Steve's Mowing is the best. We have employed Steve's for over a decade and have always been satisfied with their work. We hired them because our previous lawns keeper used one of the big heavy deck mowers that always gashed sections of our yard. They would cut no matter if the ground was soaked or not. We don't have to ask Steve's to delay mowing if the rain has left our yard vulnerable to damage caused by mowers. They automatically wait a day or more if it is too wet to mow. They only use small mowers which do not damage the lawn and they cut the grass to the correct height. Our previous lawn service cut the grass too short which is bad for the health of the grass. Steve's has given us the best grass cutting service and continues to do so. We highly recommend them. read more

This company tried to scam me on the first mowing of the season. We had recently had our spring clean up performed, which included fertilization, lawn seeding and mowing. The grass took to the fertilizer very well and grew quite quickly during the three week period. We had been advised not to mow so as to let the seeds germinate during this time and strengthen the roots. I had attempted the week prior to ask Stevems mowing to come to start the mowing one week earlier given the grass growth, but the said they could not. Unbeknownst to us, a representative from Steve's mowing came to the property and "measured our grass" two days before our monthly mowing was set to begin. They did not ask permission to enter the property, did not tell us they would be coming, they just did. Even more horrendous was the phone call I received advising that given the length of the grass they would need to charger nearly $90 for the first mowing (essentially what I pay for 3 mowings). The representative was extremely rude to me on the phone and started yelling at me. I told him I would be cancelling services due to his behavior and asked him to leave my property immediately. I did call and leave a message with the help desk line and advised them of this individuals behavior. As a consumer, I may expect a slight surcharge for the first mowing but to nearly triple this amount is essentially highway robbery. I immediately called another gardener who said he would do the first mowing for a modest price increase and for less than what Steve's Mowing was charging on a weekly basis. This place tried to scam me into paying more and then when I told them that this seemed like a high price, immediately got defensive and that is when the verbal attacks started which led me to cancelling these services. Do not use this company at all costs. They are rude and will try to scam you out of your money at every chance they get. read more

This company is inconsiderate of surrounding neighbors as it relates to leaf season. Consistently for years regardless of Fairfax county's wish for landscaping companies as well as homeowners to find alternate solutions for leaf collections, they continue to blow leaves into the street over a month prior to the collection, then returning right before the collection, gouging the neighbor I might add; To again blow a 5 ft x 25 ft by 8 ft wide pile of leaves and to the street for the rest of the neighbors to deal with as the week continues on, not to mention the danger incurred by narrowing the road. It is not difficult for landscaping companies to view county collection boards so they begin no sooner than 10 days before the allotted pickup. Higher seasonal help to make that happen, all other businesses do that during periods of increased business. As well a responsible eco-minded business owner would help guide their clientele in a direction that supports the Counties request by offering to mow the leafs into the yard. That will generate business and incur lower overhead. read more

They started OK, but now do a poor job. Not worth the money. We hired Steve's mowing in 2019. They were OK at first, but starting in 2023, they've done a worse and worse job. 1. They've run over plants planted along a fence, even after we pointed out it was a hydrangea and should not be mowed. We had to pile bricks around them to kept them from being mowed, and even then sometimes the trimmer wacked them. 2. They skipped trimming long sections of our fenceline unless I was there to watch them. We almost cancelled this year, but we thought we'd give them one more chance. But they blew it. 1. They were supposed to start on the 25th, and did not come nor tell us that they were not. 2. They came today, even though it was raining, and only did parts of the lawn, skipping mowing the whole back yard, and part of the side and front. 3. They didn't do most of the trimming. Absolutely awful. And they raised their rates so we'd be paying more for worse service. No thanks. Good bye. At least now we know our hydrangea are safe. read more

I started using Steve's Mowing for mowing and lawn maintenance last year. I also get mulching and bush trimming. This year they came out and gave me a quote for mulching, but didn't mulch the back yard. Why would I ask for my yard to be mulched and only want the front yard done? Who does that? They mulched the back yard last year and stated that they could tell if the mulch in the back yard was theirs even though it was a year old. The estimator showed up at my house and all she could say was she was right. She had the time wrong that they were at my home; I should not be charged for the 20 minutes they sat in front of my home. She had they were there for 70 minutes, no 50. She picked up some mulch in the back year and never gave me an answer either way weather it was "Steve's Mowings" mulch because it was. She then found an error in her calculation of the estimate, but then said wait "no I am right". I asked her to cancel the service and she stated, "that is probably best for the both of us because we are as disatisfied we you as you are with us. You have a nice day". I told her I hoped she didn't and I asked her to get off my property. She lied. She never validated the mulch in the back yard because Steve's Mowing put it there. This company is very expensive, does 1/2 the job and it's employees are extremely condensending and rude. Beware the owner is rude as well. read more

Steve's Mowing was exposed for "rounding up" leaf removal fees as I was told directly from their supervisor Allison (cid Erin) and completely non-transparent in leaf removal cost components. She admitted they round up time for removal, I have footage of their crews chilling on the property while on the clock in the back yard. In the past they've been gracious in adjusting for issues but today Erin was on a mission to discontinue the relationship saying things like "I hope you don't treat your team like you treat us" (without an idea what team she thinks she's talking about) and "It's clear you don't trust us" and "you're the only customer that's had an issue". They removed a good portion of my neighbor's leaves at my cost which is not a particular concern but they sure don't account for that as their generosity. I also have them blow 75% of leaves into the woods vs collecting them but they insist on a flat fee per man/hr of total leaf removal effort regardless if collected. Speaking of Erin's comments on my team. I'd definitely fire her if she were on mine and customer facing based on the comments she made. Clearly immature and inexperienced. Also, don't randomly show up at someone's home without an appointment Erin/Steve's Mowing (completely ridiculous). To be fair I trusted the crews to do a reasonable job but for several years but it was the consistently poor accounting and lack of accurate time keeping that was the issue. They left a note on my door stating my estimate was ready but I had never heard of them so I caked to let them know they must have come to the wrong house. The last looked it up and stated that they didn't have my house on thier list, but she would have the owner come by the next day to straighten it out. When he came by he told me that he wasn't sure why there was an estimate for for my lawn care but that he could mow and trim it for me the next day for $40 if I liked. I asked if he could do it the next week, and he said that if he waited a week it would be an extra charge for "tall grass" so I agreed to let him mow and trim it the next day. He said that they have a weekly service that is 40 foals a week, for 25 weeks which was over 1000 for the summer and I told him know just the single visit for $40. Was fine for now. Someone came and mowed it the next day, didn't do any trimming at all and actually left all of the corners of my yard unmowed because they were on a zero turn and never got off. The guy literally rode the zeroturn off the trailer, rode it around my yard, drove it back up on the trailer and left. I was so glad I didn't agree to a year contract, it was a horrible job. Then, 2.5 weeks later I get a bill from them for $83. I CALL to find out wtf ? And the lady said there was a tall grass charge, and charges for shop fees and consumables.. I told her there was no way I was paying that. And that we had agreed to $40 for him to mow and trim that day, and he had been there the daybefore, there was NO WAY my grass grey that much in 24 hours. Also the lawncare person hey sent didn't trim anything, and left the corners and an entire section at the side of my house behind the patio unmowed. She said she would need to ask the owner to hold please, then she got back on and said they would drop the additional fees if I paid the $40 immediately, so I did a phone payment and thought it was done. Now, a month later, and I get a bill from these jack-offs for $43. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! I am positive that every high rated review is a family member or one of those services you pay to write good reviews their business. This lawn service SUX! read more

Steve's Mowing took over and I have had nothing but comments on how good my lawn looks all summer. Today they came out to get the leaves off the lawn and they once again exceeded expectations. I've had the mowing and lawn improvement services with them for a couple years now - including aeration, fertilization, weed killing, etc. I honestly feel at this point that they only try to make your front lawn look good. See the pictures.. the first two are my front lawn. The rest are the two side lawns and back lawn. Vastly different results! No, there is nothing different about shade, tree covering, etc. around my yard. Its very possible that they think homeowners see good results from their driveway and don't actually walk around the rest of their yard? read more

Won't even give me a quote. Owner said our best bet is to go with the one man band mowers because it would be too much time for his guys to mow our slope that has flowers on it. He said his guys would just mow over them. Sounds to me Steve that it isn't your guys that is the problem, it's the owner. How about offer a service that can help?? This is a morally bankrupt company. Do not do business with them. Two incidents come to mind: they shattered my home's storm door and tried to walk away like nothing happened. Only presented with video from my ring camera did they actually agree to reimburse. Secondly, I paid them for seeding and aeration. Noticing that absolutely no progress was being made in growing out dead patches on my lawn, I asked them what the deal was and asked a representative to come out and confirm the service had been performed. The rep confirmed it had not been. When confronted with the fact I'd been invoiced for a service that hadn't been performed, they only offered a credit and were surprisingly unapologetic. I have have fertilization done since 2019 and my yard is full of weeds. I have called many times and was told someone would come out to assess the specific weeds and treat my lawn again. General fertilization was done again, nothing specific to the weeds that I have. The woman who answers the phone is very rude. As the lawn outside my house is being mowed now, I thought I'd give a shout-out to Steve's Mowing, though I no longer live in Northern VA. I used them for three seasons before moving & had generally good results. I lived in a small mid-unit townhouse, so my lawn was postage stamp size. They send three guy crews & were generally gone in 15 minutes. I was satisfied with the price ($30 bi-weekly) + a modest monthly fuel charge, even after the price of gas fell off a cliff from when I started. My one gripe was getting a handle on when they'd be there during a rainy week. We had a tent up in the backyard, at times, and naturally, need to take it down for the guys to mow. I wasn't always able to get that straight with the office. I also used their added services such as fertilizer, feeding & aeration. I can't really judge that as my lawn usually looked OK in Spring & dreadful by the end of Summer. But as everyone knows there - the soil isn't really soil, it's mostly clay. And I was never good to determine if I over-watered or under-watered. But the bottom line is that they were reliable & did a nice job for me. read more

One word - fantastic! We hired Steve's Mowing again this year to clean up our yard for the summer because of the great job they did last year. And just like they did last year, they did an outstanding job! They cleaned up all the leaves, weeded all the beds, cut new edges around the trees and beds, and put down new mulch. Very Disappointing. Although they don't insist upon a seasonal contract, they do insist on coming EVERY.SINGLE.WEEK unless explicitly told not to. My grass just doesn't grow that fast. Other services are much more flexible. It is a real hassle trying to rememer to call them every other week to cancel the next week's service. My house is on a gentle hill with a walk-out basement. Steve's Mowing was fine with mowing the flat accessible part of my lawn in the front (ie the part I can easily mow for free), but tended to cut corners and "forget" to carry the lawn mower down the steps to the back to mow the backyard (ie the part I'd rather pay someone else to do). Unless I was there to watch them, they would try to just swing a weed-wacker around every now and then and charge the same for mowing. I'd end up with uneven patches of grass in the backyard and the remaining rogue dandilions always gave them away. Then there were the leaves. Their idea of dealing with leaves was to blow them all into my flowerbeds around my lawn and then later charge me by the hour to remove those very same leaves from those flowerbeds. Mulching leaves while mowing the lawn seems to be an alien concept, perhaps because it takes longer. And unlike the other review, I had poison ivy in my back yard and they neither spotted it nor offered to do anything about it (probably because they spend so little time back there). Lastly, just as they often "forgot" to mow my backyard and then charged me for it in the past, they recently "forgot" to aerate my back yard as well. This was the final straw. They didn't even bother to move the hose in the middle of the yard before they left. Instead, they just sprinkled seeds around and ran off. Again, paying someone else to carry the heavy equipment down to my backyard and mow/aerate was the VERY POINT of hiring them in the first place. If it were easy, I'd do it myself -- for free. There seems to be a serious disconnect between services charged and services rendered by Steve's Mowing and I feel like their crew has cut one too many corners in my yard. Other lawn services actually do what they're paid to do for the same price. read more

During the 3 years I had Steve's Mowing Steve's service got progressively worse. First year they were great; however, the next two years they would consistently not trim sections of the yard and I even caught them billing for weeks that they were too busy and did not show. Yep, they apologized and corrected the billing, but they really should not bill if they do not show. By the third year (last year) my side yard and driveway near my car-port became gnarled with saplings because of lack of trimming and mowing, and even some of the side yard looked unkempt and overgrown. I had to threaten them with a better business bureau case to get them to fix it. read more

I like that Steve's bags the grass and uses small mowers but the guys were so careless, they hacked up my fence with the line trimmer and dented my lamp post with the mower. I expected better. I have used Steves Mowing on and off since 2007. I am extremely disappointed with this company. Last year I had my cenent pavement replaced with sod that went up to the vinyl siding of my home. The workers hit the siding and cracked the siding. I contacted the comapny and the owmer Steve came over. Its obvious the damage was done from lawn mowers and I do have pictures to prove the condition prior to sod being added. He said I should get an estimate and he would pay for the repair. He asked if he could send over someone he knew to do the work. I agreed. It doesnt matter to me who does the work , I just wanted the damage repaired to the condition it was in prior to his comapny damaging my siding. No one came so I got an estimate from a company that repairs siding and submitted it to Steve. He refused to pay. I was told he said I should have told them sooner as the damage was from a year prior. Thats impossible as I had cement. I had my drainage redone and thats when they pulled up the cement and added the sod. I have reported them to my insurance company and now I have to go through the the hassle of small claims court just to get the damage they did repaired. We have had Steves for more than 5 years and are more pleased than ever! They are so detailed in their work and flexible. During the summer when it's hot and dry we often don't need them because the lawn hasn't grown. Just call and leave them a message and they skip us for the week or two. This year because my husband and I are disabled we needed them to mulch our yard. Our yard hadn't been mulched in a few years and there were weeds growing in the garden areas. Not only did they dig up the weeds but they prepared the areas and the much was thick, deep and beautiful! I can't thank them enough for making our yard once again beautiful!
