WOW, this place is awesome. I came here after eating some brunch down the street and I did not expect much from this candy shop but was I suprised. Its chocolate galore in here, chocolate candies in every shape, flavor and size. They sell pre-packaged boxes, a-la carte candies, hundreds of little packaged ones everywhere, fudge by the 1/4 lb. This is a chocolate paradise. I picked up a few things and they were all really delicious. Glad I stopped by here on my visit to Rochester. read more

I live in California and unfortunately have never had the chance to visit Stever's Candy. My dad and his family grew up in the 1950s in Rochester visiting Stever's. What a great place to visit for great chocolate! Being new to Rochester, I had to check out this store that has been around for many decades. If you want speciality handmade chocolate for any occasion, this is the place to come. Though a bit small, it has every thing from Willy wonka golden ticket bars, peanut butter cups, gummy bears, orange chocolate, and many other varieties. Stopping in right before Christmas, I was happy to see such a wide selection of speciality Christmas chocolate such as speciality shaped Christmas milk chocolates, ribbon candy and peppermint patties. They are known for their sponge chocolates which are made from malt and crunchy at first taste but than melts in your mouth. Oh Stever's...a trip down memory lane. My aunt took me there all the time when I was growing up and now I always have to stop in to grab a little something when I am in the Park Ave area. The people that work at Stever's are very nice and it is a great place to get a unique little gift. They have chocolates with all different themes and molds that can fit any personality, but the best part is: the chocolate in the fun molds are actually delicious. My favorite things to get are the chocolate covered espresso beans, dark chocolate covered pretzels and the different cremes. Stop in and pick something up! It will make a friend's day! read more

This place is the mecca of amazing candy that you want to shove in your face as fast as you can. They have all different kinds of chocolate, many different kinds of flavored candy, and always have a few odd things that you can try out (like bacon and eggs). The staff is awesome, they will help you find exactly what you want. For any holiday I always show up here, get a bunch of stuff I know people will love, and those are my presents for that holiday (and they are always a huge hit). It can be insanely busy so if you go at a peak time be prepared to wait. But if waiting in line at a popular place makes you angry, then go to a less popular one with worse candy! read more

Just an update to my review. I am back and forth between the US and Iceland and at Christmas every year we get Quality Street in this big purple tin. Quality Street is a European candy that is filled with different flavored cremes. Anyway, they are expensive to ship and the strawberry creme filled ones are my absolute fav! You might only get a handful of that flavor though to last an entire Christmas season :( I took a chance and searched Stever's high and low for a dark chocolate strawberry creme candy and I found them! They are super comparable to Quality Street and now I can eat them ALL YEAR LONG! You don't even understand this level of excitement!!! My life is completely complete. read more

Ok, I've been here enough times and it's time for a review. I remember Fannie May back in Chicago, made in Chicago it's gone and I've not really found the same. Now this place is like a little wonderland of wonders. They even have low sugar things and etc. Hell they make Ribbon Candy.. It can't be shipped its WAYYYY to fragile. They carry dark & milk chocolate and all kinds of different things. It smells wonderful and the man who owns the place I believe is part of the family is great and very helpful. If you need assistance anyone there will help, they ship too. They do seasonal candies YUM.. I got the fresh raspberries in dark chocolate in June, they have all kinds of stuff for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah & Christmas and if you need to pick up and go you can call ahead. It's a must to go to to send something to family and friends. Just so much stuff to see and try.. If you can't find what you want ask. Closed in July. While they don't do high end, artisanal creations like Hedonist Chocolate on South Ave, Stever's is a good choice for more traditional items like chocolate covered fruits, pretzels, nuts, espresso beans, peanut butter cups, turtles, and all sorts of interesting shaped chocolates that vary according to the season. They also have some unique items such as chocolate covered fortune cookies, twinkies, and rice crispie treats. Most of their offerings come in both dark or milk chocolate options. They do have the BEST chocolate covered strawberries and raspberry clusters...available only when those berries are in season. Stever's Candies is just so damn good. I live in NYC and they shipped my order during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am thinking of ordering again because hey it's a pandemic and if chocolate can make it better while supporting an amazing small business, why not? My favorite items are the milk chocolate rice crispy clusters and the dark chocolate orange peel. Those are to DIE FOR. The orange peels are wide and covered by a thick layer of chocolate. I've tried so many chocolate covered orange peels and these are my favorite by far. The chocolate covered marshmallows are also amazing, and the sponge candies are also SO GOOD. Stever's is, and always has been, my " Happy Place". Now my children will not settle for anything other than Stever's amazing chocolate and candy. Their dark chocolate is the best ever. My family's favorites include; milk choc non-pareils, choc covered rice crispie treats, dark chocolate sponge candy, melt-a-ways , licorice, sour gummy candy, French mints, dark chocolate salted caramels, caramel robins eggs, and my ultimate favorite- dark choc coconut kisses. I was missing New York sponge candy, and after trying a very poor comparison near me I decided to treat myself to a stockpile of goodies shipped from Stever's and I am so glad I did. First off, the timing was miraculously fast. I placed the order on Monday, and my package arrived a few days later on Thursday. And I was nervous about shipping sponge candy, but accepted that broken sponge candy might be the cost of a long distance order. Turns out I had nothing to worry about, Stever's packed everything so carefully - bubble wrap around the different sponge candy bags and even opening and resealing my box of chocolate covered marshmallows in order to add extra cushioning inside that inner box to prevent breakage. It shipped the same day I placed the order AND was packed with such care?! I was so impressed and appreciative. Also, it's right before Valentine's day, and they even sent me little/simple valentines day cards (business card size) and stickers with hearts in case I was gifting any of it on! Oh yeah, and the chocolates and sponge candy are hitting the spot. I am honestly so impressed with Stever's and highly recommend them, especially for out of towners. Neither my husband nor I are huge cake fans, so when it came to deciding on wedding desserts we opted for chocolates! We'd been huge fans of Stever's over the years we lived in Rochester, and though we moved before our wedding we had our hearts set on getting their candies for our day. The Stever's team was really helpful as we picked out about 40 boxes, covering ten different varieties of candy and then packing them up to be shipped out to California. I really like this store. Parking can be difficult but it's worth the trip. They have a large variety of custom made candies including marzipan in the shape of fruits. The owner treats her employees negatively. seems like they are always walking on eggshells around her. the chocolate is yummy. there is a negative vibe like another reviewer has said in their post. I love that this little local candy shop has survived big chain stores for over 50 years! They have such a great selection...a little something for everyone. I love Stever's! The sponge candy is the real standout here but I am also a fan of the chocolate covered Oreos, Rice Krispie Treats and pretzels. Though hardly cheap, the price and quality of Stever's seems to match up really well. The Oreo's are probably the best bang for your buck. This is also one of the few places you can get a caramel and marshmallow filled chocolates, which is a favorite of mine. Their sea salt caramels are also pretty good. read more

This is the best dark I've had since visiting Switzerland. Stevers chocolate is now my favorite dark chocolate haven. I made a special trip here with a friend whose grandfather used to run a candy store. It was a little disappointing that it was all chocolate, but it's still a beautiful chocolate shop. A couple of things bring it down from a 4-star experience: 1. The bag of chocolate raisins was actually primarily chocolate blueberries (which was fine by me, but I'm not the one who bought them). 2. Horrible customer service. I took my 19 month old daughter in with me today. She was putting chocolate in a basket quietly, just like any other customer and I was very rudely asked to make her stop. She wasn't bothering anyone, she wasn't in the way, and she didn't break or damage a single piece of candy. She was shopping like any other customer and making people smile while doing it. I have been a loyal Stever's customer for over 40 years, and so was not expecting the exceptionally poor service over Easter. On the Monday before Easter I tried, with a dated receipt, to return a sealed and wrapped box of candy purchased by mistake the previous Saturday. I was given the biggest song and dance; can't return "food" items, expired shelf life, etc., etc. All over one small, $8.55 box of white chocolate. Guess the person who waited on me never returned a food item at the grocery store. I finally left it in the store and told them to throw it away. Now really, does anyone believe that all the unsold chocolate is thrown away after a holiday.
