It's only 100 miles east of Glacier, and there's not much out there other than chain motels; even those are few and far between. I can honestly say this B&B is the best place I have ever stayed. It's more than a B&B; it's a nice house with a big living room, dining area, and kitchen with full frig and microwave. The bedroom has a magnificently comfy overstuffed bed with crisp sheets and comforter. The best is a bathroom to die for. It's huge with a steam walk-in shower that is wonderful! As someone who pays attention to every detail, I particularly noticed the big, cushy, fluffy towels, and wonderful soaps, shampoos, delicious home-made creams and other items that you would only get in a fancy spa! The place is so clean and fresh and like your own home (only better and cleaner!). There is full Dish cable with more channels than you can ever watch. The innkeepers keep the place supplied with many books, magazines, and beautiful music CDs to listen to. There is also free wi-fi that's very fast. The innkeepers are wonderful. After saying hello to Patty, it seems you have known her your entire life. They are friendly and nice and a pleasure to be around. Her husband Philip came out and greeted us when we drove up. The best for last: The breakfast. Gourmet doesn't begin to describe it. Wonderful pancakes with huckleberry jam, espresso, and regular coffee. There were eggs and home-made applesauce and everything was more delicious than the next. Best orange juice I have ever had - and I'm from Florida!! Sure beats a frozen bagel on a Styrofoam plate at a chain hotel! The price is much less than I have paid for this quality of B&B, and price-comparable to a Holiday Inn that's an hour farther east. It was $95 a night (May, 2010), and the HI was $100. Extremely reasonable! I could drone on for hours, but I'm sure you get the idea. You will just have to take my word for it - this is the best place I have stayed. Five stars aren't nearly enough!

Large couches in the living room and kitchen area could sleep additional guests. Local caretaker helps to deliver breakfast and clean towels. Would recommend to anyone staying on the high line. Looks like they're selling both locations so I hope future owners keep it nice.

Try a horseback ride in between fishing and marvel at the fields of purple fire weed. The staff were cool and accommodated dietary needs. Oh and did I say the fishing was awesome? The area is gorges, surrounded by pine trees, rough terrain through most of this area. The main lodge where the cooking and dining was located it over looked the South Fork of the Flathead River. The river has native west slope cutthroat and big bull trout. The fly of choice is the atomic ant, the water is so cold and pure in this area that rarely are there fly hatches, well at least the time we were there. The ranch backs into a National Forrest, where you cannot use any motorized vehicle, you can only hike or horse back into to fly fish. They do have a side road that will take the Fly fishing guides up half way up the river, where they will set in a float boat to fly fish. The guides here are very good, they know there stuff. I witnessed some of the best casting in years here. On a lunch break we stopped, and out of the boat one of the guides was backed up to a cliff that rose two hundred feet above him, yet he could make these cast out to the front and his back casts where going straight above him. That brought tears to my eyes, in true joy seeing that, I thought I could cast. Now if you have ever gone through an Orvis home decorating catalog, which is what the inside of these cabins, was filled with, Orvis lamps, bedspreads, towels to soaps, just unbelievable. IT reminded me of something Ralph Loren would put together. If you do go here, set aside a few days to go up to Glacier National Forrest, well worth it. The food was very great, but what I remember was the beauty of the area, the great customer service from the ranch hands, guides and staff. The fly fishing was just more than very good, it was off the chart. Thank you Spotted Bear Ranch, what a great spot for a guy to spend time with his dad! Thank you!
