    Star Trails!

I took two workshops --Milky Way and Perseid Meteor Shower-- and both exceeded expectations x 10! Casey Kiernan is a a fantastic instructor. He is very knowledgeable about landscape, sunset, and night photography. He has the skill to work with all levels of photographers from beginners to seasoned photographers. In just a few minutes, he had our group shooting memories of a lifetime! His knowledge of Joshua Tree is second to none. He knows the places where you won't be in the middle of a crowd. For the most part, we had the entire park to ourselves. Casey has also simplified Lightroom editing to a science. These workshops were priceless. In just minutes, we learned how to make our pictures sizzle. It was amazing. No one left without a collection of awesome photographs. His bed and breakfast felt like home. His home is very comfortable and clean. He had everything you needed included an award winning banana bread! We had great and affordable meals for lunch and dinner in Joshua Tree. He's a local and every knew him. All in All a 5-Star experience. I'm already planning my next workshop with Casey. Thank you CASEY!

Great workshop and excellent instruction by Casey! I stayed for 3 nights and 4 days and had a great time at the B&B. B&B is close to restaurants and stores if you need to get supplies or just want to venture around. Comfortable and clean rooms. Casey was a great host and knew the area and people very well. He was very accommodating. Workshop: The workshop was great. We ventured in to different areas of the park and Casey was very knowledgeable on the eco system of the area and knew all of the right spots to get the great shots all while teaching me about some of the local plant life, history, and wildlife. I was there for one specific shot (which I got attached to this review) and that was really it but I came away with so much more including some awesome time lapse videos which were very easy to put together with Casey's guidance. I'm really looking forward to possibly another trip out with Casey to Death Valley and or Iceland. The Iceland trip looks amazing!!!!!

I had a great experience in the Weekend Photo Workshop. Casey was a great instructor and gave guidance on how to frame the best shots. He took us to different parts of the park so by the end of the weekend, we had photographed a number of different landscapes. The Lightroom workshop was super helpful in improving the shots. He runs the B&B from his house, which was lovely and clean and had a fun Joshua Tree vibe (including a 60's themed room!). All in all, a great weekend.

Amazing night sky workshop with Casey in Joshua Tree National Park!! I couldn't believe how much I learned from on-site camera tricks to Adobe post production. In one workshop he took me from zero night sky photography skills on my Sony Alpha A6500 to the panoramic Arch Rock shot attached. I stayed at the B&B at the main location. Their homemade breakfast banana bread was awesome! Everything was professional, comfortable, and safe. Looking forward to another one!

Casey had designed the most amazing workshop. It's a small group which means he had time to work with each photographer. On my trip there were beginner and advanced photographers and he took his time with each of us. We practiced landscape, sunset and then milky way and star trails! It was awesome! We spent the next morning editing, learning tips and tricks. It was amazing and I feel like I was able to learn so much about my camera! Thank you Casey:)

I attended a JTW weekend workshop and stayed in their cozy B&B which made easy access to the workshop and park entrance. This was my introduction to landscape and night time photography. I'm an amateur street photographer using a 4/3 camera so I wasn't sure how much progress I would make. But Casey is an excellent mentor and perfect guide to getting to the off-the-beaten-path park views and to exploring the JT community. I finished the weekend with some keeper shots, a better understanding of how to use LR, and met some fun people. Highly recommend!

I have written three emails via their website over a month. They never respond. I am not sure if they are in business or what.

Practical, informative, hands-on, single flash photography class!…read more My friend and I want to learn how to use single off-camera flash to enhance our photography skills. I checked around the Irvine/LA area. Most classes don't offer this type of class, and if they do, the classes are not held often. I found Peter Phun Photography through Yelp, and decided to give a shot and contacted Peter. Immediately, he was able to arrange the workshop the following weekend! Wow. The class was held at Back to the Grind: 4 hour total. The first 2 hours was presentation, and then it was hands-on practice with models. For a class less than 5 people, he actually had 2 models came in, and had 3 settings. He was patient in explaining the principles and allowed us to play around. I didn't have a camera, and Peter lent me his Canon - very thoughtful and kind. Just for a comparison: another friend took a studio lighting class in the Bay Area. There were at least 8 people, 1 studio setup, 1 model, and hardly any private time to shoot with the model. I highly recommend taking Peter's class.

But I knew I could do better and get more out of my camera. Peter Phun is a professional photographer who used to work at The Press Enterprise. I'm a big fan of his work. When I saw he was having a basic DSLR class for beginners, I jumped on the opportunity. I took his one-day basic DSLR class and came away understanding the basics of how my amazing camera works, tips on photographing people, how to use available light, how to shoot things in motion and how to organize my photos once I got home. The class consisted of a "classroom" portion held at a coffee house in Riverside, a field portion shot at a motocross track, and a session with a free trial of Lightroom 4, where you learn how to organize and edit photos. Did you ever give any thought as to how you should name and organize photos once you download them? Peter will help you get set up so you can find photos easily. Peter is a patient, compassionate teacher who won't criticize you for not doing basic things you really should have done. Like reading the manual and studying the discs that came with your camera. I didn't, but he pretended not to notice. He also evaluates your interests and makes specific equipment suggestions. For me, it was a fast aperture 50mm lens. Also check out Peter's blog, where you will get lots of great tips from him and his fellow professionals on technique. Be sure to read the comments from other pros. http://peterphun.com/blog/ I'm looking forward to more basic classes from Peter. I highly recommend him if you are not a professional, but want to do more with that beautiful camera you bought and don't really know what to do with.
