I went to Steve's Ace Hardware today to fill my propane tank tanks. I asked the guy at the register if I just go around back for propane. His response was umm yeah but there's only one guy that does it and I will go get him when I'm done so if you just chill out I will get to you. I stood there with my mouth open. I was in shock! I waited a minute for him to finish and he said yeah propane is around back let me go get him. I decided to just leave. No way will I ever set foot in Steve's again. Very disappointed with my experience at this location. I ordered paint online for a store pick up order. After I got home with the paint I noticed they didn't mix it. I ordered a certain color and I got white. I called them and explained that this was not what I ordered and that it was very inconvenient for me considering I live over 30 minutes away. He said "what do you want me to do about it"? Then he go ons to tell me that the guy who mixes the paint will be there in the morning. He did not apologize or try in any way to make remedy the problem that HE made. Very unprofessional. In my line of work when I make a mistake on an order I go out of my way to try to make it right and apologies can go a long way. read more

I stopped in to fill the propane tank on my Class C motorhome because the gauge showed 1/4 tank. The gentleman who assisted me let me know that my tank was full. He didn't try to charge me for anything. He explained to me that it could be the angle that I was parked at which could affect the gauge. read more

I went inside to get a couple of screws for my trailer. I was not served or help. The big guy with glasses was cocky and had an attitude. I was in a good mood. As I past him I smile with a joke and tap him on shoulder. I didn't want to run into him as I was passing. He reply , don't touch me..he was in a bad mood. And when you pass someone I always tap someone I'm passing them. He got underneath my skin .so I left. Service was terrible by him. Tim is always a great guy there. Other than that. Steve's is a small local hardware store up the street from the big boys (Lowes and Home Depot). Steve's seems to be pretty well stocked with hardware essentials, but I was in the market for one thing; a Mardi Gras ladder. I have put off owning a MG ladder for years, but I finally lost the battle. Steve's ladders are well built, but seemed a little expensive. It was around $120 with tax and comes with wheels for easy dragging to and from the parades. The safety strap kept the kids secure and they enjoyed being up high to watch the parade. The staff at Steve's were very friendly. I recommend this place and hope more people frequent their store. read more

Saw an item online made by Ace Hardware and drove to Covington (after no answer on phone) to purchase it. Found the guy to be grumpy and not too knowledgeable. When I explained what I wanted, he said that I was the 4 or 5 person recently looking for same item. Ummmm, might want to have that in stock alert! Highly disappointed, but not surprised as this store is the size of a matchbox (smaller than a convenience store). Won't be back. Item is available at 2 other locations within 30 miles. If it's MADE BY ACE - IT SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO BE CARRIED AT ALL INDEPENDENTLY OWNED STORES. Especially when customers are coming in asking for it! read more

I love Steve's Ace Hardware on 190 in Covington. Yesterday when I needed plumbing advice, they found the parts I needed, gave me instructions on how to fix it and rang up my purchase all in less time than finding a parking spot and the plumbing department in the big box stores up the street. They did not talk down to me because I am a woman and were very encouraging. I often find better cleaning supplies and better quality hardware products here too. read more

I had gone to another store to have a car key made -- a two-edged key with a computer chip inside that cost $50. They had the correct blank, and a young sales clerk made the duplicate. We tried it in the door lock and the ignition, but it wouldn't turn at all. We went back inside and he re-cut the bad key, trying to cut it slowly and more carefully. The key worked in the door with some jiggling, and it worked in the ignition a couple of times with jiggling, but mostly not. Then an older, more experienced sales clerk repeated the re-cut process, with the same results. The older guy offered to try cutting a new blank for me, but I declined. I called the Ace Hardware a few miles up the road in Covington, LA and asked the guy there if they had a good track record of getting duplicate keys (even my two-edged, computer chip key) to work on the first cut. He said that they usually didn't have any problems getting dupes to work. So I drove straight to the store and found the guy I talked to, who was a very friendly, gray-haired gentleman. He found the blank and proceeded to take his time positioning and cutting my key. It worked in the door and the ignition with no jiggling on the first try, as if it was a years-old, original key. I was in and out of the store in five minutes or less. Home run, Ace Hardware!! read more

I feel so fortunate to have Steve's Ace Hardware so close to my house. When I've needed special items in the past, Steve's had them when the bigger hardware store did not. Also everyone there has great knowledge and are always extremely kind & helpful! When I last visited Steve's Ace Hardware, I was looking for a specific handle for a skillet cover that had been dropped & broken. Of course, they had it and the very nice man who was helping me, not only retrieved it from a higher shelf, but put it on for me. I wasn't expecting that and thought I would have to install it when I returned home. Shopping at Steve's reminds me of the way shopping was in the past.
