Our Guide Nick was absolutely great! He made my partner and I feel safe with rock climbing and rappelling. It was our first time doing any kind of activity like that, and although my partner is athletic I am not lol. However, we were both able to do the same kind of routes and everything together. It was something that opened my mind to doing it again in the future! Would 10/10 recommend. When we went they did accommodate our experience to a little bit of everything with rock climbing, scrambling and rappelling. I would say that you do have to be prepared to spend outside in very hot sun. Our guide let us rock climb a spot that had shade but going to the location we were in the sun for a bit. We always had a double safety, so of course you would be doing the majority of the work on your own but in moments you feel like you would fall there was a security behind it which allowed you to put more trust in your abilities. read more

Our group of 10 boy scouts had an awesome experience rocking climbing with Stone Adventures. Our guides, Mason, Ryan and Nick were encouraging, patient and fun! The weather was perfect and the area the boys were climbing at was quiet and felt really secluded. Mason is also very helpful and flexible in helping our group of boy scouts complete their climbing merit badges. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. I will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone! read more

What an amazing experience! Alex, our guide, exceeded our expectations and made sure we had the most time on the rocks as possible. We climbed multiple routes in our 4-hour time block, while feeling supported and more educated on techniques used for this type of stone. Hearing him root for me at the bottom was very encouraging to keep pushing! I would definitely come back and recommend their services to everyone. read more

Amazing climb with Seth who was patient, encouraging and flexible. We had a great time-felt this was due to our guide. Thank you!

I had such an awesome experience with Stone Adventures! It all started a few months ago when I was first planning my trip to Joshua Tree. I've done a lot of gym climbing but wanted to get more outdoor climbing experience, so I reached out to get some more information on it. Aron was great about answering all my questions, and I pretty much booked right after. On the morning of my trip, I arrived at Stone Adventures, filled out the waiver, and met my guide Brad. We talked about my current experience with climbing and what I was looking to get out of the session (I said that I wanted to do a bit of bouldering and a bit of top rope) and then inspected my gear (Stone Adventures can provide you with everything you need--shoes, helmet, harness--or you can bring your own). After that, I followed Brad in my car into the park, and our adventure began (note: Stone Adventures does NOT cover the park entrance fee). Before any climbing, he told me that his two priorities are safety and fun, and I definitely saw that throughout the day. We started with bouldering; Brad led us to a cool area with plenty of problems to try (and also showed me the semi-secret Iron Door Cave!). He did a great job of getting a feel for my climbing level and having me try stuff that was within my capabilities but still kind of challenging/outside my comfort zone. I even got some cool tips about some climbing styles that I haven't really done, which I appreciated. He also pointed out a bobcat that I totally would not have seen otherwise--I'm always stoked about seeing wildlife in the park, so I'm glad that happened! Now although I didn't explicitly say that I wanted to go scrambling as part of my day, Brad suggested an awesome little scrambling area that was SO much fun. It was a great "break" between bouldering and top roping. We ended the session with two fun top rope problems. During this time, I got to practice tying in as a climber, which is something I don't do often since I mainly boulder at the gym. Although I know how to tie in, Brad showed me some awesome knot-tying and untying tricks that I'm definitely gonna be using the next time I rope climb. He also told me a little bit about how cams and anchors work, which helped me trust rope climbing a lot more than I initially did. For the actual climbing part, I never felt unsafe--we made sure to do our safety checks, and Brad was super communicative, which is a great trait to have as a belayer. Overall, it was an amazing day! The next time I visit Joshua Tree, I would definitely love to climb with Stone Adventures again. read more

I have gone on two climbing trips with Stone Adventures and each time was absolutely a blast. Everyone who works at this company is extremely friendly and they try to plan trips according to what you want to do. My most recent trip was with Jaden and I wanted to focus on how to build and break down top roping anchors. Jaden took the time to explain, demonstrate and allow me to practice. My partner and I really appreciated how much Jaden focused on what we wanted to do and get out of our climbing trip. I would recommend this company to all climbers with varying experience in climbing. I hope to climb with Stone Adventures again. read more

Brad was a perfect guide! He was great at showing my 8 and 10 year old daughters how to climb safely. He was friendly and knowledgeable and we couldn't have asked for more. He knows the park inside and out and found the perfect spot where they could challenge themselves in a safe way. And of course the location was beautiful, not to mention uncrowded (which can be hard to find during the high season.) read more

We had soooo much fun! My fiancée and I went for an afternoon of bouldering with Stone Adventures. The booking was process was easy! Our guide was Jaden. He was super cool and knowledgeable. We've been to Joshua Tree 4-5 times in the past, but nothing compares to this. If you go to JT without a guide, you just drive from spot to spot and aimlessly walk around. Sometimes it feels like a tourist trap struggling for parking, and waiting in lines for pot toilets. With Stone Adventures, they know all the special spots and make each moment magical. We hired 2 guides (Brad and Steven) to take 10 people (4 adults + 6 kids 10-21 yrs old). We did a 6 hr climb. 1 climbing site, 2 scrambling trails. We had SO much fun. Brad and Steven were so knowledgable and focused on safety. For climbing, they set lines for us and we did 4 different climbs to accomodate everyone's comfortable level. They made even the most timid feel comfortable. Our favorite part was the scrambles! You follow them into the depths of the structures climbing and descending into fun openings and pathways. Some big, some shockingly small. You feel reborn on the other side! read more

This was absolutely an amazing experience. I took my family--wife and two teens. My one daughter was petrified of rock climbing from a prior experience. Greg was our guide and he totally walked my 13-year-old daughter through the entire experience and she loved it. These people totally have a gift for teaching. Good communicators (email etc) and reasonable fees. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Stone adventures!!!! read more

Wow! What a memorable experience. Annie was an amazing guide and therapist haha! I'm truly afraid of heights and have 0 rock climbing experience, neither does my fiancé. I was super scared but she didn't feed our fear. Annie was super calm and patient. I will never forget this climb. It was challenging but having tried it gave us such a euphoric feeling. We couldn't stop talking about it. I highly highly reccommend. read more

Highly recommend Stone Adventures for your next rock climbing in Joshua Tree. Our family has been climbing indoors at Sender One over the last year and we finally decided to experience the outdoors... enter Stone Adventures. I loved how easy it was to schedule and book our 4 hour private guided experience. I so appreciate how organized Annie (one of the owners) is.. the follow up emails had all the information I needed from FAQ, waivers, to maps, recommendations on restaurants/ places to stay, and even links to videos where we could "meet" our guides prior to the experience. Our guide, Aron was awesome and so great with our kids (age 6 and age 8). The kids had so much fun and Aron boosted their confidence and helped them feel at ease on the wall. It's an experience they will be talking about for years. My husband and I appreciated Arons amiable and easy going personality. He is an awesome climber and teacher but so approachable and kind. Thanks for an epic experience. Look forward to scheduling another adventure in the future. read more

Awesome time with Stone Adventures. They have taken a group of us bouldering 3 years in a row, and it's such a great time I'm already planning on next year's trip. JT can be daunting without having a professional there, and so I highly recommend calling them if you're thinking about climbing in Joshua Tree. They were flexible with our schedule (we were driving out from L.A. that morning) and Jaden has shown us some great boulders that challenged us, but were also well within our range of capabilities. He taught us safety techniques and how to properly spot our fellow climbers. Jaden's the guy! But also, Aron and the whole crew were great to work with, and they're the type of people that we all root for to succeed. read more

We had an awesome time rock climbing with Stone Adventures. I went with my husband and 3 y/o and 9 y/o kids. Brad was an awesome guide and really tailored the experience so that both my kids enjoyed it. He set up challenging climbs for the fearless older one, while the much more wary younger one did easy climbs or climbed together with my husband. The company was very easy to work with. Highly recommend! read more

Our guide Jaden was amazing! He was great with my daughter and super safety conscious. Thanks so much!

I had a great time rock climbing with Aron in Joshua Tree in July. I'm a fairly experienced gym climber with some experience rock climbing outdoors. This was my first time hiring a guide. I had a weekend in Palm Springs and I wanted to go to climbing in Joshua Tree, but didn't bring any rope or the gear to set up anchors. I was also a bit nervous about climbing in Joshua Tree over the summer given the heat, but I decided to give Stone Adventures a call. Aron picked up the phone and talked with me for a bit. In the summers, he typically does a half day from 7am-11am. True enough, even though it was the middle of July, it was only about 80 degrees at 7am and in the 90's around 11am. Nowhere near the 115 it was in Palm Springs that day. Aron picked a crag close to the parking lot and we spent pretty much the entire time climbing in the shade, so the heat really wasn't too bad. Aron was a swell guy, really easy to talk to, gave solid beta when I was stuck, but never rushed me and let me do my thing when I wanted to figure out the route. I ended up climbing a whopping 14 routes between 5.8 and 5.10 in 4 hours, with a good variety of slab and vertical crack. 10/10 I would definitely book with Stone Adventures again if I'm ever in the area. read more

We had such an incredible day with Connor. We went bouldering, and he took us to private, GREAT spots! We felt like we had the whole park to ourselves, even though it was a busy day. He was an excellent guide, consistently encouraging us and moving the crash pad around, present and ready to help out if we felt stuck and celebrating our top outs! We loved his stories of traveling and climbing. I felt like I was back on the road traveling around climbing. I hadn't climbed in a long time, but I never felt frustrated with my abilities, he took me to the perfect boulders for my abilities now and I felt GREAT. He even knew just where to take us for a scrambling adventure through chasms that I asked about that was super exciting. Book with these guys, they have excellent, attentive, encouraging awesome guides. Thanks Connor! read more

LOVED our time spent with Stone Adventures! There were 7 of us celebrating a bachelorette all at different climbing levels from brand new to experienced and our instructors Justin and Alex did an amazing job balancing us all. Not only were Justin and Alex super informative, helpful and encouraging, they were so fun and took but took safety seriously. We all learned A TON and each achieved more than we ever thought we could. The price point was great and hands down I'll be back to climb again with Stone adventures. read more

I talked to 7-8 major rock climbing companies around Joshua Tree and we decided to go with Stone Adventures for several reasons: - Aaron and Annie are really nice, this seems to be a small company focused on giving their customers a good and safe time rock climbing. - I asked Aron what makes their company different than the others - he said they're focused on getting good service and getting the most climbs. - They gave us a discount for a private half-day trip, $100 down from $115. They were able to do this as we were going on a weekday. (This is on the more affordable end of the companies I called. There was a cheaper one, but I just got a good vibe from talking to Aron and Annie.) Here is where they are similar to most companies: - Flexible on climbing site, and they can meet you at your campsite which is awesome. - Half day is marketed at 4 hours, but they usually spend 4-5 hours with you. - Rental equipment is included in the cost. We loved our experience with Aaron because: - He was prompt - arrived at 7:55am, 5 minutes early, right at our campsite. - He was a great teacher and really patient with us. We had varying levels of experiences. - I asked if I could scramble to the top with him to learn a little bit about the anchor set up and he was really nice about that. - Despite our group probably taking longer than others (we're pretty chatty, plus figuring out everyone's gear and me wanting to see the anchor set up with Aron), we each still got 4 climbs in. I got a 5th one in at the end, and this was almost at 1pm when we'd been with him for 5 hours! - Even after 1pm, we wanted group pictures and Aron hung out with us to be in our shot and also to take some photos and videos with us. I think he left well after 1:30pm. Thanks for a great day, Aron! We had a blast. I will highly recommend your company to anyone coming to J-Tree in the future. read more

Amazing climbing experience w/ Stone Adventures in world famous Joshua Tree. I can't say enough nice things about my guide, Brad. We had a great time with Justin. It was a fun day of crack climbing and Justin definitely challenged us to push out of our comfort zone. He was great at making adjustments and reading the ability level of my boyfriend and I as well as changing plans when our first climbing site got a little crowded (it was a beautiful Sunday in the park so many locals were on routes as well). Stone adventures was great with communication and they make the whole experience easy. The experience made the trip and we hope to be back soon. read more

Incredible Experience! Aron and his crew know exactly the amazing places to take you in Joshua Tree to have the thrills and amazing views. It was totally exhilarating, rock climbing and rappelling these insane rock formations but you always felt like you were in great hand, always safe. And both Aron and his guides are easy going, great to chat with, fun and energetic. I took a group of my guy friends for my bachelor party. This is great to do in small or big groups. I work as a travel advisor and tour operator myself, and I know a well run operation when I experience it. It's not corporate and stuffy (god, how lame for a rock climbing outfit if it is) but it's professional. Which is important when you're doing an activity like rock climbing. It is the perfect balance of fun, thrilling and professional. I will be sending my clients to Aron for sure :) read more

I was nervous to try climbing again, even though I had done it a few times when I was younger (I'm 40 now). Annie from Stone Adventures took my wife, her sister and I out and we had a blast. My wife had never climbed before and she was really nervous, after the first ascent she was ready for more climbing! Annie is an excellent instructor and definitely made us all feel comfortable with the process. Over the course of three climbs we each became more and more confident. By the end of the day we were already planning our next trip with friends. I highly recommend Stone Adventures if you are considering a climb in Joshua Tree, you will not be disappointed. read more

I reserved a half day rock climbing excursion for my husband. Since it was a birthday surprise, I had so many questions that I couldn't ask him. I've been wanting to get into outdoor rockclimbing since I started climbing at the gym around 2 years ago, but I've never had the opportunity to do so until last weekend. Initially my friend and I were going to "wing" it and figure out what we could from the internet, but thankfully my boyfriend talked us out of that and advised us to take a class with a climbing guide for our safety. I saw Stone Adventures advertised at our local gym and after reading about them and talking with Annie I realized taking a class with them would be the best route for me. I ended up taking the class with a group of 7 other friends and Stone Adventures was very accommodating. They gave us our own private class on Friday and on Sunday which was perfect! We learned how to build top rope anchors on Friday and were building our own anchors and climbing on our own Saturday!! Our guides Alex and James were AMAZING. They were friendly, fun, and taught us many different types of anchors in a manner that was relatively easy to remember. I highly recommend them! Our class on Sunday with Alex was also excellent and we learned how to sport climb and repel outdoors, which was challenging but fun! We are looking forward to putting those new skills to the test on our next trip out to Joshua Tree in a couple weeks. Thanks so much Stone Adventures for teaching us what we needed to know to climb outdoors, you guys rock! read more

What a great day. Our guide Annie was amazing. Our 9 year old daughter absolutely loved it. Definitely recommend Stone Adventures! I went rock climbing with some friends for my birthday. I mentioned to them that I wanted it to be a fun adventure but still challenging since we're an athletic group and paying a decent amount for the trip. I felt that they catered the climb to their client's wants/abilities and were accommodating when we showed up a little bit late. Alex was a fab host!! Super informative and experienced with the area and climbing. Loved his rock puns and his ability to keep up with our East Coast banter! Can't wait to climb again! read more

Great experience with Stone Adventures - did two private courses with Yolan (anchor building and intro to trad climbing) and one continuing education day with Tamas. Both were great guides. Yolan is a very knowledgable and enthusiastic guide - always happy to share bits of knowledge about the history of climbing, the history of the park, gear, etc. and very generous with his time. The owners - Annie and Aron - were very responsive and made sure the days were well planned and would meet my expectations. Highly recommended. read more

My boyfriend and I couldn't have had a better experience! Our guide was Yolan Caballero, he is truly an expert in the field. He had many stories to share about the history of the sport, it was almost like we we're in a documentary about rock climbing and we we're acting out climbing montages hah! We started the say climbing at Quail Springs to warm up where he explained many tricks and talked about the type of stone and techniques of climbing Joshua Tree. It was very cold that day (~50F) so after that he suggested we move a bit to heat up, a great idea! He took us to Hidden Valley where we scrambled through the Chasm of Doom. This was SO much fun and such an unexpected surprise! We would not have made it safely through on our own but with his specific instructions we navigated our way through the chasm with joy and not fear or pain. After that, we headed to more climbing routes of higher difficulty. I really feel like I got to push myself on the chosen routes. It's like he prescribed the perfect ones! For the final course we repelled through the Cyclops's Eye which felt very daring! He even spent extra time with us to make sure we got to do so many activities. We had a great time talking all day about climbing, the history, and the geology and biology of the park. Yolan has a breadth of knowledge and his passion for the outdoors is contagious! If you're looking for an unforgettable and fun experience, I highly recommend Stone Adventures! I can't wait to return again for more and bring my friends along! read more

Our family of 4 had a great time rock climbing in Joshua Tree with Greg as our guide! He planned a perfect set of routes for our range of ages and experience, and had everything set and ready to go when we arrived at the first location. Greg's enthusiasm for climbing was obvious, and I loved his approach with our kids - especially the youngest who is more cautious by nature. She was able to work up to things in steps as she was ready, and felt confident and accomplished at the end of our climbing day. Beautiful setting and a perfect, customized experience. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with both guides Aron and Annie from Stone Adventures during the Climb Smart 2015 festival in Joshua Tree National Park. Out of all of the guides that I worked with throughout the weekend, Aron and Annie were easily the most passionate about teaching their art and sharing from their vast knowledge and climbing experiences. I felt very safe with them as my instructors. Not to mention, they were great to just hang out with as well. The clinic I had with them focused on everything and anything to do with knots. I was taught a plethora of different knots, hitches, and theory of how, when, and why they work. Both guides presented these teachings in extremely approachable, and easy to follow instruction for myself, and the other attendee's. Through practice during the clinic, I felt like I left with a strong understanding of all of the information that was provided to me. I will definitely be pursuing future guiding services through Stone Adventures, whether it be in Joshua Tree, or other parks. I want to further my exposure with anchors, pro placement, and eventually leading trad. Now that I know what to expect, I'd feel very confident learning any of these things with the experienced guides from Stone Adventures. I had a seriously awesome time, and can't wait to get back out there! read more

First class, nice guys. Greg Petliski and Kyle were patient and positive with my family of 5, which included a 13-year-old, and 11-year-old and a 7-year-old. They thought about what we would need and tailored the experience to us. As my family gained experience and confidence during the day, they even moved us to a place that was more difficult to accommodate. It was about a 1 mile hike from the parking lot to the first rock we climbed and throughout that time Greg was talking to us about the history of the wildlife and the plants, showing us as we saw various specimens on the trail. We really appreciated the educational tour which was obviously above and beyond rock climbing. Although I did give them a nice tip, they were definitely not doing it for the money. They were a bit less expensive compared to another place in town which touted a gourmet lunch. I'd much rather pay significantly less and bring my own lunch. I made wonderful memories on this rock climbing thanks to our guides. read more

i dont often leave reviews on yelp but i had to tell everyone what a great time we had with justin our guide. first of all, we were an hour and a half late that morning for a trip thst was supposed to be from8am to 4pm and he ended staying with us until 630pm! above and beyond. the trip was fantastic, he was able to do exactly what we wanted, we hiked and scrambled deep into the uninhabited parts of j tree for some peaceful climbing away from the crowds. we even saw some bighorn sheep and learned all about the wildlife out there! he was very encouraging and helped us do things we didnt think we were capable of. besides that, hes just an all around easy going nice guy that you just want to grab a beer with afterwards. we hope to do it again soon! read more

Though I had been climbing a few times before, I didn't have any gear and I had forgotten most of what I had learned. After explaining my ability level via email, we decided a private half-day climbing lesson was the best fit for me. A lot of my friends climb and I'd like to get better at it, so this was a bit of a test for me to see if it's something I could actually get into. At no point did I ever feel nervous, and Aron was super patient and supportive.
