I didn't get windows from this company but I got weird "vibes" from every interaction I've had with…read morethem. They seem to insist that both you and your significant other be present for the inspection, although I have no idea why that even matters. We scheduled an inspection on the weekend so we could both be present and then when the inspection date came around they cancelled saying that they were "all booked up" or something, as if I wasn't the one that booked them. Why schedule an inspection time if you can't keep it? When I rescheduled for another inspection I tried to push them a little on the significant other thing so they would agree to schedule it during the day sometime. So I told them that I live with my partner but I solely own the house and that we aren't married, but the guy on the phone again just avoided giving me an exact reason why we both had to be there and we scheduled for another weekend. Today, the day I'm writing this, they called to confirm the inspection appointment tomorrow and asked me if it was an insurance claim, which it was, and then said something about how they weren't the best company for that because they don't provide the full scope of work to be done for the insurance company. When I asked them if that meant they weren't showing up tomorrow they pretty much said the exact same phrase back to me. I'm not *really* sure if that was them saying they weren't showing up tomorrow but it seemed like it; I guess I'll see tomorrow. What a weird company that seemingly will avoid any possibly confrontational topics about how/why they do business the way they do and only give you robotic, scripted answers about anything. I don't know why they would have waited until the third appointment confirmation to bring up the insurance thing if it tanks the whole process. I've gotten 2 other quotes from 2 other companies (Pella and Lowes) for this specific project and both of them were fantastic to work with, Lowes even got me a quote with just pictures of my damaged window. It seems like they just always come up with an excuse to not have to do any work.

For something so time-sensitive, that kind of delay is unacceptable. On top of that, after all the waiting, we were then told that our windows do not qualify for the rebate that was discussed earlier in the process. This was extremely disappointing and feels misleading, as this information should have been clearly communicated upfront before we moved forward. The lack of timely service and clear communication made this a stressful experience. I would strongly recommend that others get everything in writing and confirmed before committing, as this process did not go as promised.

Initially the company…read morerepresentative was quite responsive when detailing what needed to be done and what the cost would be. He committed to keeping the costs within the amount that would only require us to include our deductible amount paid to the insurance company. That was all we had to pay out of pocket. It did take Advocate four months to complete the work. The work was done professionally, and the workers did an excellent job on the roof and gutters that were replaced. One glitch did occur with the gutters, however. We had requested 6-inch gutters, and the workers installed 5-inch gutters instead. Apparently, there was a communications issue between our contractor and the gutter supply company. Advocate did get that corrected at no additional cost to us. Also, in a final walk through with the company representative we pointed out a couple of things that needed to be corrected. A trim piece had not been properly secured and an exhaust pipe that was to be painted was not painted. We have been waiting for those to be completed about three months now. At that time, we also requested an estimate on new trim to be installed around our garage door. We are still waiting for that too.

I was under the impression that these were direct employees of his, his crew. Basically he was acting as a general contractor that hired another company or hired some people looking for work. Not really sure here. I realize I made some changes, but they were clear and written in a revised proposal. I didn't want the doors painted, then I got a phone call that they were painted. Sure, he didn't charge me for this, but that is proper after all. I didn't want the trim painted, and paid for that, because I missed it in the proposal. My fault. They also painted the hardware for opening/closing the windows, those were metal and need the proper paint, I did have them take that off. The house didn't have flooring in, so I was asked about drop cloths, I said use them but don't worry too much about a few paint splatters. However, I did indicate that I wasn't removing the slate flooring and to be careful. Here is a big fail, many paint spots. He tried to have them clean it up. Now the floor is sticky, you can here the soles of your shoes and feel it too. He tried cleaning that up, when it wasn't done, he offered to do it again. I really felt he had done enough. I'm still trying to find a way to clean this up, because it's sticky any dust or what not sticks to it. It's really upsetting, as I loved this detail. I will look to bring in some professionals and see what this will set me back. There's also spots on the bathroom floors, which were also said that I wasn't removing. And those doors that were painted, they weren't dry and were closed, now that paint has popped off, so I have to touch that up, or maybe just start replacing doors. I realize also this review is a year since the work was done, I was in the middle of doing the rest of the work this last year. I almost considered them for doing the kitchen rehab. I really feel I dodged a bullet there. Noah, is a nice man, I think his intentions are good. However, the whole interior project was a mess, left me very frustrated, and I have projects left to do because of it. I don't think he checked up on the work as it was being done, and I don't think he looked at it after until I contacted him. Paint shouldn't have been on that slate, nor should you stick to your floor. I also had to point on paint spots on light fixtures, that should've been cleaned. Just no.

I logged onto my dad's Angie's List account, and I gave the top three contractors a call (this was on a Saturday). Within an hour Tom Priester, the president of Custom Discount Exteriors, returned my call and committed to coming out to take a look at the damage (I never received a phone call back from any of the other contractors). Tom came out and took a look at the hole in my siding, suggested electric company might be liable to pay for repairs, got the ball rolling on the claims process, and then preceded to do an emergency tie off free of charge in order to stabilize my power due to a big winter storm that was on its way (this was early January). Tom and his team then came out the next week, and repaired my vinyl siding. The first time they closed it up, there was still a squirrel still stuck in my walls, so they ended up coming out to re-open the hole, so that the thing could get out. All told, they came out three times, free of charge to open up the siding to make sure that no more squirrels remained in my walls. This saved me a ton on having to call an exterminator. The electric company ended up paying for the damages. but the bill was significantly lower than expected given the level of service and care that was provided. No need to go anywhere else just give Custom Discount Exteriors a call.
