I always loved shopping at a stop & shop and was willing to pay the higher prices to avoid the craziness of Market Basket. And I love "scan it"! However, I have noticed the quality and quantity of the produce has gone way down over the past year in the Reading store. What's going on??? I am seriously thinking of making the switch. Every one loves how it's not over crowded but guess why this place has the most incompetent staff and only one or two registers are open. the prices are high and food is usually not very good especially when it comes to the produce the only reason to ever shop here is if you something late at night otherwise just go to market basket so much better in almost every way possible read more

I don't normally leave bad reviews however this was the worst stop & shop that I have ever shopped at - and NEVER will again. Not only are their prices absolutely disgusting compared to other stores (which I knew before going in, but I only needed a couple of items). However, I go to pay and of course you are forced to do self check out. I had an item not scan correctly and called for help and basically the employee accused me of not ringing something in which was completely absurd and ridiculous! I asked him for help and he was trying to tell me that I didn't ring something in on purpose! Maybe they should open some aisles and hire some people that can actually work there instead of machines that clearly don't work correctly and Rude employees that don't actually want to help. I will never go back to Reading Massachusetts Stop & Shop ever again - it's no wonder there were no cars in the parking lot there. Highly deceptive practices. Buyer beware. They list items on sales, but do not honor them. I specifically went on Easter weekend for their sale on Friendly's ice cream and various other items. They make no mention of needing a members card, coupon, etc. I was charged full price. I do NOT recommend going here. Do yourself a favor, and hop on over to Market Basket. read more

The staffs are always friendly. I enjoy visiting this location because ò the fresh sea food that they have.

Compared to MB next door the parking lot is spacious and has plenty of open spots, and the store is never overcrowded. They also have self-checkout. Shopping here is a low stress experience. The meat and produce departments are also superior to MB. The only things they lack are made-to-order subs and sushi. It may be slightly more expensive, but I choose Stop & Shop for higher quality and lower stress. read more

This is the only grocery store in the north shore where I can find everything I need including hard to find items and don't feel totally crowded or "tailgated" by tightly wound new englanders (like the melrose Whole Foods or any Market Basket -- which are both basically contact sports). You can take some time to poke around here. I drive a little extra to shop here and it is completely worthwhile. It's a much calmer experience than any other in the area -- food shopping shouldn't be stressful. They're doing a great job. I do hope they will get pasture raised eggs soon. That's the only item I still have to suffer through Whole Foods to get. Save me Stop And Shop! read more

They have a very slow deli, but have hired more staff so maybe it will improve I love the stone fire flatbread pizza but they so rarely have it properly stocked, they only stock the naan pockets not the various sizes of pizza. I mentioned it to the bakery personnel but no improvement. read more

The whole Demoulas/Market Basket drama currently playing out this past couple of weeks led me to this Stop and Shop for my weekly shop this past Thursday. Now I know why I never come in this store. The prices are ridiculous. Here are a couple of examples... Red Bull (4 pack) Market Basket=$5.99 S&S=$7.99 Lean Cuisine Frozen dinners Market Basket=$2.19/EA S&S=$3.25/EA Regardless of the obvious price disparities, the staff in this store seemed to be unhappy and genuinely depressed. I had to ask a couple of associates where to find items, and I was met with frowns and borderline hostility that I was actually bothering them with my questions. I toured the entire store for my weekly shop and was shocked to actually discover that despite the size of the store, they simply did not have the variety of choices that MB offers right next door. I counted 2 aisles dedicated to toys/gifts/party supplies, etc...huh? This is a grocery store, not Walmart. Speaking of Walmart, until the whole MB fiasco settles down, that will be my next stop for groceries. Sorry...Stop and Shop, you're fired. read more

Nothing cheap, nothing deep; this is your typical Stop and Shop. They have sales on fruits and whatever you need to here and there if you need it. Just check the online circular for whatever you need before you go. Overall, the store is very neat and organized so there is that. The self checkouts are on the left side of the storefront just as a note for those who can't be bothered to wait in line for a cashier. Bring your shopping bag/tote as well because paper bags are the only things used for groceries at this point. read more

I like the selection of seafood at this location. When most places are not offering fresh fish cakes or fresh crabcakes anymore, this location has fresh and delicious codcakes. I also recommend the littleneck clams and the fresh scallops. This location has a very good seafood selection for a grocery store. read more

i am writing primarily about the salad bar and not the store, though I will save that for another time. I work locally and like to have a salad at lunchtime. The only place offering a salad bar in this vicinity is Stop and Shop in Reading. For many months I chose to go without lunch because their salad bar was so poor. Lately I notice the romaine lettuce actually looks fresh. along with the sliced red peppers. That is about where it ends. The black olives look so old they are turning grayish white. The carrots have a white coating on them. The grape tomatoes are overripe and the the tuna salad looks old. It would be great if these items were refreshed every other day to keep things fresh. People want to eat healthy but with these choices it would be better to stop at McDonald's. read more

After visiting the brand new pizza place across the street, I needed to pick up some groceries. I planned on stopping somewhere closer to home, since I was buying a few frozen products, but ended up stopping at this Stop&Shop as it was convenient and resulted in making one less highway exit, which would be out of the way. This location is on Walkers Brook Drive in Reading, exit 39 off I-95, very close to Jordan's and to the "Crossing at Walkers Brook". The store has a large parking lot, scanner guns, self checkout, and Redbox. What this store doesn't have is a renovation, which is desperately needs! This location is in the 1990's in terms of style. The aisles, signs, and interior all seem old, and do not have the charm of the newer Stop&Shop locations. Definitely a store Stop&Shop should renovate ASAP! Anyway, good food, nothing expired, good prices, and friendly staff. Overall, a good stop for some groceries. 4 stars. read more

At the salad bar, an employee always gets in my way,tells me what to do,asks me if I need help when they know I do not, calls me a slob once and an aaa hole another time, gives me dirty looks, follows me around fixing the buckets I use. So far I have ignored her. I have never reacted to this absurd behavior. I believe a large portion of their staff is challenged. Another employee rolled a cart directly at me as I was walking in and laughed as I dodged it. I can't make this stuff up. Should I record them and sue? read more

Never again - it is a Saturday and you only have two cashier lines open with huge lines. Go to market basket next door you won't have these issues. To top it off when picking up my deli order it was incomplete and I had to wait in line to get the rest of my order. read more

It's a little more expensive than the Market Basket next door but it's more spacious, cleaner and they always have what I'm looking for.

Used to work here years ago and know it well. It's a great grocery store that feels spacious, clean and well organized. Staff is usually around to help if need be and you can even gain rewards points to use on gas at participating stations. I'm not sure if this still is running, but did when I worked there. Over time, you can save quite a bunch on gas! Overall, it's a solid place to get all your food necessities! read more

The deli is the most unorganized deli I have ever been to. Doesn't matter that 10 people are waiting, they continue to fill orders for people who use the kiosk. Isn't the point of the kiosk is you shop while they're filling your order? Those orders should be filled AFTER waiting customers. It's the same every week. How about some additional help? But I'm the real fool. I keep coming back expecting a different outcome. read more

This review is for the bake shop's customer service. The woman who took my custom cake order was extremely helpful, even to the point of walking with me to the florist department to make sure the balloons and the cake decorations coordinated. My son loved his 3rd birthday cake and the guests said it tasted good (I wanted to have some but couldn't because of a dietary restriction). The price was affordable and they were accommodating when I called a day ahead to ask to change the size of the cake because of a guest count change. read more

The seafood counter had butterfish on sale. I asked the clerk how it was cooked. His response was " I don't know, my boss didn't tell me." I asked to speak to the boss and was told that he went home early afternoon. Went to check out with the scanner I had used through out the store. Found that scanner system was down at the registers. Clerk was having to manually re-ring orders. i asked why they had not put a sign at the door advising customers not to use the scanners. Answer was, I didn't think of that.
