I have never had such unprofessional service from a handyman. I hired Steven to do a few tasks which weren't completed. I called him Wednesday (3/13) and he responded the same day to do the work.
I asked him to install a mailbox which he did the work no problem. I paid him that day, 160 for the mailbox and towel rack and vent although he had not completed the work. I gave him the money in good faith, hoping he would come back to finish the work. In addition, i asked him to install a bathroom vent which he partially put up but kept complaining he couldn't put the cover on. Next i asked if he could reinforce a towel rack in my guest bathroom. He claimed he couldn't find a stud in the wall and that he could place caulk over the rack to glue it together. He claimed it would dry in 30mins which it didn't. (Sidenote: now i know a studfinder is not needed to hang a towel rack. )I asked him to come back Monday to repair the towel rack and the vent. He claimed on Wednesday that his stud finder wasn't working. He said he could "try" to fix it later
Next he said he could fix the bathroom vent but he put it up diagonally and wondered why he didnt line up the vent with the hole in the ceiling. He claimed he couldn't install correctly due to the vent being small. He left it hanging and put the old cover back on the vent which looked horrible. I thought i would tell him about it after he was finished with all the tasks. He said he had a lawn service.
We agreed he would cut my backyard for $100 since he told me he had his own lawn service company. He weed whacked the whole backyard backyard. Then He asked me if I wanted him to rake the grass up and I told him yes. He said that if I wanted the grass raked and cleaned up that would be an additional cost. I told him most lawn service men rake up the grass and use a blower. He said that would be an additional cost. He Began to mow the lawn and his mower broke. He told me i owed him $500 for the day since his lawn mower broke. I told him i wasnt liable for any damages since this was his business. He said 'fuck it then im not repairing your towel rack"! I told him, i already paid him for that and he should be a man of his word and fix it. He said, if you're not going to pay me for my lawn mower, I'm leaving. He grabbed his tools and sat in his truck.i walked out to his truck and told him i was paying him $80 for weed whacking the grass since i still had to hire someone else to do the work. Overall i paid him $240 for half ass jobs. Which he didn't deserve considering he only installed a mailbox and weed whacked the grass.
Homeowners beware!!! I tried going with a Yelp unlicensed handyman because he was cheaper than everyone else but in the end i spent twice as much on repairs since i had to hire someone else to do the work correctly. read more
