I might actually use it as a rub...if there's any left....since I've been sprinkling it in my salads. Mmmmm hmmmm!! Give me some of that hot, salty and sweet goodness to kick things up!! This store is like a dream for those of us looking to buy less plastic. Marilla's started with a…read morelocation in Geneva and has recently expanded to the South Wedge. I met Marilla herself, who gave me a tour of the small shop and explained how everything worked. This store carries several types of products. Bulk spices, coffee, tea, and candy; reusable/ecofriendly household products like soap bags and kitchen scrubbers; and big refill tubs of liquid items like face wash, hand soap, shampoo, and the like. They have jars you can purchase, or bring your own jar/container. Either way, the container is weighed and then you are charged for the weight of the product. There are fancier jars to buy for a few dollars, or use one of the recycled jars on the free shelf (they are cleaned and sanitized before being set out). Marilla also accepts clean, clear jars (no label) if you have them to donate. I look forward to refilling some household products here instead of buying one more plastic hand soap bottle or spice jar. Check this place out!

No dice in the COVID world, but we were still able to ask questions and ended up leaving with a lovely fig balsamic that I am excited to try. I asked the staff what might be good in a greek or mediterranean recipe and they uncertainly pointed me toward a basil olive oil. Given that we didn't have the opportunity to taste, I didn't want to risk it. I thought prices were a little high compared to some of our high end olive oils here in ROC, but it was worth it for a quick stop in a cute town. Would recommend going post-COVID!

They had everything from truffle, butter, garlic, coffee. Everything. The staff was super friendly and helpful even though there were other people in the shop. We ended up somehow only getting one bottle of lemon infused olive oil. Everything I tried was so wonderful though. The rosemary infused olive oil was another favorite. This would be a big favorite for gifts (for myself AND for others) if I was from the area.

Prices are a bit higher about $2-$5 more than other grocery stores depending on what you're getting, also know you're supporting a community focused, local business. It's not a huge place, but they've got a solid selection of essentials, and some nice specialty items too. There's even an outdoor area if you want to relax with a snack or a drink. A great neighborhood, and it's decorated outside and has some amazing murals so you can't miss it. I wish I had thought to take pictures. Will do it next time. Bring your own bags. Parking was easy. The aisles are nice and wide. They have small baskets that roll, making it really easy for someone with disabilities to shop. Their meat section is all frozen, which is fine. I bought frozen wild salmon. They have a big sausage section, with some delicious sounding ingredients. I will have to get some next time.
