Just took a Joshua Tree morning tour with Wendy. She was excellent and patient with my family. Since we got into the park a little after 8am, we were constantly ahead of the crowds. Overall we really enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend using them. And we paid about $100 per person for a private morning tour. That's pretty good value IMO! The selection of different activities was very low but that was because we booked the busiest time of the season, and only about 3 weeks ahead of time. Booking process was very smooth. The only issue I had was they were unresponsive to any type of communication beforehand. After I booked online, I wrote them and email asking for confirmation, as well as called them and left a voicemail. I received no reply. I almost thought I might have been scammed! Thankfully that wasn't that case. read more

We had a tour scheduled with a different company and they cancelled on us at the last minute. Joshua Tree Excursions put together an awesome private tour for our family of 9 at the last minute. The hike was beautiful and our tour guide Zarrin was so kind and knowledgeable. He was patient and instructional in helping the 4 kids we had with us as they explored the boulders. JTE put together an AWESOME tour so we could celebrate a milestone birthday under the stars! Wendy took us around the park, showing us amazing sights and knew so many fun facts about JT, the birds, the plants, etc. that she shared with us. We watched the sun sink behind the mountains (beautiful!!) and then met up with Jacob, astronomer extraordinaire!! Dinner under the stars was a memory neither I nor my three daughters will ever forget. And, Sunflower...wow! She baked my daughter's favorite kind of cake when the local store didn't have it! I was incredibly touched by her thoughtfulness. I won't try to recreate the star party...too overwhelming for words, but if you get the chance, ask Jacob to share his vast knowledge and telescopes with you! I'm not sure what an excursion *should* cost, but I feel like I got my money's worth that day/evening! And, one final testament: when Wendy dropped us off at our hotel, we all felt sad. Sad that the day was over, but also sad that our paths likely wouldn't cross again with this wonderful person whose company we enjoyed so much. read more

I don't recommend if you're a 12 year old, and trying to take advantage of the child price. She said my child did not in fact look 12 when clearly I'm the one who gave birth and went through labor with my previous 12 year old daughter. The hike was beautiful, although ALL of the staff member are TERRIBLE. They treated my family horribly. I still cannot believe the way that they treated my daughter and her friend. Two of the last workers even YELLED at them after they were using the restrooms. It is very clear they have no manners at all. And treat others poorly. read more

Quite simply outstanding. We signed up for the Sunset Hike and the Night Sky Presentation. Kelly of Joshua Tree Excursion was truly amazing. He has a vast knowledge of the entire park. He shared the parks rich history, the eco system and geology. He exceeded all my expectations. Especially noteworthy was Kelly's ability to interact with my 5-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter. He was very attuned to their questions and request. To an outside observer, he would have seemed like a loving uncle. This is something you can't put a price on. Kelly took our family on a kid friendly hike to Barker's Dam. On our hike he shared his knowledge of the vegetation along the trails. We went looking for the Big Horn Sheep and saw many of the local animals. Along the way, Kelly helped out other hikes find their way and he even took steps to pick up some rubbish left behind by some uncaring hikers. I can say without a doubt, Kelly is someone who loves his job and enjoys sharing his vast understanding of Joshua Tree with others. After our hiking was over, he took us out to a remote location to watch the sunset and enjoy an alfresco dinner. His cooking skills was right what the occasion called for...delicious. The second part of our tour was star gazing with "Starman" Steve. He has to be an expert among experts. He brought out his high-power telescope. With his telescope we able to see the moon up close, see Jupiter in high detail, see Saturn with it's rings and distant star clusters. During his presentation his gave us a tour of the constellations. Once again, the interaction with my kids was amazing. My kids came up with every "kid question" that they could think of and Starman couldn't have been kinder to them. I can't wait until I have a chance to visit Joshua Tree again and book another excursion with Joshua Tree Excursion. read more

Where do I start...We have never been to Joshua Tree before and thought a tour would be the best way to see it with the limited time we had. I spoke to Amy several times and she fine tuned us right in. Met with Matt in the morning and off we went. As a native Angeleno, I am ashamed to say that I just wrapped up my very first trip to Joshua Tree, despite all the great things I've heard. My boyfriend's mom planned a 2-day trip for four while she was in town from the U.K. She decided it would be best for us to hire a guide to show us through the parts of Joshua Tree that first-timers could never find on their own. Kelly and the Joshua Tree Excursions was the natural choice based off the amazing reviews. Finding someone certified in proper safety training, knowledgeable of the land, and personable certainly help too! The Communication prior to the trip was extremely prompt, clear, and he had us pumped for our hike. Lunch options were healthy AND yummy! Our group had some adventurers who were "all in" for difficult hikes, and not only did we have a comfortingly challenging route, it was equally scenic and peaceful! Kelly took us places where we were guaranteed not to see another human for hours, all while feeling extremely safe. Perhaps one of the BEST parts of it all, was you basically had the best of the best of a guide you could ever ask for. Not only does he know everything from the history of the land, but he knows about all of the agriculture, climate trends, and you can even pick his brain on existentialism if that's your thing :) He's such a smart guy it's impossible to leave JT without being an expert on everything from dead bodies buried throughout the park to geology and how JT was formed billions of years ago. Needless to say, you'd be doing yourself a disservice NOT to get a tour from Kelly or one of his stellar guides! I hear Starman Steve is a legend, btw. Zarrin and Steve were amazing!! Zarrin took us on the most unforgettable hike through Joshua Tree and was so knowledgeable about the biodiversity. Our minds were blown. To top it off, Steve, the amazing astronomer, was enthusiastic and equally knowledgeable and showed us the constellations, planets and many other stars with his high powered telescope. Wow, what an experience for my family of five. Kelly the owner arranged a 3 day Thanksgiving week trip for my wife and me and our 3 teenagers. He set up a fantastic camp site...most unbelievable and beautiful site I have ever seen...complete with gigantic boulder, a cave, and a 10 story high climbing wall that he used to teach my kids how to rock climb. Every detail was handled...the food, the reservations, the hiking. He toured us through the park and took us to a secret hideway that was up at a clifftop where our lunch was made and we were able to gaze out over the park....just spectacular. He also brought an expert on the stars and galaxies out to our campsite for a special star gazing night. The last highlight was an arranged visit to a wolf santuary...quite an experience. All this was a great time and experience for my family but the attitude and desire of everyone to make sure we had a great time was really exceptional. Great people and great trip. I am looking forward to another visit with these guys soon...one of my family's favorite trips of all time. Thank you guys! read more

Our family did the sunset hike, dinner and astronomy presentation. What an amazing experience! Zarrin was our guide and had so much information to share. We got to see a lot of cool things we wouldn't have even known were there on our own. Our kids (ages 8 and 11) loved the adventurous hike that took us scrambling up through the boulders and off the beaten path. It was a chilly and cloudy night, so we weren't sure the second part of the tour would happen - but Zarrin and Steve the astronomer not only made it happen, but made it awesome. Zarrin cooked us up a delicious, hot dinner and had plenty of blankets to keep us comfy. Steve was incredible in racing against the fast moving clouds to catch constellations and a couple planets in brief clearings in the sky. At one point the sky cleared enough for us to see the Milky Way. Steve was very engaging and animated, really made it fun. Definitely an unforgettable outing that I'd recommend to others! read more

Kelly arranged a map and compass class for me to give me skills before a solo backpacking outing in Joshua Tree. I was impressed with his commitment to my instruction. He took me off trail and he communicated to me many skills he had learned from his time as a guide and his time in the military. Joshua Tree was a big item on my bucket list, so I wanted to do it right. I didn't wanted to be around a bunch of tourists or do the whole park-see-a-lookout-drive-to-the-next-paved-path thing. But I also didn't feel equipped for real adventure. Joshua Tree Excursions was the PERFECT solution. They were super accommodating in planning the trip to make sure we got the right days and the right mix of experiences. We did our hikes with Justin who is SO, SO, SO awesome. He was training up Abby and we LOVED her too. During our day hike, we were mostly off the paths and didn't see another living soul for 4 hours. Justin found the most amazing little rest stops along the way and the food was spectacular (I know I was hungry, but I really do think it was the best sandwich of my life). Some clouds rolled in just before the star gazing part of our adventure, but they found a way to still make the most out of it - finding the breaks in the clouds to use the big ass telescope and filling our minds with incredible astronomy facts and stories. I had only one day to see this huge National Park. I am not a rock climber, nor did I want to do vigorous hiking. I know that Joshua Tree Excursions can provide these experiences, but I am more of a general tourist who enjoys visiting beautiful places and exploring nature. I wanted to get the best overview of this magnificent landscape without wasting time trying to figure out on my own the best itinerary, and also have a knowledgeable guide by my side to educate, inform and answer my zillion questions. Kelly delivered in spades. I invited a couple of friends to join me and we spent about 6 hours covering the highlights of JT. It was a pleasure to spend the day with Kelly, and I can say for sure that the experience of seeing Joshua Tree with someone who really knows the ground is so very worth it. I wanna go back! Even if you are just a "tourist" (like me), do yourself a favor and get the most out of your visit by letting Joshua Tree Excursions guide you. read more
