    Cute!

I am not exactly a cook, so I may have never stumbled across this place without Yelp. You should stop by, especially if you do cook, and maybe even if you don't. It smells so good when you walk in the door!!! We got to do some demos with the owners. We got to try several yummy things, including an apple pie grilled cheese and mulled apple cider, which were my favorites. We also got to smell a lot of their sample spices. They crush all the spices themselves in the store, so they're really fresh. It's worth a trip in to try some of them. I also got to try the Beau-licious dip, and I bought the mix to make for the holidays. It was similar to a rye dip, but it had a slightly different taste, and it was super yummy! So even if you don't cook, they have some dip mixes you can buy to impress your guests! I will personally be impressing my husband when I "cook" something for Thanksgiving. :) Go check it out. Street parking was easy to find. And they will take credit cards for any amount. This is my kind of store!

Check out their tip and recipe cards for their different spices.

Awesome spice store. All gluten free. Fresh ground...weeks not months. They offer herbs, spices, seasoning blends, salts, pepper, sausage mixes, dip mix packets, gin kits, and much more. Many items would make great gifts for a cook or host. They offer classes as well and a newsletter 4-6 times year. Many local restaurants source their spices from Stuart's. I was taken with their corn on the cob spice...great when roasting veggies. Check out their free recipes and recommendations for using different spices.

Random picture I sent to friend wondering if I had any extra paprika. Stuart's Spices representin'!

This place is Awesome. Everything is fresh and absolutely amazing. If you are local, consider yourself very, very lucky! I live in New Orleans - a culinary capital - and we do not have anything remotely like this place. I regularly place bulk orders with the Finnefrocks and have them ship it down to me. I've been a customer of this spice joint for twenty years, and they always exceeded my expectations. Barbecue is a pretty big passion of mine (feel free to check out my 'cue reviews), so I use A LOT of Paprika, Chili Powder, Cumin, Cayenne, and other magic spices. When I first started using Stuart's Spices to make rubs in the last few years, I had some huge issues - compared to spices you would normally purchase in the stores, these are EXTREMELY POTENT! They are fresh ground, and required some big modifications to my recipes. Another nice option is the ability to buy in just about any quantity. They sell small packets of spice all the way up to the two pound bags I buy for my rubs. If you don't see the size or spice you are looking for, just ask Tom or Vicki - they usually have it in the back. Here's a rundown on the stuff I buy a lot of on a regular basis: CUMIN - This stuff is amazing! Compared to a grocery store, this will knock your socks off. I ended up halving the cumin I use in my rubs once I started using this. Definitely a must. HUNGARIAN PAPRIKA - Love this stuff. It has an excellent sweet, robust flavor that works so well with Carolina-style rubs. SPANISH PAPRIKA - I played with this in my rubs as well, although the Spanish paprika is a lot more delicate tasting than Hungarian. Before I knew of Stuart's, I did not know paprika came is different varieties. Could be considered a "lite" version of paprika. SMOKED SPANISH PAPRIKA - Originally bought this stuff for my rubs. Then I realized I wasn't too bright - I would barbecue everything that had a rub on it, so using smoked paprika was a complete and utter waste. Since this realization, I use it a lot in the kitchen when cooking. It is great in a recipe that calls for paprika, and that would benefit from a subtle smokey flavor. MEDIUM-TO-HOT CHILI POWDER - Another rub staple. Just be warned this stuff has a definite kick to it. I would recommend using it sparingly until you get a handle on the heat. CAYENNE PEPPER - Be mindful of the SHU level you purchase. I assumed the mid-level was normal (90,000 SHU), and I was really, really wrong. I ended up with quite a bit of very spicy barbecue. As it turns out, the 40,000 SHU Cayenne is much closer to "normal". Lesson learned! As stated above, these are the staples. I have not come across anything I didn't enjoy, ranging from the Rochester Meat Sauce, Fire Salt, English Mustard, Stout Mustard, Granulated Garlic & Onion, Ground Habanero, Vanilla Beans, and on and on. Give this place a shot and you will not be disappointed!

Spices are strong (fresh) -adjust your portions in your recipe.

I have absolutely no clue why I have never written a review on this place.. well here we go…read more I've been here to pick up things for events and raffles.. Ive tried the oils and vinegars pre-Covid. Lots of fun things to try and it gives you ideas of things to use with different foods. (Mayer Lemon EVOO!) Oils as a garnish or to sauté with, make salad dressings, dip your bread..the list goes on. Thing is with Covid I have no idea if you can try anything? I would say ask.. I buy blind and I just go by a description so... What's nice is they ship and they have a few other locations. If you want to give a gift to someone who loves to cook but not sure what to get them. Come here you can get a bunch of different things or get a prepared box of boxed up oils and etc. Staff is friendly and helpful considering Covid it's not a big place and they will regulate the flow of customers if it gets a bit too much. What's good about this place is where it is, after you go in here depending the time frame you can pop in to Baker Street Bakery for some bread and treats. Check out Salty a lovely boutique store or go to Cafe Sasso, Glen Edith, The Chai Guy or Pittsford Dairy for some drinks and treats. Parking is street or behind the building on Somerton. Give them a whirl.

I absolutely love any stop into F. Oliver's. Looking for a unique gift you know people will use?…read moreThis is the spot! The staff here are total experts when it comes to helping you find a unique flavor profiles and combinations, and, while I haven't been in during the COVID times, know they have an amazing tasting process during the normal times. I adore their balsamics and am particularly partial to the fig and berry-based bottles. We always have F. Olivers with our Sunday sauce at my parents house - paired with some Wegmans garlic tuscan bread?! Forget it. I always look forward to my next order of oils and balsamics. Stop in if you have yet to, making stops at Salty and Baker Street Bakery in the awesome Somerton plaza. F. Olivers also has a location in Canandaigua. Happy dipping!
