Needless to say for a kid that has never really had an accident, this was going to ruin our day. Can you imagine a children's museum that doesn't have a gift shop. Worse yet, there really weren't any places we could get stuff to get him cleaned up. My wife yelped for Kid's clothing and LL Bean turned up not too far away. We walked over not sure if we would find anything. Taylor welcomed us and asked us how our day was going. I shared our situation while my wife rolled her eyes at me. I mean why skimp on details when you need an outfit fast and the sizing isn't what uou are used. Taylor found us several options of shirts. My son chose the purple t-shirt. She went back and found more pant sizes. He left in a pair of blue waterproof pants to go with his purple shirt. Taylor even told us that oddly thus happens and we aren't the first family looking for kids clothing after visiting the museum. Alas they don't sell underwear but it slvaged our afternoon and was enough to get him down for a nap. I consider that a WIN with a capital W. My wife found some traveling clothing as well because whe wanted to support the store as well. I really wanted to buy stuff as well but I run way too hot and it is September. The summer stuff is gone but there is always their website.

Why do they have this set up?! Otherwise, the selection is incredible- every brand plus their own DSG brand, which is good value for the quality. The whole store is huge. A giant concrete warehouse in Back Bay, it's kind of surreal and very cold and quiet. A big plus if you're downtown in the summer and looking for a vast dark space to decompress. The dressing rooms are great- they're all huge with big benches. Overall, this is a highly accessible store. A wheelchair or stroller can easily make it around. There are people around stocking and cleaning the fitting rooms, but otherwise you're blissfully left to browse with the option to ask if you need help. It is weirdly zen. Even with sales it is pretty spendy. They do have a lot of sales- easier to spot online- and their signature brand is lower price. If you walk over to the Nike store on Newbury it's the same price, so it just is what it is. I like the vibes, layout, and selection.

I went into Champs out of convenience, since I go through DTX on my commute. A salesgirl asked me if I needed help, and I told her I was looking for wide sneakers. Of course, they didn't have any, but there were a couple styles that looked like they had a wide toebox, so I asked to try them on. The salesgirl brought out a pair and without asking, replaced the sockliner with a special insole. Had she asked, I would have told her that I have very high arches and can't use insoles in most shoes. But she didn't. And when I put the shoe on I was really confused until I figured out her switch. Since I didn't want the insoles, she started telling me about the most amazing socks in the world, that she loves (and wasn't wearing). Oh, and the shoe protector. You have to have the shoe protector to keep those sneakers clean. I decided to buy the sneakers and a couple pairs of socks, but the salesgirl looked horrified that I wasn't getting the protector. "You know, the netting will get all dirty and you can't get it clean, right?" she said. When I replied that they were for my commute and I didn't care her face was a mix of confused and grossed out. I had to return the shoes and was barely acknowledged. The music was WAY too loud and the store was really hot both times. Not to mention the overstocked salesfloor with no room to move around and the filthy floor itself. I really like the socks I got, but I'm not sure that I want to brave the store to get them again.
