With tax, the total came to $5.94. When I pointed out that the sales tax should be $0.40, not $0.94, I was met with disbelief and outright hostility. The employees insisted that the $0.94 was the correct tax, despite it clearly being an error in their system. Instead of addressing the issue, the two employees--both of whom were of a different race than I am--ganged up on me. Their behavior quickly escalated from rude to what felt like a racially motivated attack. They repeatedly insisted "it's the tax," in a mocking tone, refusing to listen to any explanation. I was laughed at, ridiculed, and made to feel as though my concerns were invalid simply because of who I am. It felt like I was being singled out and demeaned based on my race. Eventually, they asked if I even wanted the drinks, making it clear they had no interest in resolving the situation or treating me with basic respect. What's even more concerning is that they claimed every customer is told "that's the tax" and no one ever complains. If that's true, then Cumberland Farms is potentially collecting illegal sales tax on thousands of transactions per day. Now that this review is public, if Cumberland Farms doesn't address this issue with these employees, they could be guilty of negligence and should be fined. I hope New York State gets their $0.94 tax on this transaction, which I doubt will happen under these circumstances. For reference, my receipt number is 221-2080, in case Cumberland Farms wants to do their due diligence and investigate. This was, without a doubt, the worst customer service experience I've ever had, and the fact that it appeared to be racially motivated makes it all the more unacceptable. Unbelievable that this is what customer service has come to today. I would recommend screening and better training of employee's zero stars if I could. This was definitely not about the 50 cents per transactions theft , but the principle of the matter .

I'm not as enthusiastic about the outside, however, and by that I mean the gasoline. When a Stewart's Shop does not have any immediate competition, they tend to have a price scheme for their gasoline of "whatever they can get." (The closest gas station is a Cumberland Farms about 1 mile south on US 9, but they probably already know anyone with a membership discount card will be going there anyway). I came here because I was low on gas, and I got just enough so that I could get to a Stewart's in a different area (Ballston Spa). Gas at this particular one was 13 cents a gallon more expensive than the one in Ballston. So, as I've said in reviews for other Stewart's Shops - get your gas someplace cheaper, and then bring your savings here to get the food and dairy products that you like.

This was a place I liked to come a few years back. They often had the cheapest gas in the area…read more(they sometimes still do) and the relatively cheap coffee was good (it still is). But the coffee used to be free the first of every month and it no longer is. The worst part of the decline though is in the inventory of snack cakes. Mrs. Freshleys used to reign supreme here, but now the shelf space has been fully usurped by Hostess and a few Pillsbury products. Poor substitution! There also used to sometimes be fresh baked local products at the front register but they haven't appeared for a long time. The quality of service has also not been as good as it used to be (when Chelsea was manager). While I will still sometimes get gasoline and coffee, I know longer hold the place in even slightly high regard. IMPORTANT CAVEAT: The good coffee comes from the metal urns, not the glass pots. They have an extra-caffeinated kind I usually mix with the others. Definitely don't expect good coffee from the glass pots!
