Really nicely crafted sushi. Strongly recommend the lemon sushi - forget the name. You eat it whole with the lemon rind. Delicious!! The sushi chefs put a lot of work into their craft here, and it's nice to be able to see them working on it behind the counter if you dine indoors. There is outdoor seating available as well, but we chose to sit inside because it was chilly.

It is a lovely place for dinner - it is cozy and atmosphere transforms you to Japan. It has a sushi bar when you can see the sushi chefs meticulously preparing the sushi. The staffs are always friendly and ready to answer questions you have on the menu. Let's talk about the foods! We enjoyed their sushi here. The quality of their sushi was one of the best in the area. While the menu didn't specify gluten-free options, the wait staff was able to help to identify what modifications could be done (where it was possible). We haven't tried their cooked food yet, but for sure will be back to try more.

First time visiting Tokio Sake and I am impressed! Food was high quality for cost. Presentation was good for takeout too. I had the chirashi bowl which contained a huge variety of sashimi. The star was the crispy tuna roll which my husband and I split. Only complaint was that we did not receive an order confirmation until the next morning so we had to call in to see when it would be ready.

    half eaten i forgot!

my friend zoë and I went in at 7:30pm not realizing they closed at 9pm. Tokio Sake was so accommodating we were all alone and our waitress was so sweet. We shared a pot of their green tea to drink which was so delicious i've had too many starbucks green teas in my past this one was a fresh reminder. For food we had the california roll, spicy salmon, philadelphia, shrimp tempura, edamame, potstickers, and miso soup. Everything was pretty good and affordable! Their seats were also super comfy with little pillows on their benches

Photos are of the Gingertini, a must have for the wife every time we come here. The Deer Park Crazy roll and the spicy scallop roll, and then the Sombrero appetizer. We came here on a Saturday night around 6 and were promptly seated, friendly staff as usual, and the food comes out very quick...probably less than 15 minutes after ordering. There is a nice variety of cocktail and sake options as well

I'd give Tokio Sake 10 stars, but the rating system doesn't go that high :) Awesome food, fresh, consistent! Every time I return I am confident it'll be just as good, if not better than the time before. exquisite tastes Pictured: Amaebi Sake (Fresh) Maguro (Bluefin) Hotate

A slightly different angle of the crispy spicy tuna roll which I covet.

We enjoyed Easter lunch at Stony River!…read more We started with the deviled eggs appetizer. They were delicious! The best candied bacon pieces I've ever had on top. Then the yolk filling was full of relish and chunky pickles, yum. Next up, four entrees...Cobb Salad takes the top ranking with the perfect portion of dressing, excellent bacon and avocado with perfectly cooked chicken breast. They forgot the egg, I was originally sad, but the salad with its mixed greens was amazing. My son got the bigger cut filet. It was thick! He loves medium rare, but with the height of the filet, he should have done medium to avoid the purple inner center. He got the truffle fries, honestly, awful, no potato, just skinny fried fries...pick another side. The salmon is up next with a pretty aggressive seasoning, a bit spicy. Very well cooked and huge portion, but get fresh cooked if you don't love spice. The Bistro Chicken, again, excellent. Great portion and yummy lemon and caper topping. The problem with the mains are the sides. The sides are the reason for 4 vs 5 stars. The broccoli was fine, but has that raw, earthy flavor versus buttery and or salty, our preference. The server we had was kind and attentive. She deserved 5 stars. She was great! Check them out for the mains, but more research needs to be done on picking the best sides...my guess...upgrade to a side salad or soup!

Every dish we've tried has been delicious, and the service is consistently excellent, whether we're seated at the bar or at a table. If you sit at the bar, you're treated to complimentary spiced popcorn (so good!) and can also ask for their signature rolls, which are almost like dessert -- warm, cinnamon-sugary, and served with whipped honey butter. My favorite dinner orders are the cheeseburger with parmesan fries and the bistro chicken (minus the capers). The cedar plank salmon and Tuscan chicken are also great choices.

We were a little hesitant ordering the Hanjeongsik since it was our first time and the mains (buttered abalone and short rib patties) were unfamiliar to us. Our server described it as a type of meal that was served for the royal family and comes with several dishes. Theirs included kimchi pancakes, freshwater eel, smoked salmon, and more. I think the shrimp tempura could be more flavorful, but aside from that, the dishes were thoughtful and so good. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality, and the menu has great variety as well, from KBBQ to bento boxes. The restaurant itself is modern, while the food is cooked traditionally and packed with flavor. I would gladly drive from the city just to eat here again.

Heard all the hype and decided to come here for a friends' lunch on New Year's Day…read more Overall: food was good, but not amazing. Pretty pricey for the Chicago suburbs, and the service really missed the mark. The food itself was good compared to other Korean spots around Chicago suburbs, but the prices felt above average. Honestly, some dishes were more expensive than what I usually pay in LA, which was surprising. The main reason for the 3 stars is the service. I couldn't tell if our server was super intense about her job or just ready to clock out for her 2:30 lunch break. We had a reservation for 10 people at 1pm on New Year's Day, and there were maybe one or two other tables the entire time. Still, the whole meal felt weirdly stressful. A few things that stood out: * After we ordered, the waitress made comments that made it sound like we didn't order enough food (6 people ordering about 4 servings). It felt unnecessary, especially since I asked to keep the menu so we could order more later. * She rushed us nonstop. Checking in every 5 minutes, grilling the meat on super high heat, and I literally felt like I was getting indigestion. When I asked if we could slow it down, she told me meat only tastes good on high heat (???). * She tried to clean the grill with a dry napkin, which tore and burned onto the grill. When we asked for a new grill, she said "I just cleaned it" and sighed before replacing it. Since when does Korean BBQ not swap grills? * As soon as we grabbed the last piece of meat (which we rushed through because she insisted on high heat), she immediately asked if we were done so she could clean up our table. Meanwhile, we had ordered the Mother's Signature hanjeongsik and weren't even halfway through it. The whole meal felt rushed from start to finish. There were other little things too. The "premium" side dishes weren't impressive, the shumai looked like Costco shumai, and the pancake was dry. I can see this place being popular with non-Koreans who want to try a lot of different dishes in one place, but for the price, it just wasn't worth it for me.

Who knew that a Whole Foods on Kiddler Street would turn into a stealth Asian pantry goldmine?…read more I usually walk in into pricier grocery stores with a plan: meat, bread, home. But today, that plan was deliciously derailed. I had every intention of skipping the produce but ended up frozen in my tracks. There it was. Fresh coconut chunks. Whole tamarind pods, not paste but the real deal. Aloe. Yucca. Chinese melons. And even red-flesh dragon fruit. The kind that makes your smoothie look like it came from a fairy tale. Normally, I plan a separate pilgrimage to Jongboo, H Mart, or Seoul Market for these ingredients. Reviews for those are coming, I promise. But this was unexpected magic in a mainstream aisle. I have spent a lot of time in Asia for work and completely fell in love with the food. My husband and kids are on board, so our kitchen is a happy rotation of Korean BBQ, Japanese curry, Singapore noodles, and hot pot. And this Whole Foods just made that rotation easier. Bonus points for three kinds of figs and gorgeous flowers, both on sale. This past visit everything was crammed into one bag until it ripped on my way to the car. For "premium" prices, that's messed up. The vibe is miserable.
