Came in for a tune up, mechanic informed me that my oil switch was out and a tune up was not necessary, the tune up was quoted at $280 but then the oil switch repair ended up being $750. I wasn't mad about having to pay for what needed to be fixed but my car started leaking oil after the oil switch was replaced. I called in and brought my car in. Once I called to see the progress the mechanic said it was a seal that needed to be replaced which would cost $125. Again, I have no issue paying for car maintenance but my car is still leaking oil... Maybe I just had a bad experience and they do have better service but I did not get to experience it. read more

I had my truck towed to steve's auto shop to have transmission replaced. The transmission came with a six month warranty, however, it was never honored. I took my vehicle to him on four different occasions under warranty, five different occasions after, and numerous phone calls throughout. I've had issues the day I picked up the vehicle and have been getting the run around nearly two years later. There have been 2 codes that have been popping up since the beginning: P1744, and P1768 both which he claim to have fixed and is not an issue. However, AAMCO stated the issue has not been taken care of and the transmission is faulty. I spent $1500 for rebuilt transmission. He knows how to smooth you over, and he's willing to do just enough to get you off his property without ever really fixing the issue. Either his mechanics are not knowledgeable or he just refuses to take care of the issue, which makes him a con artist. I would avoid at all costs if you value integrity and money. I had a motorcycle accident and obtained a traumatic brain injury. This really affected my memory. I say this because I forgot about Steve. I recently had a small leak coming from under the hood. I took it to pepboys and they quoted me 1200 to fix it. I guess the tube that needed to be changed was under the engine. They said it was a big job. I was really distraught. I told my wife and she said to take it to Steve. I did and not only did he fix the leak in less than 2 hours but he only charged me about $250.00. I was so happy. (2005 Honda Civic DX) Standing around with my two toddlers I had to ask well how much to drive away safely...what would be mandatory. I was quoted $260 plus a "free" oil change. Also, stated that I needed two new rotors...only needed one. Shopped around and got new brakes, rotor, and service for $140 by a brake specialist on Manchester and Normandie. The first time he told me the car was no good, which was understandable. The second time I needed the check engine light to go off to pass smog. Steve's Auto Repair 3509 West Rosecrans Ave., Hawthorne, California 90250 310-644-2111 Steve Auto Repair is a rip-off. It took me a while to realize that the problem with my car was the mechanics at Steve's Auto Repair. It got to the point where every time I would take my car to Steve's Auto Repair they would work on my car and not long after I get the car out of the shop I would have to take it back because something else would go wrong. I realized that when the mechanics would fix one problem another problem would soon occur to cause my car to need repairs again. I will not ever take my car to Steve's Auto Repair again. I urge others to beware when they do. I never considered that a business person could be so twisted but I have the repair bills to prove it. The first time I noticed it is when I took my car to Steve's Auto Repair to have my brakes fixed. They fixed my brakes or at least I thought they did. The next day while driving to work the passenger side front brake caught on fire. I poured water on it to put the fire out. I had it towed back to the shop and they fixed it. I later had a problem with my driver's side power window. It would not go down. I took it to Steve's Auto Care and asked them to repair the window. Steve said he had to replace the panel in the front driver's side door and the motor for the window. About two weeks after that my window stopped working again. Not long after that I was driving to work and my car began to overheat. I went to a Pep Boys close to my job and purchased some anti-freeze and put some in the radiator. While driving home from work the car began to overheat again. I took the car to Steve's Auto Repair and I was told I needed a new radiator. I had the radiator replaced. I thought everything was okay. To get my radiator replaced I had to leave my car overnight. When I went to pick my car up from the shop I noticed that someone had dug a hole in the back of the front passenger seat and pulled some of the foam seat filling out. The foam filling was lying on the floor behind the front seat. I told Steve (The shop owner) about it and showed it to him. He cleaned the foam filling from the floor and he then told me that, he has been having these kinds of problems since the new apartment building behind the shop was built. That was his explanation. The car was parked outside his shop overnight. Steve had the key to my car and the car door should have been locked. I had a bottle of water in the cup holder in the front of the car. There was also a 20 ounce six pack of bottle water on the back seat. As I began to drive away, I picked up the bottle of water in the cup holder and there was a pin whole puncture that had been poked into the bottom of the bottle. The water was leaking out of the cup holder onto the floor. When I got home I picked up the six-pack of bottle water on the back seat and noticed that there was a pin whole puncture in the bottom of one of the bottles in the six-pack and most of the water had leaked out onto my back seat. Not to long after that, I had a flat tire. I had to remove the flat tire and put on the mini (doughnut) spare tire that comes with the car. I had a hard time removing one of the lug nuts. After I got it off I noticed that the stud was stripped. I put the mini spare tire on the car and I could only put on three of the four lug nuts. I took my care to Steve's Auto Care and asked him to replace the stripped stud and put a new tire on the car. When I picked my car up from the shop the new tire was on the car and all of the lug nuts were on. A few weeks later I had another problem with the new tire. It had a nail stuck in the tire and the tire was slowly loosing air. I tried to remove the tire and put my spare tire on again but I noticed that the stud I thought was replaced was still stripped and I could not get the lug nut off. Apparently the mechanics did not replace the stripped stud. They put a new tire on the car and forced the lug nut on the stripped stud. I took the car to another mechanic shop and had the stud replaced and the tire fixed and the other shop did a good job. I have not had a problem with that tire since. Again, not to long after this incident I was driving my car and it began to overheat again. I went to the Pep Boys again and purchased some antifreeze. I opened the hood and I noticed that there was no liquid in the radiator. There was rust in the radiator and in the overflow tank. I also noticed that there was a cut in the upper radiator hose. It appeared that when I got my radiator replaced the mechanics at Steve's Auto Repair put water in the radiator instead of anti-freeze. The cut in the radiator hose was small and it took time for the slit in the upper radiator hose to open up enough to let the water come out and the car to overheat. I had my car towed to another mechanic. Again I had to replace my radiator.The new mechanic fixed my car good. I have been driving my car since last year with no problems. read more

I've had oil changes, brake pad & air filter replacements with him and I can tell you that he's very sincere, honest and does the job at a fraction of the cost than the dealer I used to go to. He will only tell you to get something fixed if it actually needs fixing. Even when I brought my in-laws to get their car checked up (which Steve offers for free btw), he didn't forcibly suggested to get the car fixed even though he found very minor problems. Used Steve a few times started out great seemed like a nice guy reasonable prices so one day my vehicle was shaking he supposedly fixed my upper control arm $500.00. Came to pick up vehicle, steering wheel was upside down and the car was still shaking told needed a camber adjustment and rotor turned additional $190.00. Car was still shaking very suspect work. He then told me I needed new tires. Went to get tires balanced $20.00 no more shaking. Should have learned my lesson but 3 years later I took my vehicle to Steve once again (I live down the street so its convenient) car was shaking told needed major tune-up $412.00. Next day car stopped on freeway had triple a come the alternator had been disconnected. A few months later car was shaking again told I needed spark plugs and valve intake cleaned. I'm like didn't this come with the major tune-up that I had a few months ago. He stated that these things happen but I will only charge you $185.00. The next day the wheel pads were loose and the windshield wiper fluid lines were cut. That was the last time I ever went to Steve. A few people in my building were like if you take a vehicle to Steve you will have more problems down the line. read more
