We enjoyed Easter lunch at Stony River! We started with the deviled eggs appetizer. They were delicious! The best candied bacon pieces I've ever had on top. Then the yolk filling was full of relish and chunky pickles, yum. Next up, four entrees...Cobb Salad takes the top ranking with the perfect portion of dressing, excellent bacon and avocado with perfectly cooked chicken breast. They forgot the egg, I was originally sad, but the salad with its mixed greens was amazing. My son got the bigger cut filet. It was thick! He loves medium rare, but with the height of the filet, he should have done medium to avoid the purple inner center. He got the truffle fries, honestly, awful, no potato, just skinny fried fries...pick another side. The salmon is up next with a pretty aggressive seasoning, a bit spicy. Very well cooked and huge portion, but get fresh cooked if you don't love spice. The Bistro Chicken, again, excellent. Great portion and yummy lemon and caper topping. The problem with the mains are the sides. The sides are the reason for 4 vs 5 stars. The broccoli was fine, but has that raw, earthy flavor versus buttery and or salty, our preference. The server we had was kind and attentive. She deserved 5 stars. She was great! Check them out for the mains, but more research needs to be done on picking the best sides...my guess...upgrade to a side salad or soup! read more

We've lived in the area for awhile now, and for our first time at Stoney River, it was just ok. On a weekday, reservations were super easy to get, honestly you might not even need one if it's the middle of the week. We made one, just in case. The inside is nice but not pretentious feeling for a steakhouse. It looked like there was a lot of seating at the bar open - might try that out if we come back. We were celebrating our anniversary, so that was noted on our little reservation card & our server acknowledged this - but nothing was done to really wow us or make us feel like we were celebrating until the very end of our meal (more on this in a bit). The food was pretty good - we both got some sort of meat. I got the prime rib and I was seriously missing some sort of horseradish sauce. The cut of meat though was very good and not super fatty, so extra points for that. The portions are very generous, so we didn't have room for dessert. After we paid, our server remembered it was our anniversary and offered us champagne.. it was nice, but a total afterthought. I was SO full that I really couldn't drink it. Lastly, the parking. The lot is shared with all of the other businesses in the mall area, so just beware. It might be better to park behind and walk through the path. read more

Stoney River has quickly become one of my husband's and my go-to dinner spots, and we've also brought multiple out-of-town family members here. Every dish we've tried has been delicious, and the service is consistently excellent, whether we're seated at the bar or at a table. If you sit at the bar, you're treated to complimentary spiced popcorn (so good!) and can also ask for their signature rolls, which are almost like dessert -- warm, cinnamon-sugary, and served with whipped honey butter. My favorite dinner orders are the cheeseburger with parmesan fries and the bistro chicken (minus the capers). The cedar plank salmon and Tuscan chicken are also great choices. read more

I always avoided this place when I moved to the area until I realized J. Alexander's from lake cook road is part of the same umbrella and very similar menus!!! Went here with kids for brunch. Great brunch and happy hour specials. Fancy meal and experience that didn't break the bank. The kids loved the lobster roll and the appetizer bread. The service is professional and feels elevated. The decor is a bit old and dark inside but at the same time it's slightly elevated experience that is not rushed and very helpful and good quality. Love the variety in the menu - definitely items that become your favorite that you'd come back to. The salads are amazing! Cappuccino is great. Love this place! read more

Date night dinner with my wife on a Saturday was simply flawless. We were greeted by the pleasant hostess and immediately seated for our reservation. Amelia the waiter was knowledgeable and efficient. Our water and drinks along with the heated sweet rolls and honey infused butter were served up within 5 minutes. Rombaur Chardonnay and Macallan scotch 12 year old. A nice start. The chilled fresh iceberg wedge with bacon, tomato, and blue cheeses dressing was the best I have ever had. Full stopThe 16 pounce prime rib medium rare was thick and cooked perfectly. A little more flavor in the crust would have been nice but that's a nit pick. It was tough, chewy, and overdone (ordered medium rare but accepted the medium I received). I thought the bad cut was a fluke the last time I ordered it about a year ago, but it happened again just a couple weeks ago. They tell me it's because of the quality of beef they can get now. So "steer" clear of the ribeye, if you're looking for a tender, juicy, and flavorful cut of meat here. I hear the meatloaf is good, though. And everything else was really very tasty! read more

Another solid dinner at Stoney River, I had the hanger steak and my wife had the coffee-cured filet. Both were excellent. Had garlic mashed and creamed spinach for sides--not sure the creamed spinach beats Ruth's Chris, but it's close! Good service, Petya was attentive all evening. And their wine bottle prices continue to impress--we did a bottle of Abstract and it's literally half the price of what other higher-end steakhouses would charge. Just saying, when wine is priced well a portion of those savings gets added on to the tip--win for me, win for the server. We don't go out to eat that often but we did end the meal saying to each other, "we need to come here more often". Keep up the good work! read more

This is one of my family's favorite restaurants. I have tried nearly everything on the menu at this point and not one bad meal. I highly recommend the prime rib it's the best on the block! My kids love the steak egg rolls and the whiskey shrimp toast appetizers are outstanding. I lived in France and their French onion soup is the real deal! The house salad with herb vinaigrette is absolutely amazing! And they always have a wonderful selection of fish. My 13-year-old often gets the salmon and licks his plate clean. They also have a fantastic brunch menu on weekends and my son particularly likes the waffles and chicken and I would recommend the ribeye hash! I do have to warn you on the desserts though absolutely amazing especially their homemade Keylime pie. However, they are gigantic potions that will send you into a coma...you have been warned! Had dinner here a couple nights ago, what a disappointment. Wife and I ordered same steaks each mid rare, mine was mid rare, hers was rare....same steaks ordered same temp should not be that hard to do. The au gratin potatoes were not good. The manager tried to correct stuff so at least he tried to do right thing, said would give us dessert on him, we got skillet cookie, also not good as cookie was burned. Got our bill and charged for the dessert that was supposed to be on them, they did take it off the bill. Only good thing was the spinach. Would not return here read more

Our entire experience was exceptional last night. We arrived and we were greeted by head host Isabella and her team. We were given an amazing table near the fireplace. Our server was Josh. He was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the Salmon and it was done perfectly. My husband ordered the ribeye. He loved it. We ordered Carrot-cake to go. It is always delicious. Steen the manager stopped by to check on us and so did a server we had in the past named Crystal. Every time we visit Stony River we are treated amazingly and the food is always perfect. Been patronizing for years. Always pleasant. Went this week, and it will be our last. Service has severely declined since COVID. at about 25% occupancy at dinner. Sat at bar. 2 barteners. Minimal eye contact or engagement. Seemed preoccupied. Had to ask for waters. Fill our own wine glasses. Waited for plates to be pulled. Had to ask for take-home boxes. And then a bag. Food above average but an antiquted nenu. Rancid smell coming from behind bar. No fun and not enjoyable. Over $200 check. For that money I'll go to Perry's or Capital Grille. They do it right. The way they did their loaded bake potato was unique, it was a full pound and cooked perfectly. Old fashion was made well and priced typically for a Chicago suburb. Here's the breakdown of what we got :) Appetizers: crab cakes - only one big cake 8/10, steak rolls 9.5/10, spinach dip was great!! Only recommendation was that it should've been served with crostini instead of tortilla chips 7/10 Entrees: New York strip - delish, coffee filet - very tender, chicken bistro (HUGE) & sooo good, pork chop - fantastic. All their sides are amazing! Dessert - if you come here and you DONT get dessert, you are missing out my friend. The carrot cake is AMAZING and is enough to feed a party of 6-8. If you order this you will definitely have left overs. Their chocolate layer cake is also phenomenal. Service was amazing!! Our server was super nice and timely. My family has been here before and was excited to try it out again. I had never been, but was definitely excited for some steaks. We ordered some appetizers and drinks first. However, it took a while for the appetizers to come out, which should have been the first red flag of the night. The bread was amazing and warm as all the other reviews say, but our crabcake appetizer was small so we had to order another one. The ahi tuna was tasty and a good portion to share. After our appetizers though, our waiter took even longer to take our orders and take away our plates. Once we did place our order, it took about an hour for the food to come out! When our steaks did arrive, two of our entrees were wrong, one was way too salty, and one was cold. We had to pretty much send everything back. It took another 40 minutes for everything to come back out again. Our night was much longer than planned, and the steaks mediocre at best. Our experience was pretty awful, and the food nothing to make up for it. Unfortunately, I will not be recommending this place- I am not a steak expert, but I've had much better steaks and service at Wildfire, Ruth Chris, etc. read more

My wife and I ordered a salad to share Friends ordered an entree to. We had to facilitate rhe split at the table. WHY isn't this done in the kitchen. This isn't the first time and it is extremely annoying. The price point at which this restaurant operates demands a higher level of service.
