picked up our things from our unit today, we were highly surprised to find all of our things had molded and rusted and were completely ruined. The entire unit itself was moldy and the whole floor of the unit was soaking wet, with the exception of one very small spot in the very center of the back. (Mind you, today is a beautiful, sunny day, no rain in several days, and the floor was completely wet.) When we rented the unit we were forced to purchase a special lock at an additional cost because the employees access, check on, and air out the units on a monthly basis. That they even spray for pests/ rodents. None of which was clearly ever done, as there were also findings of rodent droppings and bugs. When we brought that up, they said they didn't know where we heard that because they don't do that. We paid even more money for the insurance.... However, with the economy the way it is, we can't replace half the things we had in this unit for this amount, which was the maximum amount allowed. We shall see how they handle this, as I'm not getting the feeling they care about me as a customer at this point, after speaking with Customer Service about my concerns. Upon strapping our "now trash" down to our trailer, we saw approximately 20 nails and screws, some rusted, some new, in the parking lot in one little area, right where we parked. We picked up what we could, but beware if you're going out there! It's obvious that this place is not well managed or kept up and needs some serious work.

They took all day... 12 hours... And never finished...... plus they lost the most valuable and precious box of my children's artwork and the only reason I didn't take it myself was because I figured that it was only a two minute walk and it was a heavy box. The next day we had to hire another moving company to finish the job. I was just on the phone with the company because was transferred to them when I put in a request for movers to give me estimates. The woman, I was speaking with hung up on me when I told her about this situation.... that alone explains how horrible this company is. If I could give this company, no stars I would, but you have to give some so I gave it one.

I have had THE WORST experience with Storage King USA. Instead of using the self-proclamation of…read morecalling themselves "king" the operative word should probably be JESTERS instead. It's quite unfortunate because it is in a good location and they are one of the few storage places that provide climate controlled units. Additionally, I figured it would be a good way to use the extra space for a larger unit to store my seasonal wardrobe since I would be in the area off and on during the year. The first red flag that I blew aside was the sign in the office warning people about a "certain" type of lock that would be acceptable otherwise they would charge an additional fee in order for you to replace it to the specified round lock they want you to have for it is their "policy." Fortunately, I have used storage units for every school year, so I had a round lock. But it was a little odd that Storage King USA would have that as a policy. A lock is a lock and whatever type of lock the customer has should be their prerogative, at least I would think. The next issue I had with Storage King USA was the fact the security gate was no working. What is the point of having a gate, but it's broken? And another thing was the step up in order to get into the inside climate controlled units was a bit annoying. I mean it seems either the platform would be level to the the ground OR have a small ramp in order to roll things on a cart into the space. Another issue was there weren't any carts in sight. Next was the matter of being a homeowner and having my OWN insurance coverage that covers renter's insurance for storage unit within my policy which I explained that upon the rental agreement. It appeared that they were extremely eager to charge the additional fee until I showed proof. I received at least two email warnings before I left the property to remind me that I needed to get that paperwork to them. It was bizarre. I was told that my policy was set to renew in March which I knew as it usually has to be renewed after one year, but Storage King USA made sure they sent me ANOTHER email to remind me of my upcoming renewal and that I needed to have a copy sent to them. This email in addition to the previous ones was sent in January as a reminder and then more reminders in February. It seemed as if they were chomping at the bit to charge additional fees. Again, another red flag. The next to the last straw for me was yet another email to now inform me that I would be assessed the additional fee because I did not send a copy of my homeowners renewal paperwork. This was ridiculous because I renewed my policy on February 19, 2023 and I sent a copy of the paid receipt to Storage King USA. Unfortunately, this was not good enough for Storage King USA because I had failed to send them the entire policy once again even though the paperwork and the language of the paperwork were the same. Now my patience with this company was growing thin. I spoke to Paulinna, the manager, via email to discuss the situation; however, it was of no use. She stood on "the policy" rather than common sense. And her demeanor of standing on the policy was less than customer service appropriate for a manager for I found her a bit snarky. The final last straw for me was the letter I received indicating that the rent for the space I had was going up another $30 dollars within the next two months. It was at this time that I finally had enough of this foolishness and I was out of there! Fortunately, I found another place across town that is also locally owned which was one of the reasons I selected this place, but if they cannot appreciate business here there will always be other options where I can and will go!

My gf arrived to help me load the few items, I was transporting onto my trailer. She mentioned jokingly something about the facility closing at 10 pm and hoped they'd let us out the gate. Ladies and gents, we were locked in the facility for over an hour. The woman who owns it/lives above the office, refused to help is as this stores policy is not to interact with customers after business hours. We had to call 911 who sent a Jasper deputy or PD to let us out. The kicker is that the manager who lives upstairs was on the phone with the officer to let us out and gave him the code to do it instead of coming down stairs and doing it her lazy self!! The officer informed is that this was the first time he had come out but had heard it has happened before more than once. The legal out they give themselves is that the pedestrian gate was open... meaning we were free to escape if we left our things and vehicles there. Worst of all the manager wrote my gf (the property owner) a scathing email the next day threatening her with trespassing and distributing the peace. She also threatened to evict her if there was another "incident" mind you I was talking loudly about how horrible a business it to hold their patrons hostage against their will, all the while she was peering out the window above us... very "it puts the lotion on its skin..."
