The inside is a mid-sized convenience featuring mostly junk food; it's clean enough and the bathrooms are in the acceptable tier as far as cleanliness and hygiene. No changing table for diapers in the men's room, though. Staff have been relatively friendly, for the genre, which is truly a plus. (Am I ever in a good mood when I have to go into a convenience? No. So this helps.) The bonus here, as ever, is it's got a Mini-Micro Dunkin on the inside. The strange thing about these micro Dunky's inside gas stations is they frequently have as many donuts as the smaller Dunkin locations, and they're all baked off-site anyway. You can't get sandwiches but if you're just jonesing for the brew plus a sinker, it's actually better since you can pick out your own instead of gesticulating madly. And I've never had Me not understand I want my coffee Black and medium and hot, unlike about half of the Dunky's employees I've run into.

The gas station was a lively place; I chose it over some closer station because Stewart's Shops topped New York on Gas Buddy's cleanest bathrooms map of the US. They're hiring and have a lot of cheerful hand-made signage to that effect. The bathroom *was* clean, and it smelled really good. Nice airfreshening Checkout wasn't so nice. I got there at a shift change, and there was some banter regarding someone who came a bit late. It was awkward for me, and when I paid with my card, the initiator (working the register) had already walked away. I collected my purchases and headed out. Seems like a nice place; maybe this is a one-off due to recent turnover.

The eyelids were heavy - and I desperately needed some caffeine. If you've ever driven I-88 across New York State - it is a long Interstate drive - with few and far between exits with anything for travelers. When I saw the sign for a Valero with a Dunkin' - it was liking finding an oasis! I went inside and ordered a cold brew. Man I could not fuel inject that cold brew fast enough! It hit the spot and got me through to complete the rest of my drive! #Valero

I gather they began in Saratoga Springs, NY, and moved into Vermont, as well. We tried this one across the street from the Saratoga Springs Hilton where we stayed, and it was very clean inside (according to my husband who went inside). I had also read they have terrific ice cream, so guess what, we tried some. I stupidly left it up to my husband to "surprise me," and while they are known for amazing flavor choices, and thinking he KNOWS how I like unusual and interesting flavors, he walks out with a mix of vanilla and chocolate. Are you kidding me? It was especially difficult for me to keep my mouth shut because I was pissed off, but he was kind enough to get it for me and bring it out, so I could just wait in the car. I have to say, though, I quickly went from anger at the boring ice cream flavors to extreme enjoyment because it was some of the BEST vanilla and chocolate ice cream I had ever eaten. Truly delicious. I was definitely thinking we'd get some different flavors at other Stewart's Shops in the ensuing days of our travels, but as many as we ended up seeing along our way, we never did stop at any. Don't know why, but we didn't, and so, this was our only time to enjoy their wonderful ice cream !! Next time we are in the area of a Stewart's Shop, I will make sure we can get more ice cream. The ceilings are high and the parking lot is shaded, giving it an oddly stately ambience. And it's less crowded so more chance to grab a seat when I come in for my deli dogs. Stewart's headquarters is nearby in Greenfield, and the Dake family is a big supporter of local groups and activities.
