Last week we went to Stoney's and the experience was... frustrating from the start. We waited way too long before anyone even acknowledged us. When I finally flagged someone down, she said, "Sometimes it's hard to see over the booths." Mind you--we are not short. Both of our heads were clearly visible the entire time. My friend even went to the bar to get our waitress, who absolutely had full sight of us. Eventually Stacie, comes over and takes our drink and oyster order. It's Thursday, so oysters are $0.90 (used to be $0.70, but okay). The oysters were good--we went through two dozen with no issue. But then it was right back to the same problem. Empty glasses. No check-in. No presence. We had to flag Stacie down again to order our entrée--not because she was busy, but because she was standing at the next table having a full conversation like she couldn't see us sitting there waiting. And here's the part that really needs to be fixed-- If you have items on the menu that are no longer available, that should be communicated up front. Not after someone has spent 15-20 minutes reviewing the menu and deciding what they want. Overall: good oysters, but the service completely took away from the experience. This place is fantastic! I've been going here maybe every 2 months, for about 3 years now. One of the staff members and her significant other has recently taken it over and you can absolutely tell the difference in the food. The food has always been very good, but now it has been great!! On my way to a client's house I saw this spot and decided to try it. It was a really chill "Cheers" kind of vibe. Alot of older ppl at the bar. The bartender was nit that welcoming in the beginning but she eventually came around. I ordered the special seafood basket with 2 crab balls, 4 fried shrimp, coleslaw and fries. It was average especially for $25. I was only looking for a quick bite anyway so it did the job. Very small portion of food I must say but I do understand prices are crazy right now. Not sure what happened. I came to write a review and it seems what I had to say was written by someone else not too long ago. there was almost a sudden overnight change in almost everything. The food was garbage, cold crabcake, soup was...... portion size of my fries were small and the coleslaw was off. Not tasting bad but expired. would not even call it cream of crab it tasted like water and a weird grainy taste? Service has always been so-so but the food was great, now the food is just, Terrible. Something must've happened in the kitchen. I came back once again because I've been a patron for a good while and because maybe it was just an off day(not our first here but the last few months it's been great) but it's seems to be the standard now, everything from the food, to atmosphere, horrendous. I was invited her for my cousin's birthday dinner. I was skeptical considering the reviews, but figured I'd keep my order super simple to avoid disappointment. * * SNEAKY DRAGON - Super duper sweet, even for me...and I have a major sweet tooth. Even the melted ice didn't help. BACON MOZZARELLA CHICKEN SANDWICH w/CAESAR SALAD (instead of French fries... look at me, being all healthy and what-not!) - The sandwich was just OK. The salad was good, just waaaay too much dressing (I forgot to ask for dressing on the side.) Would order again. OLD BAY WINGS - My cousin shared a couple of wings. Very lightly seasoned, but good. Would order again. We were part of a large party and were seated in a private area away from the other diners in the restaurant. The service was friendly and given with a smile. I feel really badly about making this review because I use to love this place and ate here often when I lived in Maryland. However, I was disgusted with the fact that they charged me $42 for a very small crab cake sandwich with a little tiny serving of coleslaw. Absolute worst restaurant experience ever. The cream of crab soup was brown in color and tasted of vinegar. It was returned. The crab cakes were undercooked, cold and doughy inside. The coleslaw had expired. Absolutely bad to the taste. My wife and I decided that there was too many things wrong to spend our money on unsatisfactory, subpar food. We explained to our waitress why we were unsatisfied. We asked to pay for or dinks and not pay for the food and leave. Her snappy, unprofessional answer was "Go for it". I asked for the check for the drinks. She replied that we didn't have to pay for them. We left the restaurant with two other black people who had carryout bags. Then comes the Manager walking behind me questioning if i had paid for the food in the bags. There was not a single bag in my hand nor my wife's hand. The conversation was clairified by me right away. There was no communication between the waitress and the Manager/Owner Kris Curtis. While we sat in our car Kris Curtis and a friend comes out of the restaurant the friend circled our car to take a picture of my Tag. I immediately called the local Police. We went inside. The Manager we belligerent We had to move the conversation outside in the cold as not to disturb other patrons. I am filing a formal report with the State of MD Police Department. The next communication with Kris Curtis will be from my Attorney. Came here while visiting family over the Thanksgiving holiday and I was in search of crab legs. The place is in a busy strip mall and the decor is dark and outdated, but the bar area seemed to be filled with regulars having a good time and it was a large place with ample seating. We were seated quickly and the service was great. To start off, We had a mixed drink that was very tasty (the sneaky dragon) and the fried rockfish bites which we enjoyed. The seafood platter was delicious! Hot and fresh. The crab ball was so good, loved the shrimp, too. But the Old Bay fries were amazinggggg I could have eaten a million of them. The only thing on the platter that we didn't like as much was the fried scallop. The breading fell off because it was wet and it was very chewy/rubbery. I went to Stoney's three time in the week I was visiting Prince Frederick. The first time, I waited by the sign that said "wait for seating" for 10 minute's without anyone showing up to seat me, so I ate elsewhere. I went another day and figured out you need to wait where the bar staff can see you. Seating was quick and easy. The crab cakes were excellent and I enjoyed it twice with one day in between. First red flag was how dead the place was for a Saturday night. Crab came out partially cold, partially warm. No butter. Fried shrimp, no cocktail sauce. Broiled seafood, no butter, no cocktail sauce, no tartar sauce. Requesting condiments seemed as though we were bothering our server. Fish was well done, tough and had a horrible taste to it. I first became familiar with Stoneys many years ago when they were originally located in Fox Run Shopping center and a 2nd location at Broomes Island and remembered those locations and the food there fondly. Both of those locations closed over the years and the new location at Costley Way opened. I had not been to this location ever, or eaten at Stoneys in years when my sister suggested it for dinner last night. Remembering my previous experiences at the previous locations I happily agreed, this was a mistake. I don't know what happened over the years, but the food which was once fabulous was not very good. It's a nice location, nice ambience and our server was attentive and friendly. At the end of the day those things are nice but when you're dining out, it's ultimately about the food, which was wanting in this experience. I opened with a stuffed mushroom appetizer. On the menu it stated mushrooms stuffed with crab imperial. When it arrived at the table it had some kind of black sauce drizzled on the top in the manner that you see foo foo restaurants employ that feel a need to take food and make it into some kind of "art". Whatever it was, it wasn't in the description on the menu and ruined what would have been a tasty appetizer, just ruined it. Both my sister and myself then ordered the crab cake dinner. My selection of this was based upon my memory of crab cakes eaten at previous Stoneys locations of the past as their crab cakes were always great. Well, "were" seems to be the operative word. The crab cakes were dry, nasty and a complete loss as compared to what they were in the past visits to the other Stoneys locations. 1 appetizer, 2 dinners, a glass of wine and a soda was $180 w/tip. I don't mind paying a bill of this magnitude for a dinner for two, if the food is good, sadly it was not only not good, but terrible. I don't know if this bad meal was an aberration or if something has changed in the ownership or management of Stoneys, but the food was terrible, when it used to be great. I hate leaving poor reviews, but to pay $70 for 2 entrees and an appetizer this low in quality both frustrates my pockets and dissatisfies my stomach. The one positive is that the stuffed mushrooms tasted fine, however, for $15 I would expect more than 4 tiny mushrooms. Also, the liquid from these things leaked all into the bag and onto the other boxes. Next, we had the beer battered cod and fries. Ugh, talk about a disappointment. The portions were fine, but the fries were so undercooked and soggy. Some with no seasoning at all, and others fully coated in Old Bay. There was a wet texture between the breading and the fish so it slid around and broke apart. Not pleasant. The coleslaw was fine, but the tartar sauce just tasted like plain mayonnaise. Last, we had the ribeye. Same soggy fries, ugly looking steak. Definitely was cooked more than medium. Husband said it tasted average. Wanted a salad, but they were out of Caesar dressing. So, we went with the green beans because the person taking our order said they were really good, however, they were really bland. Wouldn't recommend or return. Last dinner in Prince Frederick, I finally managed to get some seafood! I was wary of the one star rating, but that was just one review. The "moved" location was well reviewed, so I figured it was just an anomaly. Greeted at the door by the hostess/bartender/waitress, she brought me to a table and left me to look over the menu. When she returned, I inquired about beers available and had to settle for a Sam Adams seasonal. She also provided the password for their free wifi. They really need to list what they have on a card! Seafood. I ordered the two crabcakes dinner with fries and cole slaw. I have no way of knowing if they were stuffed with crab or with krab (pollock or whitefish faked as crab), but they were tasty and there was more seafood stuffed in there than there was filler. Tasty. The fries were done nicely and the cole slaw was okay with a small pinch of fresh ground pepper. Maybe a little expensive at $30, but this is fresh (I assume) seafood and that's going to be more than burgers or a burrito. So... good service, comfortable seating, good food, reasonable price. read more

Where to start. If it's 4:00 pm on a Saturday , and a restaurant is empty , it should be a sign to keep going and find somewhere else . We were one of 4 tables in the whole place. What we ordered .... $15 crab dip, but no crab meat in sight . If I were to guess the ingredients I'd say it's made with a tub of cream cheese , and an entire case of onions. 6 water crackers and a loaf of French bread ( the bread was delicious ) My wife got the banging shrimp , my child got the chicken fingers , and I got a "fried shrimp " basket . A "seafood house " should be ashamed to serve pre-frozen shrimp . But not Stoneys! Needless to say we didn't expect the culinary skill of the Gorton's fisherman to leave his post from inside the Safeway frozen food section to cook for our visit at Stoney's , but he did ! We left after 20 minutes and as we were leaving, the young blonde girl behind the bar recognized we were leaving and never ascertained why. This restaurant has changed ownership, and quite the improvement. The original owners served everything on paper plates with the attitude that our food is the star. We stopped going to this southern Maryland chain of restaurants because their food was so salty and definitely overpriced. It was delicious...I had her leftover crab!! . Stace had one drink returned b/c it was nasty!! ($8.50!!!!). She got a pomegranate martini instead and kept the charge of the other drink on the bill. I've come here a few times with my husband and if I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. The food is excellent and the service is fantastic! We had a new waitress who was a tall blonde with tattoos and she was an absolute delight! Aside from being attentive and accommodating, she joked with us, made good conversation, and had an overall positive attitude. Was in the area for a wedding and decided to grab some seafood since we were close to the coast. Food wasn't any good. Gritty scallops, poorly made gigantic crab cakes with gross texture, and a few other sad items. We ate less than half of each of our meals and ended up paying $60. My husband and I just left the Stoney's on Broomes Island and are we ever sorry we went!!! I have not had such TERRIBLE service and food!!! We were seated and had to wait at least 20 minutes before the waitress finally came to take our order. Then it was over 30 minutes before food started arriving. My husband ordered the four stuffed shrimp and I ordered the Albert Platter - four fried shrimp and two small crab balls. My husband got his dish and I was told mine was cooking, so they brought a plate of fries and onion rings. Another 15 minutes later I FINALLY got my dish. Not very impressive!! Pretty disappointed by the whole experience. I grew up in Southern Maryland and Stoney's used to be a staple, but those days are gone. I ordered a crab pretzel, the dip was soupy and the whole thing was overcooked. Then I got a 1/2 pound of steamed shrimp for my kids to split and what I got was 8 large shrimp. I don't know if that is just my fault assuming differently, but I figured it would be a bunch of regular sized shrimp. Also we were literally the only ones in the restaurant (we were there for lunch at 11am) and our server seemed to forget about us a few times. Finally the kicker, our bill was $68 for a crab pretzel, 1/2 pound shrimp, a crab slider meal (which had 3 crab sliders) and 2 fountain sodas. Overpriced and underwhelming. read more
