Very easy to get to, follow the signs all the way to the back and you will find it! When you go in , you get checked in, there are cubbies and hangers. You can bring in your water if you wish . The rental will include harness and shoes. Make sure you wear gym Gear and dress comfortably! The employees will go Through an orientation step by step making sure you know how to take off the buckle from the Harness and how to fasten it. Safety tips, how to come down from the top when You have climbed up. Also the importance of the number and colors. I didn't know that the smaller the numbers it was somewhat easier than the others. They were all challenging but some more than others. There was bouldering, top rope and lead climbing, and auto belay system. This is a great place if you want to conquer fear of heights in any way or to work On upper body strength. I did great going up . It was like a puzzle, hands would get tired, shake but the most scary part for me was going down. Why?! We are tied and secured!? Matt was such a wonderful teacher for the time we spent there . Showing us step by step and cheering us on. Then we met Tracy whose a member there . Tracy was soo kind and nice also to give us tips and work with us! Tracy didn't let me give up when I felt tired. She reminded me it was ok to rest. She pushed me through and I made it to the top!! Wonderful people and a fun environment ! Can't wait to go back!

The Central Rock Gym separates their routes using hold colors which is much better than gyms that put stickers near each route. The gym is clean and staff if very friendly. A member of the staff, James, had a strong role in getting us into the sport.

The facilities are also well-maintained since they are clean and properly managed. My biggest concern for this place, however, is the affordability of the memberships. I'm sure the up-keeping of the facility can be expensive, but the prices only attract a particular group of people. Perhaps this is intentional; I am always looking for places that seek to incorporate diversity, both economically and racially. Keeping up with the monthly membership price is surely not sustainable for someone who lives off minimum wage or, even for someone who makes a bit more. Thus, though this can be a fun and safe place for the community, it lacks the actual representation of the latter. Moreover, no incentive programs currently exist to make this place a bit more affordable for the average working-class family in the city. Now, while they do have a family plan, it is exclusively for immediate family. I tried to create a membership with my older brothers but, was told that the family membership was only for my spouse and children. of which I have neither. This is truly a disappointment since with the single membership, you can only bring a guest with you once a month; after that there is a fee. So, if you're someone like me, who likes to bring a friend along to help with climbing or to encourage you with working out, this isn't the place for you. Unless of course, you friend wants to purchase a membership, too. But again, it´s just not cost-efficient or worth it for the average low/medium income person. But, for those of you who make a good amount of money, this place can definitely be worth it. They offer a wide range of workout classes and opportunities to get better at rock climbing. You'll just want to make sure you're taking advantage of everything- to make the dollar count. Overall, I really enjoy rock climbing, and this facility is truly well-managed and maintained. It has a lot of potential to actively engage with the community it's in; however, whether intentional or not, it greatly lacks in being a racially and economically diverse space. This is truly unfortunate for a place as fun and engaging as this one can be. Frankly, it's intimidating when you can count, with one hand, the number of people of color during a typical night, or even to witness the non-existence of the lower/ lower-middle class. And if you're from Worcester, you know it's a large community they're keeping out, a community that is greatly diverse. This facility has the opportunity to bring people together, but unfortunately, the prices hinder this from doing so and have instead, settled for just one particular group. And oh! the prices just recently went up $5.00 for all memberships.

Man , it's been a while! I haven't climbed a rock wall since I was a kid (since I was much…read morelighter). Indoor climbing really does put your health in perspective. This place is very cool and has a very awesome staff. The dudes who signed me up for a day pass were great, and the people I presumed to be "regulars" seemed chilled out as well. The bouldering section is interesting; you have people climbing and also supportive spectators. I think the small workout session near the exercise floor's entrance was perfect! Kettlebells, dumbbells, chin up bars, and gymnastic rings. The bathrooms have lockers and showers - everything was very clean. Thanks Cliff!

Climbers also tend to be friendly as well; people are usually more than happy to chat about beta and provide tips when asked. Routesetting is decent. Lots of fun, interesting problems at higher grades. The slab area upstairs is small but usually has some really enjoyable climbs. However, climbs below V2 are almost all ladders, and the routesetters' ideas for "spicy" low grade climbs tend to be worse handholds/steeper inclines rather than provide interesting challenges for newer climbers. Every now and then you come across a climb where the crux seems to be "try not to accidentally use this massive handhold from a different climb located in the most inconvenient spot possible." But overall, I'd say the routesetting is a positive. Now for the main reason that this review is only 2 stars: safety. Or rather, a complete lack of it. People sit/stand directly in front of the wall all the time, even when they're not about to climb anything. Most are happy to move when you ask, but you will get the occasional dirty look. Coaches and off-duty routesetters are often the worst offenders here. Chalk bags, climbing shoes, and phones frequently litter the ground directly underneath the wall. People walk directly underneath climbers in the bouldering area *all the time*, and even when other people are watching usually no one says anything. In over a year of climbing here, I have yet to see a single instance of an employee enforcing a safety rule in the bouldering area. Occasionally, there are horrifically dangerous climbs that almost make me think one of the routesetters has a side deal with a personal injury attorney (see attached photo). tl; dr: Lots of fun climbs, but when it comes to safety you're on your own.

Great time here at the Rock Club…read more Purchased a Groupon and decided to visit on a Friday morning. Called ahead and the front desk staff were very quick in getting back to me to confirm that a belayer was available at that time. They also confirmed the Groupon over the phone. I went ahead and completed the required waiver forms online prior to our visit. Adequate parking was available at that time. The Rock Club (downstairs) shares its space with a with a tennis club, so make sure you follow the ramp down toward the Rock Club entrance and NOT the stairs whih leads to the tennis club. We arrived at around 10am and it was fairly empty. The Rock Club staff explained the process and set us up with climbing shoes. We were then introduced to our belayer who was awesome. Over the next hour, we tried climbs ranging in difficulty. The wall heights range from about 35-40 feet and the peg placement and wall angles vary throughout the climbs, making some more difficult than others. We even had some time to try some bouldering. Our belayer was great at explaining techniques and technical terms. She was very patient and very encouraging...though not "pushy" at all. After we finished, the staff was nice enough to show us around to see what else was available at the facility: childrens area, common areas, training rooms and weight rooms. May go without saying...wear comfy clothes. As a regular gym-goer, but someone who has NOT climbed before, this was a welcomed challenge. Certain muscles, particularly the forearms and core, may not be part of the typical gym regimen...but are very important in climbing...that being said, I was definitely feeling it the next day. Overall we had a great experience at the Rock Club. We will deinifitely look into other classes. Kudos to all the staff members there.
