I'm pulling my account immediately. This morning, I called the Ocean Shores Animal Hospital to see if I could get an appointment for my dog, Wilson, because our regular vet did not have an opening. I spoke to Debbie and explained that my dog had been licking a spot next to his tail over the weekend, and the area was now a swollen, open wound. After reviewing my office profile and asking about my previous dogs, Debbie placed me on hold. Then a Margery(?) picked up the line and said that their internet was down??, they couldn't look at their computers and she would have to call me back when their internet was up. Three hours later, Debbie called back to tell me that they could not schedule an appointment with me due to a "conflict of interest". I asked, "What conflict of interest?" She said she didn't know, but that was what she was told. I was puzzled by the vet's response and worried about my dog. We started rattling our brains to figure out what the huge conflict could be to cause a clinic to deny animal care. Can you guess what the conflict of interest is? A person involved with the vet's office is also a member of the Indivisible group that has been harassing my husband, the Mayor. At no point should politics, disagreements, or anything similar take precedence over a pet or family member receiving the care needed to sustain a healthy life. While I waited for three hours, I could have driven to the emergency vet in Olympia. What a heartless thing to do.

IF I COULD GIVE YOU A NEGATIVE STAR I WOULD, DISRESPTING OUR VETERANS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE EVER!…read moreSo let me tell you of my Aberdeen Wa. adventure this afternoon. We had a meeting in Aberdeen and decided to stop at Petsence to pick up a few things, did it, went back to our car and had time to kill, as we sat there my husband (also a disabled veteran) noticed a couple at the end of the building who he had seen earlier today in our town of Elma (about 20 minutes away) , he told me this guy is a vet, I am going to talk to him while I stayed in the car smoking (don't judge). A good 5 minutes or so and my husband came back to the car and started telling me their story, guy was a homeless disabled vet, he and his girlfriend have been traveling across America trying to get to Alaska to homestead, they were taking a break from the rain feeding their dog and taking the backpack loads off for a few before trying to make it to Westport in hopes of catching a fishing vessel to Alaska. They never asked my husband for anything, there weren't causing trouble, they were merely taking a break out of the rain. My hubby and I both decided to help with a couple of bucks and a pack of cigs, THEY DID NOT ASK US, we just wanted to give a little bit back to another vet., not the first time and it won't be the last, because you see, we have also been to THAT place, that place where your about as low as you can go, we had good people who helped us for no reason other than they are good people and we try to pay it forward when possible. When we help the only thing we ever ask is that when you can, when you see another vet struggling, YOU PAY IT FORWARD also, because sometimes that's all we got, each other. Now, my husband walked back over and they tried to refuse our help, but my husband persisted, I am still in the car and see the hugs start, the look on the faces, that is all the satisfaction I will ever need. THEN ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE....The, I assume, manager of Petsense came over and told them they had 10 minutes to leave NO solicitors, my husband explained calmly that was not the situation, that this is a disabled veteran that was merely taking a break from the rain as they traveled through Aberdeen, she got more aggressive and loud and then that's when I jumped out of the car. I also tried explaining to her the situation, and told her they were doing absolutely nothing, but all she could say was "that's corporate, not me", I retorted "well your here and we are telling you that is not the situation and this is a disabled veteran, SHAME ON YOU" and few cuss words for frustration and the absolute absurdity of a situation that should not be happening, I grabbed the guy and hugged him and said THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE and turned back to her and repeated SHAME ON YOU several times as she retreated to her "safe space" inside the store and because I cussed at her she said she was calling the cops. Good do it I said, your disrespecting a veteran and I am not going to let you do that! Then we told the couple get your things in our car, we're taking you to Westport which we did. On the way back home we stopped in Aberdeen McDonalds which just happens to be pretty close to Petsense, and ate in the car since we were listening to the Savage Nation. Well low and behold here comes the Aberdeen PD by, then they turned around and parked by us, my husband chuckled "oh, I guess were going to get a talking to" AND that's what happened, police woman was very nice but after we told her what happened she tells me the store lady said their were knives being brandished WTF!!!!!! I said that is NOT true there was nothing like that going on, except my wicked potty mouth which can be pretty cutting sometimes, and my husband being my husband said "why would I brandish a knife when I carry a gun?" lol, classic W.W. So, she lied, I don't know why other than maybe once she got to calling the cops she felt like a DICK and had to make it sound better for her, maybe it was the woman in the next car who offered to buy the couple dog food and said thank you to us before we left with them, maybe it was the people who were listening to the whole thing and weren't too happy that Petsense was treating a vet like this, one we just happened to know. #Petsense this is a small county, though I am a bit of a hermit, my husband is well known all over WA., You can bet this story will be told to all his veteran buddies, and maybe some veterans on FB might share this too, #BoycottPetsense Oh, and Thanks #Petsense, being banned from your store was on my bucket list, didn't think I would fit that in at 58 since we liked to shop there every month. Oh and the PD, well they said the couple had every right to be there, since they were OUTSIDE of your building and not doing anyone any harm, maybe you should inform corporate about that one, you know public sidewalk and all.

The staff is very caring and doctor Sonya is an excellent veterinarian and I would recommend this veterinarian clinic to anyone. I have seen where they will go out of their way to help customers that aren't even patients of theirs. That is what excellence and caring is about. I have gone to several clinics here in the area before I came upon GHV clinic. Sadly I was given a misdiagnosis from my then vet and was given treatments on my rottweiler for Cushings disease that she didn't have and pills that she didn't need to take. I ended up going to GVS for an emergency with my rottweiler as my then current vet said he didn't have time to see ElizzaBear until the following week and I couldn't wait that long due to the "Cushings disease". That is when I learned from Dr. Sonya, after she performed multiple tests on ElizzaBear, that ElizzaBear did not have Cushing's disease at all. I was extremely upset about dosing my dog for something that she didn't need. She is now gone but never forgotten. You can imagine my surprise and needless to say, I have been with Dr. Sonya ever since for all of our pets' needs and that was many years ago. I also had another misfortune with another clinic that charged me $50 per pet just for a nail trim. That's completely unacceptable and outrageous! I never went back. Grays Harbor veterinary clinic is not only helpful and caring but their costs are very reasonable.

I've moved between three different states and had about five vets in that time. More if you count a few emergency vet visits. I have NEVER had to book a second appointment because of my cat's temperament. My first visit to this office was in Oct 2025. They have signs posted about not serving pets that get agitated, including possible sedation for services. My cat was there for a swollen leg, and was not happy to be there. (And please feel free to enlighten about any cat that enjoys the vet.) He was five at the time and the previous vet never complained about his temperament. This vet, however, was standoffish with him. Her name is Dr. O'Connor. Thankfully, we got through the appointment but I wasn't impressed with her hesitancy to provide service. Fast forward to today, April 2026. I brought both my cats in for their annual wellness exams. They each needed updated vaccines. The tech came in first, checked their weights, and confirmed the services we needed. (Which they don't have right. The thought only one cat needed shots but they both did.) The vet comes in without the vials for shots and made a comment about not having them prepared yet. The first cat goes up and does fine. No shots administered while he was happy though because they weren't in the room... Now the second cat goes up and is not as cooperative. Thankfully, she managed to give him his shot. Now it's time to bring the first cat up again and he's getting defensive. As cats do at the vet! (At least in my experience) She tells me I'll have to bring him back for a "tech appointment" for the shots because he's agitated. His "kitty minutes" as they call them are up. -_- We waited 20 minutes to be seen, then the vet comes in without everything she needs to facilitate the appointment, yet I have to pay a secondary appointment fee now because of the office's negligence and poor bedside manner? My cats behaved how they always behave at the vet and it's never been an issue. It's seems like this vet and certain techs are uncomfortable around animals, frankly. Maybe they're new to the field? Idk I moved to Elma from Lakewood which is why I switched vets. I would rather make the hour drive one way to my previous vet in Tacoma with two cats in tow than deal with this office again. And moving forward, I will. I did book the tech appointment because my cat needs the update on his rabies shot, and I don't want it to be delayed any further. Ultimately, I will adhere to their policies but it's just not the type of service I'm looking for in a vet. I will say, to their credit, that the appointment was originally scheduled for the week before and I had to reschedule last minute. (The cats are indoor outdoor and got out while I was at work. Came home to an empty house) They were very nice about it, and I do recognize they could argue I wasted their time first. My advice - go the Union Ave Vet Hospital in Tacoma and see Dr. Plevinskyi. He's awesome!

Being part of the spay/neuter/foster/rescue…read morecommunity for the last 20+ years has afforded me the ability to experience a wide range of veterinarians over multiple states. However, this review is about, hands down, the VERY BEST veterinarian I have ever had the pleasure to work with, Dr. James Belknap. We came to him with our "foster failure," chunky monkey, big baby, lab/shar pei/pit mix, Daisy, who presented with a large soft tissue sarcoma, but, unfortunately, on her rear leg where she didn't have any extra skin to close the wound after the sarcoma, tissue and surrounding muscle were excised with clean margins. I sought out Dr. Belknap for consultation and surgery solely based on what I was able to ascertain from online research regarding his expertise and experience. Although Dr. Belknap had never seen Daisy before my initial outreach, he went above and beyond +++ to advise and consult long distance helping us to prepare the best possible outcome for Daisy, all without even her first office visit with him. Separation anxiety post-op was a given knowing Daisy's history when she first came to us and Daisy surely wasn't happy about being kenneled for 5 days at the vet without her parents to sleep with. With a 2+ hour drive one way, we had to leave her in their caring hands. Dr. Belknap kept us apprised daily with updates post-op and on the 5th day we picked her up. From that point forward, Dr. Belknap kept in close contact by phone and text, asking for pics on a regular basis so he could see her progress. He worked with our local vet to share progress reports and records. Dr. Belknap was happy to see Daisy post-op as often as we were able to make the drive, which we did every couple of weeks. Daisy subsequently developed a deep tissue infection post-op requiring more intervention and resulting in our administering nightly medication with a catheter into the opening of her leg. After almost 2 months of recovery, Daisy was finally deemed "healed," but Dr. Belknap's care didn't end there. He reached out a couple of weeks later to be sure there wasn't any return of drainage or irritation. All in all, every pet deserves a veterinarian like Dr. James Belknap. Whether you need an expert veterinary surgeon or not, I highly recommend Dr. Belknap for all of your pets needs. Including a pic of the surgery and flap created, all of which is now completely healed. (Don't look if you're squeamish.) This is a depressed area with a lot of need but don't let that keep you away from adopting and volunteering yourself. The veterinary care when we adopted our two separate adult kitties in the past 3 years was very good. Animals were well-socialized and exercised--yes, even the cats. Our sweet Harry had been there for nearly a year (or more), formerly named Sonic. He was about 3 years old. This shelter doesn't put down their oldest and most unadoptable cats. There were some extremely aged cats (and probably dogs too), particularly a sweet lil Manx who was able to roam freely. It felt good to take Harry home and open up his world--but he would have had no world to enjoy at all at some shelters. A previous adoption at PAWS of GH was of a teen mommy who had been caring for her babies under a trailer. Just a slip of a thing but healthy, she was super ready to finally have her own childhood in our home. They have both been a joy and comfort--and got along like best friends immediately. Though the animals were not chipped by the shelter, regular veterinary exams were done, immunizations and flea treatments were done properly and there was an exit visit, flea treatment and claw clipping with the vet tech before we signed the papers and left with our new family members. There was also a built-in trial period. The facility is old but clean. Anything anybody could do to help, I'm sure, would be of high value. We will come back to adopt one day, but hopefully not too soon. Thank you, PAWS of Grays Harbor!
