Felipe's encouragement and positive attitude had us all climbing rocks we thought were impossible at the beginning of the day. After my wife's first ever rappel, she exclaimed, "That is one of the coolest things I have ever done in my life!" And we're done some pretty cool things. We spent a whole day climbing with Flux Adventures, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get an amazing climbing experience at Joshua Tree. Our guide Felipe went out of his way to make our trip as memorable as possible. At the beginning of the day he asked us what we wanted to do. Every climbing location we went to was very different, we did everything from smear climbing and cracks, to jugs, overhangs, and bouldering. I was impressed with the variety he was able to show us, and would not have been able to put together anything like it on my own. At our request he also taught us about setting our own top rope anchors, proper safety techniques for outdoor bouldering, and how to read guide books (for when he's not around). The highlight for me was when I mentioned how cool it would be to have photos from the top of the cliff we were climbing looking down. Felipe offered to climb up and take those pictures for us as we climbed up. The shots he got were amazing, and wouldn't have been possible without Felipe there. Overall, our time with Flux Adventures and Felipe was the highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend this to anyone. P.S. It doesn't hurt that Felipe is also super handsome. =) read more

I had a chance to climb at Joshua Tree while on a business trip with a friend. The time, place and routes were planned. DONE. The time comes, as did a phone call, " I can't make it, but I have hooked you up with Felipe". What?! Wait.... 1.) Are you okay? 2.) Who is Felipe? " An amazing climber. He is beyond capable and has a lot going for him. He has a big trip planned this spring for Madagascar. You are going to have a great time." I am beyond grateful that my partner has set me up with a climbing partner, but sad to hear that my friend is not well. But a good climbing partner doesn't bail. I call Felipe, a stranger to me, but he was expecting my call. No answer. ::::Sigh::::, hopefully he will respond to my message. 8:37 a.m. (the next morning) "Lisa? It's Felipe...." "FELIPE!" (Yessssssssssssssssssss!) Pleasantries exchanged, plans were made, details were to be worked out... Climbing was set to happen that weekend, no questions, just come and we are going to climb! Originally, I wanted an alpine start (3-5 a.m.), but this guide knows when the sun rises. My mile wide grin met his assured stare at 7 a.m. in the Joshua Tree Information Center parking lot. His hand is stretched out with a smile that read " this is going to be some fun". We chat, load gear and personal possessions into his truck and head out. We head into the desert, pull into a parking lot and discuss who we have in common, shiny gear vs. not so shiny gear, future plans and what I climbed the day before. He looks surprised and states "in that case, I am bringing my climbing shoes". We head down a windy, dusty trail to a sweet crack line heading right, three pitches up. He glides up the wall. Did he touch the holds? Wait, Does he even know that he is climbing? Did he say that he typically climbs in his approach shoes!? No wonder his movement is effortless, as were his responses to all that I asked of him. He challenged me to answer my own questions, some of which, I could not. Thank you Felipe, the answers are embedded in my memory, essential tools for climbing. We summit, have a chat, exchange snacks and I snap photos of a landscape foreign to any east coast visitor during the month of February."How do you feel about scrambling over some rocks to the other side to do some more climbing". SOLD! We scramble and I rappel into a popular climbing destination, but not enough to turn me away. The lines are many and read "fun". Felipe knows how to make the most of a time crunched day. A flight needed to be made by 7 p.m. at LAX, and I wanted to get in all the miles I could. 4 lines are ascended, 7 total, all between 8 am and 1 pm. SOLID. More than what I could have made happen on my own. We had loosely decided the best time to finish. Once back to the car, I sadly realized that I needed to get on the road. Did I accomplish all that I wanted? YES. Did I see more than I would have on my own. YES. Did I get to meet up with an accomplished, dedicated, skilled climbing partner. YES+++ This opportunity doesn't happen all that often when a partner has to bail. What type of partner hooks you up with another A++ partner...not many, but mine did. I was out there, hanging, much like a bird on a wire. But I was very fortunate to have met and have climbed with Felipe, a professional who is going to continue onward and upward, effortlessly, as he already does. read more

What a wonderful way to experience Joshua Tree! From the first email, Felipe was very attentive and thorough. We booked a day of rock climbing. In advance, Felipe made sure that he knew what we wanted to get out of the day, and that we knew what we needed to bring. We were supposed to meet at 9 AM. We got to the meeting spot about 10 minutes early, and Felipe was already there. We continued on to another climbing spot, and got ready! This was our first time climbing outdoors, and Felipe had a bunch of tricks and tips for us, and planned a day that included everything we were looking for (cracks, overhangs, bouldering, and learning how to set toprope anchors). We went to four different sites over the course of the day - which lasted until almost 6:30. He wasn't kidding when he said we could climb with him until we were too tired to do any more! Felipe's easy manner and encouraging attitude made climbing with him a wonderful experience. Three of us climbed with Felipe for two days in Joshua Tree and had a blast! We're primarily sport and gym climbers so we needed help navigating Joshua Trees hardcore trad routes. He did a great job setting top ropes and leading routes that matched our skill level; including a multi-pitch. I think we got a lot more out of our time having Felipe guide is to the goods. My wife and I spent a day with Felipe climbing. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Joshua Tree. He took us to some great climbs that were challenging for us and taught us how to climb on the granite in the park, which is very different from where we have climbed in the past. "Trust your feet!" was the refrain of the day as many of the climbs had few handholds and our feet did hold us. Bring shoes you can climb in for hours because he will provide you with as much climbing as you can handle. We would highly recommend Felipe as a guide to an adventure you will truly enjoy. Just had a great day in Joshua Tree learning about setting protection from Felipe. Totally lovely person and a great teacher. We hadn't planned ahead and had to work out a plan with him through a series of missed calls due to limited service in the park but he kept trying to reach us until it worked and adapted his schedule to fit us in and offered to bring whatever equipment we needed, totally professional. My climbing partner was more familiar with trad climbing skills but she was surprised to learn a ton from him too. I would recommend him for beginners as he's very patient but also for advanced climbers that want to get better fast and avoid learning bad habits from your friend's brother's roommate who mostly climbs at the indoor gym. We ran into Felipe the next day too and he insisted that we hop on a route he had just set up, happy to share the love even on his day off :) read more
