    Big Dipper and Joshua Tree

We had the pleasure and privilege of taking this tour on 7-16-2022. Our Star guide, Adam was wonderfully informative and strove to answer all of our questions. Here's a picture I was blessed to take at the end of the evening.

Full moon in Joshua Natl. Park

Sky Watch Star Tours is a great tour allowing you to experience the greatness of our cosmos and the beauty of the night in Joshua Natl. Park. Our guide, Allen, was excellent and share his independence knowledge of the stars using the 10" Telescope. The views of distant galaxies were awesome. The views of the moon were also beautiful. He also provided some nice treats to ward off the night chill. We will definitely book another tour when we return to this area. Please pay close attention to the company's directions to your tour site and don't try to find it in the dark.

The first 2 trips were put together by an employee who has since retired; she was incredible, very responsive, had everything squared away for us. This 3rd trip was put together by Guillaume Van Wyck at Great Safaris. The accommodations were excellent and we'll be returning to Kenya to several of them. The overall trip was really great, and was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as we anticipated. HOWEVER... communication from Great Safaris was not good. I had to email repeatedly to get answers to questions. Information about obtaining visas was non-existent, and when we had issues, we got a last-minute email that would have been helpful earlier. A hot-air balloon excursion in the Serengeti wasn't scheduled for us (even though we paid for it), so we didn't get to take it; Great Safaris did refund our money, but we wish we could have taken the excursion. Serious mistake on their part. Questions about scheduling went unanswered; we didn't get itinerary times until we were in Africa, and only by asking the people at the lodges. Great Safaris should have provided all of that to us. All in all, we would recommend a safari trip for anyone loving animals and a truly amazing experience. BUT WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GREAT SAFARIS.

As it is open to the public, it's also a venue for high level convenings and international diplomacy. The estate has been a retreat for US presidents and a convening place for world leaders since 1966. My first time here which I have heard quite a lot of things about this place. It's kind of hidden with only the sigh out front along the driveway. Hidden behind the walls, as you drive through the gate along the long driveway with the well maintained cactus garden landscape. You come upon the spectacular estate. The entire property is very well maintained with loads and loads of cactus and garden plants. The main building, information right when you walk in, a beautiful lobby that looks out to the most amazing garden and grassy knoll, gift shop, cafe and the museum. Besides the property which is free to check out and walk through the gardens, they also offer a guided tour of the estate which I believe is with a driven golf cart. Right when you walk in the museum is to the left side of the main building. The lobby is right in the middle which looks out to the garden. Cafe, gift shops and restrooms is to the right. Cafe does have outdoor seating but it was quite hot today. Once you walk out to the garden, the massive grassy knoll is the focal point. I'm sure loads of amazing events have been held here. The gardens are all pretty much desert plants as you are in the desert. Two beautiful water feature on both side as you walk out. Just wandering through the gardens which are path is quite relaxing. Bench are placed throughout for seating and just enjoying this property. As you drive in, both side of the driveway is part of the garden as well. There's a wildflower garden which looked pretty massive from the maps was still under construction. But the other gardens are spectacular. It's amazing how something so beautiful is just tucked away behind a wall. The mid century property is literally Palm Springs architecture at its best. This place is worth checking out as it's free. A nice wander and enjoy what Palm Springs has to offer and learn some things.

The tours were either sold out or had one spot available. There were 2 of us. I would recommend purchasing tickets online before you arrive to Palm Springs because of the popularity of the tours. You cannot purchase tickets by phone, email or in person. There are no waitlists either. We walked among the garden area, visited the small but great gift shop, watched the movie about Sunnylands and viewed the current exhibition. The next time we're in the Palm Springs area I will definitely plan ahead and purchase tickets way in advance.

So I joined the caravan, piloted by Michael Stern, a scholar and expert on the subject. He guided us on a curated tour of fascinating places that made me realize Palm Springs is unique in the American experience, a world unto itself. Seeing the design sophistication of these homes was life-changing for me; I felt Palm Springs was the place I'd been looking for, and have begun looking at homes there. Michael's tour inspired me, and made me see the world differently. Don't miss it.

We did the Joshua Tree UFO tour outside the park. We even dressed up with tin foil hats and our dog in a ufo costume to really get into the mood. The first half of the tour was very very cool and we had a lot of fun. There were many interesting stops and we saw a lot of cool stuff. Here's where I think can be improved. The second half of the tour puts you way farther on a dirt road than feels comfortable. If you have an off road vehicle it probably would be way better. Unfortunately my car didn't fare so well. What really sucked is you cannot skip a clue unless you are basically on top of it. I would have loved the option to skip a clue entirely without having to be so close or travel to that spot at all. We weren't comfortable traveling further into the desert, and with no option to skip we ended up giving up.
