My site (#97 left) and my friends' site (right).
    Rick R.

I booked site #97 over Memorial Day Weekend and into Tuesday. My friends booked a site next to me and some other friends were down in the tent area along the creek. This campground has everything myself and my friends were looking for ... which is very simple: Some shade, water nearby, 30-amp & water supply (Though we also had sewer), level sites, and nice people. None of us have kids and are in our 20's and 30's. The RV sites we had backed up to a 45-degree embankment on the other side of which is the pond. This was no problem, though it would have been nice to have a view of the pond. Some sites closer to the main entrance do have pond views from your RV. Really the only thing I disliked was the area behind my RV site, and others along the pond, are not "your" space. This means if you feel like fishing directly behind your site you may not be able to do that as random people could be hanging out, fishing, doing whatever. All other campgrounds I've visited that have a lake, pond, or stream directly at the site prohibit other people from walking back there. It's basically your private site that allows you access to the water. That was not the case here, so just be aware if that is something to which you are accustomed. The proximity of this campground to Pine Creek Gorge (The PA Grand Canyon) is a bonus. They're not right next to it, but are only a 10-20 minute drive, depending on where in the Gorge you're looking to visit. We took a drive out to the parking area at Darling Run and rode our bikes all the way to Blackwell, via the rail trail. My friends rode back to their truck and I decided to continue my ride back to Stony Fork Creek. This is doable, though there is a creek crossing to access Stony Fork Creek Road from Route 414. Overall, it makes for a very nice 24-ish mile ride. The campground itself is situated in a little valley with ridges on each side. It makes for some beautiful scenery and photography. The stars at night viewed from the campground are stellar! Limited light pollution other than campfires and one or two far away towns. Nature abounds in the campsite, especially at night where the sounds of frogs and distant packs of coyotes can be heard. A Verizon WiFi Note: According to Verizon's map, there is no signal at the campground. 95% of the time we had no service on Verizon. If you absolutely need service for working remotely, this may be a problem. Otherwise, enjoy your time away from the outside world. Definitely worth the experience and I highly recommend Stony Fork Creek Campground.

This campground is cold and sterile. Nothing warm and friendly. No internet. No wifi. No cell service. No cable. No recommendation here.

The Pine Creek Rail Trail runs through the base of the gorge itself, which can be accessed by driving partway down to the parking areas and then hiking or biking in. Or you could opt to take some challenging hikes down the sides of the canyon to the bottom from one of the trailheads at the state parks located on the east (Leonard Harrison) or west (Colton Point) rims. Leonard Harrison State Park offers more amenities, with a visitor's center, and souvenirs and snacks during the busy season, while Colton Point is a bit more basic with picnic tables and overlooks. There is also a covered wagon tour available through Ole Covered Wagon Tours that provide another way to enjoy the base of the canyon, along with a knowledgeable tour guide who can provide information on the history, geology, and nature in the area. If you're unfamiliar with the area, be aware that rattlesnakes and black bears live here.

Great hiking trails great views and overall a nice place to visit. The town nearby is also a great place to shop and grab something to eat. Be sure to plot everything by GPS there is minimal wireless Anal in the area probably because of how this place aligned with the Earth's magnetic field, regardless don't get lost and try not fall off. I have this place 3 Ninja stars because it was nothing close to Grand Canyon. This gorge is just that, a gorge and nothing near as close to a grand canyon.

The sites are clean and ready to go when you arrive. Some of them are on the smaller side but if you adjust your parking you can make it work. You even have a beautiful view of the pond even from across the campsite! My friends booked the Rustic Cabins and had no complaints! They were so cute! The beach was clean and so much fun for our almost 2 year old son. Loved the weekend activities too! We made tie dye t-shirts! My son loved their playground too! One of the best parts was that at check-out I expressed that our picnic table was breaking and the maintenance guy was on it before we finished dumping. Incredible customer service, for the next campers! Cannot wait to come back.

With a friendly welcome, swimming beach, paddle boat rentals, along with catch 'n release fishing, there is something for everyone. Here you will find clean restrooms, a safe environment for children to play as everyone heeded the 5 mph speed, a store with camping items, laundry, small restaurant and a very large dog run. The 7-mile drive from the highway was well worth the drive. There are many 'seasonals' who summer here from the surrounding communities and we found everyone very welcoming. We camped here in a 30' Airstream trailer and would definitely return.
