Our guide showing us a blooming Joshua tree.

Alicia was our guide - she is nerdy-smart about desert animals and plants, geology- all of it. Clearly she loves the desert and has inspired us to go back and learn more about the region. She listens well and can create a custom hike by gauging the group's interests and abilities. Four hours flew by. We 100% recommend them, especially if you only have one day to see Joshua Tree.

What a great experience! Six of us booked a sunset hike with Ethan. It was affordable and was way beyond my expectation. Ethan is a great guy. who knows so much about the park. As others have mentioned, he also does a fabulous job customizing the hike to your groups wishes and abilities. I would highly recommend booking a hike with Ethan!

This park is huge, but i didn't fully enjoy it. It just looks like desert without anything beautiful to look at. But if you like rocks, dry airs and bikes, this is definitely your place to go!

My friend and I wanted to visit Joshua Tree but only had less than a day to explore the area. A week prior to our planned visit, we looked online for tours and ended up contacting Ethan via email. His rates (per person) for a half-day guided tour (4-5 hours) were reasonable, and since we had read good reviews about his tours on TripAdvisor, we decided to use his services. Ethan was friendly, professional, and clearly knew the park very well. Our first stop was the Wonderland of Rocks (North/Central area of Joshua Tree Park), where we spent the morning hiking through sanded and rocky areas. Along the way, he pointed out interesting sights, including hidden pictographs and an equinox that we would have missed had we hiked the area on our own. He also knew quite a bit about the geology and formation of the area, and pointed out a bunch of cool looking cacti, trees, and lizards! Midway through the tour, he gave us a few options for the remaining hours. Either we could scramble up onto the rocks for a better view of the valley or hike on over to a few other sites. Now, my friend and I are not super athletic people, but we decided to try scrambling. Luckily, it was much easier than we anticipated thanks to Ethan. Not only did he guide us up rocks that were secure and had good footing (so it was a matter of following his tracks), but he was also willing to give us a hand or a boost up for more difficult areas (gaps, crevices, or steep inclines). If you love hiking and can handle a few large steps, I highly recommend you try scrambling! Looking back, scrambling was really THE highlight of my JT experience. The views up there are incredible and you truly feel at one with nature! Ethan also takes you to areas with the most scenic views and doesn't mind taking photos for you. Don't forget to also bring a few snacks to enjoy while you sit and admire the view! Overall, if you have a short time in JT, Ethan's tour the best use of your limited time. I walked away from our 4.5 hr tour feeling like I truly explored the area and understood the history/background of the park. Definitely give him a chance, you won't regret it!

Some top rope action in Joshua Tree

My friends and I recently spent a day with Ethan in Joshua Tree National Park. I've climbed in the park before, but some of my friends had never top-roped outdoors. Ethan did an excellent job explaining the basics, from knot-tying and spot checking harnesses to providing advice (and encouragement) on specific climbs. We moved around the park a bit throughout the course of the day, and he setup anchors on routes of varying difficulty so that everyone had a chance to climb. Ethan knows the layout of the park very well it's obvious that he has spent his share of time there. If you're relatively new to climbing and/or the park itself, I'd highly recommend using his services. He'll cater everything to the experience level of your group, and you're sure to get the most out of your time in the park.

Amazing day!! This is the type of personal adventure in Joshua Tree National Park that Ethan gives.

If I could give 10 stars I would! What a great day in Joshua Tree National Park!! Ethan led us on a half day adventure that was out of this world. He is very knowledgeable about the park and educated us on the geology, animals and plants of the area. He is very professional! I have to say this is one of the highlights of our 5 month tour of the USA! Don't pass up the chance to hike/rock climb with Ethan.

The number of cactus are in the thousands and the environment is totally unique from the rest of the national park. Get there on a Thursday if you can swing it. If you can't, get there at the crack of dawn on Friday. Campsites will probably be full, but if you have faith and perfect timing, you'll whine/pout in the car for awhile until you snag one as someone else is leaving. This ended up being the case around 6:30 am, when we tested our luck at Ryan Campground after Jumbo Rocks was full. Ryan Campground has 31 campsites. If a post has an orange envelope clipped to it, the site's taken. Otherwise, it's yours. Sites are fairly spacious and surround a cluster of boulders. We snagged #16 for $15/night. If it's a weekend, it's a guarantee people will be circling the grounds each day in search of a site and asking if you plan to leave. They will also approach you at night and ask for advice on a place to camp. If you're feeling altruistic, keep in mind it's 2 vehicles per site. Make sure to consult the weather forecast beforehand--what we thought would be a little breeze ended up being 30 MPH gusts of hell. We took the ominous warning from the state park ranger lightly, who devilishly giggled after saying "no, you won't blow away." We didn't, but our tent collapsed, as did 80% of the tents surrounding us. Amidst our elemental battle, a couple pulled up to ask if we were leaving. We weren't, but invited them to share our site with us. The 4 of us combined couldn't keep our tent upright against the wind. An hour later, a torrential downpour forced us to throw everything into the car and sleep in a hotel. We returned the next morning when the wind died down. The weather didn't deter anyone, the sites were still full. Our tent dried out during the day and we were able to have a great experience. Highly advise a night hike to Ryan Ranch, but bear in mind you may encounter desert stragglers who've ingested hallucinogenics. It's entertaining. No matter your experience of Ryan Campground, you're sure to come away from it with a good story.
