We…read moreopted to go for the adult only retreat as our youngest child (the only one left) had no desire to go and if we weren't taking our kid we certainly didn't want to deal with anyone else's. Going into this trip I didn't know much, other than they had horses and that was what I wanted to do - ride horses. We arrived really early in the morning and was picked up at the airport, which was the size of a postage stamp. It was really easy to find our person, who grabbed our bags and loaded them into the trailer while we sat in the van. Met some others that were on the trip on the way to the lodge. Upon arrival they had a tent setup in the front where they greeted us, gave us a bag with a map of the property and list of that week's activities, told us our rooms weren't ready yet but they would find us when they were. Now - I'm going to note that they said they would find us when our room was ready and I didn't think they really would. We continued to check in to see when the room would be ready, but then later I saw them literally hunting someone down to give her keys - so they will indeed find you. When we checked in the room was a standard lodge room, we had a fridge but our friends didn't, in mentioning this in passing to the staff they brought them a fridge. Talk about service! We spent the next four days riding horses mostly, but also enjoying the company of the other guests and hearing stories from the staff. While we were really heavy on the horse rides we also enjoyed taking a tour of the elk preserve and clay sporting. We got a ride up to the yoga spot for a view (weren't too keen on hiking up there) and spent a good amount of time in the bar with fellow guests chatting up the staff. Everyone was amazing and so accommodating- I had said it was a bucket list trip but the staff at the Averill ranch has me seriously considering returning next year. Thank you for the memories.

Absolutely Incredible Trail Ride!…read more This was hands-down one of the best horseback riding experiences I've ever had! Jaeli, our lead guide, was amazing--informative, calm, and so kind. She gave clear safety instructions with great explanations and focused on what to do for the best ride possible. Shelby, who rode in the back, was super supportive and made sure no one got left behind. The horses? Beautiful, well-cared-for, and each with their own personality. We loved learning that all the horses live in Montana year-round under the care of one dedicated owner who knows and loves them deeply. That kind of consistency and attention really stood out. The trail took us through peaceful backwoods and up to a ridge with stunning views. Jaeli even offered to snap photos of our group at the top--so thoughtful! At the end walking our horse we rode to get water was icing on the cake ~ best time talking to the horse and loving on him. It was a great send off ~ see the pictures!! Their milk is pasteurized, but not ultra pasteurized, so it's a little bit easier for individuals with mild lactose intolerance to enjoy. There is still lactase enzyme in the top layer of this creamery's milk. As for the available products, they sell all the usual milk varieties in pint and quart, and gallon varieties. They also sell whipping cream, ice cream (chocolate and vanilla), Greek (plain and honey) yogurt, and plain yogurt. Knick-knacks are also available - cereal bowls, glass dairy bottles, shirts, hats, and old milk truck replicas. We went to town and bought a ton of products, as the milk, yogurt, and ice cream tastes so much fresher than typical store-bought items. Part of the reason for this difference is that only their milk is going into the processing, so like some wine varietals, they have more control over the final product. Also, I love farms that treat their animals well... from what we observed, they were truly happy cows. They even came over to the fence and looked at us, so cute.
