What a gem! This cozy, intimate venue is perfect. The facilities are well done and nicely appointed, the food and food service is great, the acoustics are good. We had a great time and highly recommend this place. read more

It's a great place to see a show. The food is better than what one might expect. The staff is amazing.

No complaints at all with our entertainment and our meals. The one complaint I have is no access to WI-FI. We had a family issue and had no access to WI-FI. You should at a minimum have access to purchase that service for emergencies. read more

Magic. Absolutely magical. I've been to Stone Mountain Arts Center twice to see Griffin William Sherry (formerly of Ghost of Paul Revere) and the experience is unparalleled. It's a spacious, rustic post and beam structure, decorated with a birch tree and twinkle light aesthetic. A beautiful, intimate venue with excellent sound. I think it might say, "If you build it they will come," on the SMAC website, definitely true. You really need to be committed to attending a show here, I believe the website also suggests not trusting GPS to get you there, because it will put you on roads that are "impassable". One driver and one navigator are recommended--lots of twists and turns on dark roads. The venue itself is on a gravel road. The staff is friendly and helpful--we were assisted with parking and seating. I haven't had a chance to have dinner there but hope to--both shows were on work days and we couldn't get there early enough for the 5 or 6 pm sitting. There are no photos with this review because they are a phone free venue, photography is forbidden, and they proudly advertise that anyone with their phone out will be asked to leave. I'm usually not into places with lots of rules but this rule definitely enhances the experience. Can't wait to go back. read more

Caught a show here on a Saturday night. This is an awesome place. We were seated with seven other people a good bit older than us and we had a fabulous time. Great acoustics. Beautiful location. Friendly and accommodating staff! read more

Pretty trippy finding a venue of this caliber literally in the middle of the woods on a dirt road but there it is! New, beautiful architecture and great music. We didnt eat there but the drink service was great. Good sound and we sat up in the balcony and the view was good from all the tables. The dinner theater aspect does give a bit of a cruise ship vibe vs. edgy night club and the patronage the night we went was largely senior citizens but they were groovin' Non-diners get back of the house & balcony. Show up early after they open and get the front balcony seats - that is the sweet spot I think... read more

EVERYTHING about this place is fantastic. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere and ambiance were one-of-a-kind. Excellent service, too. We saw Brandi Clark perform with her band, and it was a great show. But the individual performer was not the star of the show; at Stone Mountain, the venue is the star. And, the proprietor, Carol Noonan, is hands-on, going from supervising the kitchen to greeting guests to a million other details. The staff was friendly and getting people all seated at the same time was done in a very organized manner. There were lots of very comfortable smaller spaces to sit and have a drink and talk before going into the main room for dinner. I've even heard from other musicians that they are treated better here than anywhere else they've played. Said one, "BEST Gig in the World." read more

We have ordered takeout from SMAC a few times during the pandemic, which is not as much fun as being there for dinner and music. Our must recent order included the smoked salmon appetizer, the Buffalo Gal salad, the East meets Dugway shrimp suppah, and brownies. Because the servings were large we made two meals of them. Having lived in Buffalo we the chicken in the salad needed a bit more hot sauce but that's just us. The Thai chilli sauce in the shrimp dish was incredibly good. We will continue to explore the SMAC takeout menu over the next several months and will be there for dinner and a concert as soon as possible. read more

First time here and it was a great evening! We went to see Paula Poundstone. We were warned about the size of the meals, so my wife and i split a Cesar salad and an order of Lasagna which turned out to be the perfect amount. The food was delicious, the setting was perfect and Paula was hilarious! A wonderful evening had by all! read more

Great venue, really good drinks, super friendly servers & staff and the food was really, really good!!

If you haven't heard, Stone Mountain arts Center offers Thursday night theme dinners that are amazing! It's a fixed menu at a fixed price of $55, and the portions are enormous! (They will box up anything you can't finish, and I recommend you pace yourself because each course is better than the last one!) I get at least 3-4 portions of almost every course, maybe with an exception for dessert which maybe (?) lasts for a second helping. LOL The pix are from last week's Irish theme night. Another wonderful part of this dining opportunity is that SMAC uses revenue from these dinners to fund the 100+ family food weekly donated boxes to area families who need help during the pandemic. Think globally, act locally. read more

SMAC hosted one of the best weddings I've ever attended. Everything was perfect from the venue to the food. Their attention to detail in making someone's day incredibly special is meticulously perfect. The food, beyond being delicious, was absolutely gorgeous. Staff were all friendly, funny and outgoing. I'm eally blown away. Thanks to all involved. read more

I went to an event at stone mountain arts center last night. We had a snow storm going on and I had not realized before I bought the ticket how brutal the drive would be. I drove from Massachusetts and it's really an awful drive. You don't go through an interstate. The roads were deserted, dangerous and didn't have any rest stops. The neighborhood seemed to be made in the middle of a rural area and there were no hotels around to stay over. After a very long drive I made it to the venue. They had a parking lot. To enter the venue you go into a big lobby with a bar and one of the ladies walks you to your seat. The seating is general admission and in order to get a good seat you have to pay a $15 minimum for dinner. I didn't do this and I had the worst seat in the house. They put me in the nosebleeds upstairs. The concert room was very hot and stuffy. It didn't smell bad though. I don't like general admission venues that do not give you a choice on where to sit or stand. Their bathrooms were nice and clean. The employees I came across were friendly and nice. I do not recommend going to a show here if you live far away. The seats suck unless you get there way before the show starts. It was not worth my 6 hour round trip drive. If you live in the area it might be worth it. read more

Fantastic place to catch a show! Definitely worth my drive from Bridgewater, MA! Very intimate venue that brings in top name artists! Make sure you show up hungry if you choose the dinner option with the show, the amount of food is huge and delicious! They offer pizzas, salads, and dinners. They have a nice preshow room to enjoy some adult beverages and conversation with fellow fans. The staff is extremely friendly and courteous! A huge shout out to Mariah who did an outstanding job waiting the table I was at during the Peter Wolf and Midnight Travelers show...top notch!! read more

What an amazing venue. The lineup of national and international acts is remarkable, especially for a place that is truly in the middle of nowhere Maine. Pay attention to the written directions on their website, as you will lose GPS before you arrive! You can leave your cell phone in the car too, no signal. Just step off the grid for awhile, live in the moment, and enjoy the show. Great production values as well, first class sound, lights, and not a bad seat in the house. We were there for Los Lobos, a packed house on a Wednesday. Los Lobos in a room that only seats 200 people, wow! The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. Music comes first here, the audience is not disturbed by servers during the performances. You can get a beverage at the outer bar during the show, but you won't have people around you talking loudly while placing drink orders. Much appreciated. If you are a lover of love music, get yourself to SMAC! read more

what a great venue!! Certainly one of Maine's most best kept secrets. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were GREAT. Got there too late to order dinner before the show, which was fine. Nothing on the menu stood out to me, especially for the prices...$32 for a pizza is absurd. Will definitely be back for another show and will just grab a bite to eat before hand. read more

Stone Mountain now serves Sunday brunch, most Sundays! We went last Sunday, and as always, they do not dissapoint. For starters the atmosphere is unlike anything you have likley experinced. We were in our own snug, creatively decorated and very welcoming. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted by Suzie, and seated at our table. Water is always on the table, a big plus for me. Allison our server, is so personable, responsive and always right there when you need her. In fact all of the wait staff are. Its like a big family. Marissa made us lovely cocktails. I had a delicious bloody Mary and my husband and his sister had mimosas, with the perfect ratio of champagne to OJ. I had the western omelet. The peppers and onions were perfectly prepared, and it comes with a delicious english muffin from a local bakery, and a generous side of fingerling potatoes. My husband had the veggie omelet , again perfection. My sister in law had the waffels with fresh fruit. Not only was it delicious, but was a work of art. I wish I had taken a picture! read more

A cozy little place, in the middle of nowhere, that is way to expensive for what they offer. Oh, and it's CASH ONLY. And you'll need a lot of it. I have been to this venue twice, both times to see my favorite band, Enter The Haggis. You're warned to not follow GPS, because some of the roads that it may send you down aren't maintained in the winter. So just be aware. The building is very pleasant. It is two barns, connected by a causeway. The initial barn, where the bar, box office, merch, and waiting area is located. It is very nice, cozy even. Though there isn't much space to sit, and Even though I arrived 45 minutes before dinner service, it was crowded. Myself and my girlfriend bought a bottle of wine. While the wine was good, it was a bit overpriced. $32 for a $15 bottle of wine. But, I get it. Alcohol, and its a venue, and blah blah blah. They let groups into the Entertainment barn based on who's been waiting in the wait area barn the longest. A group of four, we were #31 to enter the "Entertainment barn" It was roughly half full. We were initially directed to a far table in the corner. This was unacceptable. Wait staff told us that the other tables were for larger groups of 6 or 5. Finally they brought us to a 5 top, even though there were only 4 of us. The table was tiny, there is no way imaginable that the table could fit 5, it barley fit four of us. Despite the table being very small, we were generally close to the stage. However, the room was packed. It was uncomfortable with the amount of tables that the venue decided to cram into this room. I get it, they need to make money, therefore lets make it a dinner then a show place. But, still.... Very Very uncomfortable. The dinner was expensive, but very tasty. I had a wonderful pot pie with lamb, chicken, and veal in it. It came with corn bread, pumpkin butter, a salad, and a piece of watermelon for $25. Initially the cost put me off, but the quality of the dinner was top notch. For dessert me and my girlfriend shared a gingerbread dessert. It was four small pieced of Ginger Bread Cake. It was dry, and not much flavor. Caramel sauce on the bottom, with a small amount of ice cream and whipped cream. The cost of this dessert was not listed on the menu, as the menu changes often. Unfortunately it was $12. I have paid less in 4 star restaurants for better desserts. The show was great, though the volume went up (literally) in the second set. So much so, that we had a hard time understanding the singer. If you read all that, cheers! If not, here is a quick breakdown: *Middle of Nowhere, easy to get lost. Use their directions online. *CASH ONLY. *Tiny sitting (pre show) room. *Tickets are overpriced for the venue. *Wine is expensive, though you can purchase bottles. *Venue room is very very very cramped. *Food is expensive, but delicious. *Dessert is VERY EXPENSIVE, and disappointing. *Service is good. Me and my girlfriend had one bottle of wine, two tickets for the show, two dinners, and one dessert. The grand total was $156 + Tip. Damn..... If I had the choice between the SAMC and other places, I would go elsewhere for my music venue. read more

Okay, so maybe I'm desperate for some nightly entertainment in western Maine but this place is great. Coming from Boston and having been to many small and large venues there and in Manhattan this place is the bomb considering its in the midde of no where. Even when I don't know the performers I've given it a shot and have always been pleasantly surprised. The folks that seat you are more than accommodating and we have asked to be re-directed when we "didn't like where they were going" - as in toward a buried table - without a problem. We've seen Paula Cole, Paula Poundstone, Bob Marley, Bela Fleck, as well as a few others, and always had a great evening. We have been with and without dinner, in groups of 4, 6 and 2. The seating is no different. The food I thought initially was kinda expensive (but what are you gonna do) but then I got the $20 salad. Delicious with freshest ingredients including strawberries, blueberries, candied pecans, truly fresh greens and peppers, onions, tomoatoes and an absolutely delightful dressing (I wish they bottled) and easily shared by two or more with a bottle of wine and an anything but run-of-the-mill pizza. Mwah!!! Magnifique!! I am so grateful to have a place to go when I get cabin fever up here. Give it a try!! You won't be disappointed. Just remember not to use your GPS and to follow the directions on their website. Otherwise you will think you are lost on a dirt road in the woods and want to turn back! :) Oh, and by the way, they will take credit cards for tickets and though they prefer for cash or check for dinner (which is understandable given its a small venue) they ask only that you let them run a credit card it through at the beginning of the night so they don't hold you up when trying to leave with everyone else. Not a big deal. read more

Beautiful venue in the middle of nowhere. I thought the food was pretty good, with generous portions. I had the veggie lasagna which came with a salad and cornbread. I ate everything on my plate, but I wish I would have saved room for dessert. Many folks took home their leftovers, and the salads are easily enough for 2 people as dinner. As the previous reviewer mentioned, if you arrive for dinner, then you get seated more to your preference. We were the 23rd group-couple to come in and we still ended up sitting about 6 feet from the stage; the sound was quite good and this is a very intimate venue. We saw Greg Brown and it was a very inspirational evening! read more

I just saw Rhiannon Giddens at Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, Maine. It was a phenomenal experience. I read some of the previous reviews and was interested in seeing it for myself. There is no question that it is in the middle of nowhere and difficult to find. Cell service is non existent so print out directions!! I was there in the summer and I bet that it can be tricky getting up that hill in the winter!! That being said some previous reviews were critical of the venue, pricing and value. It is cash only and they serve only beer and wine. I previously spoke on the difficulty of finding the place and I speak from experience!! I drove around for 30 minutes trying to find it and arrived just before show time. It was well worth it. I was haggard from traveling from Charleston, SC all day to catch the show after flying into Boston. Arriving late and missing dinner service they were fantastic and threw together a little something for me to get me by. For them to be able to manage dinner service in such a remote location is impressive. Not to mention the kindness they showed me. To be able to get international acts into such a small venue is another incredible accomplishment. Make no mistake about it they maximize the seating to the fullest and its shoulder to shoulder. That is a small price to pay for being able to see world class performers in such a beautiful intimate setting. Pricing is also in line with what you get when you are fortunate to see shows in which amounts to be a room albeit a beautiful one! Post and beam with a small balcony. It is absolutely beautiful!! Not to mention the incredible sound!! This place is a national treasure and I would tell anyone that wherever you are on earth it is worth your trip!! Just don't tell anyone about it!!! We were here for a wedding so I don't know what it would be like to see a show or what their regular menu is like. That said, we absolutely loved the place. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is in the middle of nowhere. It is a beautiful space. The bar area and the performance area are both wonderful restorations. Dinner was buffet style and everyone seemed to enjoy the variety. I personally thought the Mac and cheese was excellent. The service was great. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. read more

Our daughter's wedding at Stone Mountain far exceeded any expectations I had. The "green room" downstairs was available for the wedding party to get dressed, prepare etc. Groom and groomsmen got ready first and then went upstairs to the bar in the barn to have a drink and greet guests as they arrived. Then bride and attendants arrived in green room to prepare. Plenty of time and attention by wedding planner and other employees. Great, relaxed atmosphere all around. Lots of LPs and a turntable to listen to, so much fun. Wedding ceremony was beautiful and food was excellent. Every guest was so impressed by the food. We were all treated like VIPs by all employed there. GET THIS: A guest's vehicle had a flat tire. That guest made arrangements for an alternative ride home, but when they left the venue they found that the tire had been removed and the spare put on while we danced the night away. NOT EVEN KIDDING. Thank you Stone Mountain, I would have another child's wedding there in a heartbeat! You guys are seriously the best. read more

I feel like I need to write two reviews. This is a terrific music venue in the middle of (almost) nowhere that offers an intimate listening experience that also serves food as part of the destination attraction. Music 4.5 stars The venue is in a restored barn that seats perhaps under 125 souls around a few 4 up tables and a number of long family style tables and benches. Site lines are quite good all around on the lower level. There's a partial upper level as well, but I didn't go up there. They have a superb system of seating. when you first arrive, they take your name and assign you a number and you can hang out in another restored barn and have a drink while waiting for seating. Strangely, they don't offer any appetizers..perhaps a missed opportunity for all. Anyhow, when seating commences, they call your number and bring you in to find a seat, based on your arrival time, so there's no need to stand in line and jostle for position. Genius. BTW, the bartender, in spite of a limited but more than adequate selection, was personable and very efficient. I was fortunate to attend a solo performance by Rodney Crowell, and also admit that I was able to sit right up front, adjacent to the stage. It was a spectacular and intimate concert, including terrific sound and ambiance. Perhaps it's because this is a destination venue and a bit remote, but consequently the audience seemed to know his music and were enthusiastic. At one point, you could hear several patrons tapping their boots in unison to the timing of the music, essentially providing the percussion. This was one of those "special" concerts that I'll remember. Food 1.5 stars Oh Oh. Not so good. Part of the problem is that if you make a dinner reservation, you simply get a much better seat, so there is a benefit to dinner. Too bad, the food itself and attitude don't match. It's a very limited menu, with a few pizza choices, two main dishes, a few salads, and a desert or two. We did not order the pizza, and I have to say that they looked pretty good, and I noticed that most patrons ate the whole thing. We elected to get a large salad and two pasta entrées. The server delivered a salad that looked gigantic. In fact it was so big that we worried that our entrées would be too much, so we asked if we could return the salad which had not been touched at all. She refused and from her body language, was simply put out by it all. Very strange. Also irksome because we had ordered entrées and 2 bottles of wine, so the bill was not going to be a tiny one. Anyhow, we got over it, and ate the pretty decent salad. The entrées came, and I have to say that there was so much pasta in each dish that my fellow diner called it "obscene" and not in a positive way. The meal was accompanied by chicken that had obviously been cooked well ahead of time in a big batch, barely warmed up, and thrown into the dish, with the hopes that the red sauce would both warm it up a bit and make it more tasty. Nope. didn't happen. BTW, the prices weren't too expensive, but they would have been much better served to present half the portion on each plate and focused more on quality. Would I go back? Yes...for the right performer. I really loved the music venue. I'd probably feel obligated to eat there again, just for the better seating options. I'll try the pizza or hope that they really look at their menu and try to improve upon it so that this venue could truly be a special one. read more

I absolutely love visiting the Stone Mountain Arts Center. Over the last 3 years, I have been to several shows, both in the main stage area (with dining) and also their "Barn Burner" series, which as the title suggests, are performances in their barn. The food has always been unbelievable. We've had salmon, different pizzas, delicious salads with candied nuts and/or dried fruit and cheeses, chicken parmesan, beef stroganoff, homemade cornbread, grilled asparagus- just so many delicious things! The music has always been fantastic and it feels like everyone is just having such a blast! It also feels very relaxed there - you really feel at home. And every time my husband and I go, we always say we can't wait to return. I love that its in a remote area. Its great to shake off the stressors of city life and smell the fresh air and be closer to nature. The people who own the Center are absolutely lovely and the staff couldn't be nicer. They all seem to have such pride for this place and, given our experiences, it really shows. I hope they continue to do what they do for as long as they can because the Stone Mountain Arts Center makes me very, very happy! read more

Went to an absolutely lovely wedding reception at the Stone Mountain Arts Center as a guest this month. Although it's marketed as a music venue, if you're looking to have a beautiful private event in the Brownfield area, this is the place you want to have it at. The "barn" area was where the cocktail hour and appetizers were served while the reception was held in the much larger main stage area to the right. The barn was a bit cramped and didn't serve hard liquor, but it was delightful for the post meal dancing after some guests had taken off early and spaced things out a bit. The food was delicious and the waitstaff was very pleasant. My only recommendation would be for the owners to maybe rig up some wifi (that they could shut off when musicians are playing). There is *zero* cell phone reception this far out in Maine and it made it hard to check in with relatives post-wedding who were worried we'd get lost getting back and forth. Otherwise, the Stone Mountain Arts Center is a perfect wedding venue and a goregous place to visit if you're visiting the Brownfield area. read more

Discovered SMAC several years ago, and it is easily the best entertainment, food and wedding venue I have had the pleasure to experience. Carol Noonan and her staff are the hardest working, most pleasant people you can deal with. We have attended 30 performances ranging from big names like Judy Collins to lesser-known (but fabulous) more local performers like Parsonsfield. Even had the chance to enjoy classical performances like the opera soprano, Lisa Saffer! This intimate setting makes every single performance an amazing experience. Our daughter chose SMAC for her wedding this past fall and the 185 guests were blown away by the excellent food, the incredible timber frame environment, gorgeous flower arrangements and superb staff. My only regret is that more shows are sold out quickly since others have discovered what was once Maine's best-kept secret. Kudos to all who make Stone Mountain Arts such a fabulous place. read more

The Christmas Show was fantastic. Even though the show was sold out and the barn was full, the intimate feeling of being one with the performers was undeniable. We chose the Stone Mountain Arts Center (aka SMAC) for our wedding venue and were totally blown away. Hannah and Carol made sure that everything went off without a hitch, and the food is better than any wedding food I'd ever had (and so said countless guests). It's the perfect layout for a wedding because you can jump back and forth between the two barns for ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. If you're looking for a rustic barn wedding, it really is the perfect location. They also recommended some fantastic vendors, including our photographer (Anne Skidmore, she's amazing), as well as the Snowvillage Inn and the Purity Springs Resort for our guests. Everyone in that area really takes care of you like family and it made our day so special. The venue is beer and wine only, but they were accommodating in what they could do (for example, we had a winter wedding, so we did mulled wine). The GPS does struggle a little with the last ten minutes, but if you use your phone, as long as you put the address in before you lose service, it will get you there no problem. All in all, we felt better about putting our wedding budge towards an Arts center, and the returns were incredible. We highly recommend! read more

These people have quite the racket going. In order to get a good seat for the 8 pm concert, you have to get there at 6 pm and be seated for dinner. Then, since they have a captive audience of people who have nothing better to do for two hours than to eat, they charge exorbitant prices for the food. It was twenty dollars for macaroni and cheese, a salad, and a piece of cornbread. The cheapest thing on the menu is $18.50 for a salad. Oh, and there is a big deal if you pay by credit card, because they don't want to have to pay the credit card fees. Then the show got started 40 minutes late, so we were sitting there waiting even longer. The music was so loud it was physically painful. This is a very small space and we went to see Lucinda Williams, so I didn't expect the volume to be cranked up to heavy metal band levels. All I could do was rest my elbows on the table and keep my fingers in my ears to lessen the assault. I thought the whole point of paying huge ticket prices to see an artist in an intimate setting was to experience the music up close and personal, but this was like sitting in front of the speakers blasting music as if to a huge arena. We would have been better off parking our car outside the barn and enjoying the music at a reasonable volume. I could maybe see putting yourself through this if there was an artist playing there whom you were really a big fan of, but otherwise, save yourself a lot of trouble and and buy the CD and listen to it in the comfort of your own home. With all the money you save, you could go out to a really nice restaurant every night for a week instead! read more
