Lots of chipmunks at our campsite!
    Jessica B.

We spent a couple nights here at Ives Run and had a lovely time. The campsites don't offer a ton of privacy and they're a little close to each other, but you can't beat having your campsite directly on Lake Tioga. We stayed at site 147, and I definitely recommend it. It has a nice flat space for your tent (I don't think more than one tent would fit at this site), and your own personal entrance to the lake. We were able to sit right on the water and take in a breathtakingly beautiful sunset in addition to being able to swim in the beautiful water. There's plenty of hiking nearby, and you can kayak, paddle board, and really do anything else on the lake. It's a bit of a drive from the Long Island/NYC area (4 1/2 - 5 hours away), but it was worth it for a few nights away. I will warn you--no showers and pit toilets. I think that speaks for itself.

I just don't like being in a sleeping bag on the ground, not having a bathroom, and well camping. I was recently invited to go glamping. Glamping is an elevated camping experience - think glamorous camping. I was intrigued to say the least and decided to head on out to Firelight Camps in Ithaca, NY to try it out. I actually did sleep in a tent as you can see. Although it was the inside of the tent that elevated my experience. While it was a real tent I had a wooden floor and a real bed! The bed was so comfortable too. I didn't want to get up in the morning. I loved hearing the sounds of nature outside. There was no electricity, but there were lanterns you could use in the tent. The lanterns even had a USB plug in to charge your phone. The campgrounds were beautiful! There was a fire pit and larger tent to eat meals in. They also had bathrooms to shower in. They weren't in the tents, but just a short walk from them. We had a fabulous time chatting and just hanging out in the common area. Of course what camping experience is complete with out s'mores? When the fire pit was lit the s'mores came out. These were an elevated experience as well. They were the most delicious s'mores I've ever tasted - homemade marshmallows and graham crackers!

Due to the heat advisory, we were able to seamlessly transfer our reservation for 2 of the 3 days to the hotel on site (LaTourelle), while still being able to enjoy all the camp's amenities. In the check in tent there are snacks and drinks for sale, plus breakfast each morning, nightly fire pits for making s'mores, clean communal bathrooms and private showers, each tent has all your bedding, towels and a back balcony for relaxing. On Tuesday evenings they host music and a pizza truck (which was cancelled due to the heat when we were there). There's a trail leading to Buttermilk Falls on site. Lots to do with kids in the area - swimming in Treman Park and the Sciencenter were some favorites.

They even provided gas grills and and all the utensils you would need. They really thought of everything to make you stay easy and fun. They were so friendly and easy to talk to. I feel like I knew them for years. The tents are well spaced and you have plenty of privacy. They are beautifully decorated and the bed was fabulous. I loved falling to sleep to the sounds of frogs singing every evening. The location is near many attractions such as wineries, lakes and a water park only a short 15- 30 minutes away. We are already making plans to return next summer and I can't wait. If you want to relax in nature without all the hassles of camping, than this is the perfect place for you.

However, there is not much shade and the biggest downfall, I would say, is that the restaurant on site is closed, and there is no camp store. There is a beer distributor on the property, but that's it. It would be nice to have a camp store like most campgrounds, and having the restaurant open would be a huge plus since there really isn't anything nearby. The hike to the falls is nice, and they are very pretty. If you like being in the middle of basically nowhere, this is a great little find. We did enjoy our time there, but there are some things that would make it a whole lot better.

The campground bathrooms are clean and Showers are nice. There's a downhill hiking trail down to the Falls that are very nice. And if you if you're into Sasquatch, you will love this place.
