3.5 -Got my biannual teeth cleaned by Brandon Chiu. First time here and easy to make appointment on the phone. They have 2 offices. One in Rowland that accepts new patients. The place was hard to find. Had to call to know where it's at. It's basically behind First Bank. The office looks very old. The seats are also old and have dips in it. No cushion at all. I wasn't aware and it sank me. Everything is paper chart. I do like that I can read what I'm signing. Other dentist I've been to just tells me and say sign on this pad without letting me read what I'm signing. The instruments look a bit old too. And the rooms and seat where you're getting teeth cleaned looked old too. They provide cleaning that I have never knew. They use Saline or Salt water type spray to spray in between the teeth and polisher I believe on the teeth. It was super uncomfortable. The spray is very strong and I feel high pressure from the spray hitting my gums and tissues. The doc did tell me it'll taste salty. Doc said it also has or acts like a varnish (fluoride)... but I'm not quite sure. Over all, treatment was fast and there wasn't a long wait for me to be seen. I seen like 4 or 5 dentist and I actually find this one better than the other ones. My first visit to the office, I was very unhappy. The front desk lady was rude. I was looking at my calendar to see when I have time to come in to get my teeth fix and she start getting impatient with me. But, my rest of the visits were okay... I didn't interact much with her so yah. The doctor (Dr. Brandon) was very nice and gentle. Again, I'm comparing with my previous dentists experience. This one was duable and I think I will keep him as my dentist. I speak chinese so i didnt have any problem with the dental assistant. Its a clean, friendly office read more

More like 2.5 stars... This office is in a nice medical building. The great thing about this office is that they open on Saturdays. One thing to note... they speak Chinese. Mandarin. The dental assistant ONLY spoke Mandarin so it was a challenge to communicate with her. When you get off the elevator on the 2nd floor.. the office is to your immediate left. It's clean and very new. They opened in July 2007. I actually had Dr. Brandon Chiu check out my teeth, who is Steven's son. At first I was slightly confused who he was because the brief bio Cigna gave me said Steven graduated in 1970's, but the Dr. looked like he was born in the 70's. So later I confirmed that he was Steven's son... The office is clean, very up to speed with technology. You have a tv in front of you while the dr is working. Jimmy Neutron was playing. I guess you dont' really have a choice on what to watch. My husband got Monsters Inc. Doctor - Casual guy that wore jeans. I feel that there isn't anything wrong with wearing jeans, but jeans with open toed sandals in a doctor's office? I don't think so. BUT Brandon was very thorough and excellent in explaining things very clearly. Very personable and speaks perfect English. Assistant - OMG. What a nightmare. As I stated earlier, barely any English. X-rays was torturous because she would stick the plastic in my mouth and force my jaw closed when it was poking into my gums... It majorly sucked. She did that for like 6 slides. I had to say NO I CAN'T almost every time. While the doctor was cleaning my teeth, she used the suction straw to get the water out. She had one in each hand and that also hurt... she put the suction on my gums or inside my lip on the sensitive tissue.... omg... can't she be more gentle? AND... omg... water was dripping down my mouth and instead of using the tissue tied around my neck to wipe it dry, she used the suction thing to suck up the water streaming down my face. THEN she stuck the straw back into my mouth!!!!!!!! OMG! I feel this assistant will really hold this dentist back. She is a freaking nightmare. BEWARE! In conclusion... the dentist is very good, but the assistant will make your dentist visit miserable. They really need to hire someone else. read more

I saw the reviews were about the assistants and their poor service. However I disagree. I think that the poor service is not from the assistants, but from Steven Chiu, DDS, himself. When I first came to his office for cleaning, the front desk lady was bilingual, so she was able to speak both English and Mandarin. She was very welcoming also. The dental assistant was also pleasant, but when the dentist came, he was not friendly. He did not greet me, and he started on cleaning my teeth right away. Yes, he cleaned my teeth well, but he was inconsiderate when it comes to pain. He did not care if I was in pain; he cared about getting his job done and getting paid for it. He acted as if he wanted to get the cleaning over with. Also, the only time he talked to me was when he sneered that I had five cavities, and I had to pay a whopping 400 bucks for them. I don't give a damn if you have 30 years of experience, have many patients, or have fame all over southern California's Chinese community! Having a crappy and arrogant attitude lowers your impression. The worst part was that he was nicer to my mother, and also his Mandarin-speaking patients. Just because I'm not Taiwanese, or that Mandarin is not my first language does not give you the right to treat me like crap! However, I've seen his son, Dr. Brandon Chiu, DDS, and he is WAY nicer than his father. Not only he cleans well, but he is also considerate of his patients. He does not want his patients to be in pain while cleaning, doing root canals, etc... I am just being honest, because this is according to my experience. read more

I've had some really bad experiences with dentists before. So, it was a welcome relief to have great service at this office. Honestly, I never knew that good dentists existed as I'd always had such bad experiences. Brandon Chiu did the work, specifically a root canal and also a bridge. He is very professional, takes the time to fully explain everything so that I understood what was happening. What I liked best was that he did not rush anything. Previous experiences at the dentist were crammed into one or two appointments. Dr. Chiu did my root canal and bridge over 6 appointments that spanned 3 months. That is how I want it done... the right way, the first time. If I'm paying $1200+ out of my pocket for anything, I want to know that it's being done right. I had no issues with the assistant, as noted in the other review. Yes, I could tell that she did not speak English, but that did not bother me as I did not need to communicate with her. The gal at the front desk was always very polite and actually greeted me by name, which I felt was a nice personal touch. Overall, I believe this is a great dental office. read more

Dr. Brandon Chiu. You are the man! The old saying that says, "No pain no gain." That is not something you adhere to when you go to a dentist. I have been going to Dr. Chiu's office since I was in college and I have to admit I have gotten my butt kicked on several occasions by the senior Dr. Steven Chiu. Dr. Steven Chiu does an amazing job when it comes to cleaning and cavities but definitely old school. If you want someone a lot more gentle, much more patient and to top it off, speak both English and Mandarin perfectly, then seek out his son Dr Brandon Chiu. I visited the Rowland Heights office located at 18906 gale ave. #B, Rowland Height recently and want to share the experience with fellow yelpers. The location is quaint and dated and a little hard to find. It is in the same plaza as Boiling Crab on Gale but faces Gale and Class 302, adjacent to a travel agency. I would recommend a little paint and a move away from the 1990's interior design at the office but then again I am there for a skilled dentist not for the interior design. Dr. Brandon Chiu worked on my teeth. He is gentle and very considerate of the pain. Dr. Chiu is thorough in his work and explains all the necessary and unnecessary procedures that I needed. He did not hard sell or pressure me which I liked. The last thing anyone wants to deal with at a dental office is a dentist that is trying to sell his services like a used car salesman. If you want a great dentist see out Dr. Brandon Chiu. If you are a UCLA bruins fan then there is even more reason to visit him. I was told that he is a UCLA alumni for his undergraduate studies and for dental school. read more

I don't know where these positive reviews came from, but the assistants seem not to want my business. Every time I called to make an appointment, the assistants want to schedule me for the next year. Is it because they have too many business that they don't care about getting mine? read more

I've been going to Dr. Steven Chiu for years, he is very experienced and skilled at practicing dentistry. I love his honest and candid no frills straight talk. I feel he always has my interest in mind. Instead of up selling/ monetizing expensive procedures or gratuitous cosmetic products like most dentist in the area (teeth whiteners, dental mouth guard or other foo-foo items that you can buy on Amazon for a 1/3 the price) his recommendation is only for necessary dental procedures. If you are shopping for a dentist, I highly recommend Dr Steven Chiu as your primary general dentist. He will save you $ and his honest advice is invaluable. read more

Had my first interactions with them, very painless procedure to set up appointment and get things done. The receptionist is a sweetheart and took care of my needs. I will be going to this office regularly. read more
