I noticed that the innersole of one of the shoes (made of cork) was starting to disintegrate. I called the SAS store that I purchased them from (in Evanston, IL) and spoke to Linda, the store manager. She looked up the sales and noted that the shoes were over 2 years old. She was not interested anything I said and responded that if I got 2 years of wear from them, I should just replace them, (noting that 2 years was as long as I should expect them to last . ) I should mention that in IL, most people don't wear sandals through the winter season. I have bought many SAS shoes prior to Linda being the manager, and was very disappointed with her attitude . I no longer will buy at that store and wonder if she is correct about the longevity of SAS shoes? Ellen..Evanston, IL

I'll admit, when they were on Diversey way back when they used to have a lot more hip shoes. My mom would take me there when I was a teenager / young woman and we totally loved it. I can still remember the tall sexy black suede boots I got there in 1998. For a long time this Wilmette location (& I'm assuming Gold Coast too) has seemed more focused on middle-aged and "mature" styles, I've been telling them for a few years now that they need to bring in hipper supportive shoes - and they are finally doing it! Yay! I've been finding more and more shoes I actually like. The last pair I got there I actually really really love. They also seem to be diversifying their price point more, which is helpful because most people don't want to buy a $400 pair of shoes. And I'm starting to find some more and more good options there that are under $150. This location has easy parking & there are some other great stores in the Plaza Del Lago.

Clybourn Ave. in Chicago, sophisticated Enzo and his co-worker Leo (very charming and knowledgeable young man!) have been exceptionally helpful finding the best shoes for me - mother of the Bride to be! I have been looking for the evening ivory shoes all over Chicago and suburbs for quite a long time and almost gave up (I was ready to wear the pair of shoes 15 years of age)... But luckily, while in Neiman Marcus, the sales associate had advised me to have a try at the Battaglia store. And voila! I got the most beautiful and comfortable (with the medium height heels!) shoes, which I proudly wore at my daughter's wedding! And the store itself is a lovely place to be in! In the future, I definitely will come back to the store again! Dalia

I said I was looking for shoes for my wedding reception ( not the wedding). First thing he said " what is your budget" I replied about 500. I threw down 1100 for my bridal shoes and didn't want to go overboard for reception. So naturally he showed me these 800 shoes. He was very rude and short with me. He kept pushing this one shoe on me and I kept telling him I don't like it . I said "It wasn't comfortable" he said what do you mean these shoes are comfortable " He then became upset and changed his attitude. He was being so shady about the other shoes. Also his breath smelled horrible, as if not brushed and smoking. Even if I liked the shoes I would have not bought it because of customer service. I hope the guy helping me was not the owner.Just bad experience. I ended up going to neimam Marcus and buying Valentino's.

A quick Google search showed us a spot that I've driven by hundreds of times and never knew was there. There is a sweet couple that own the store and they provide THEE best service. They are so attentive. They measured the foot and brought out every pair in his size so we could make our selection. It turns out the pair we first tried on was our favorite. When we rung up the shoes the owner still had the original record keeping mechanism that his parents used when they owned the stores. They have a variety of shoes brands including Stride Rites and some some other brands that are highly recommended by pediatricians. They now have loyal customers for life or at least until our kids no longer fit in kids shoes.

Even though my GPS was telling me where to go, I didn't see it until I was right in front of it. Service was fantastic. The moment we walked in we were greeted even though the place was super busy (it's a madhouse on weekends, apparently) and the woman came by to help us within a couple minutes. This store has been in business since 1961, passed through the family, and it's clear why they've been around so long what with their great service and merchandise. It was the first time that both our kiddos had ever had shoes. She measured them both, and explained what we should look for in shoes; the brand I bought, Stride Rite, she said is usually pretty true to size but if we went with one of their other brands they'd have to go up a bit. Both babes walked (or rather, strolled and were carried) away with a pair of shoes and we'll be back in August to re-size. They have a couple of toy stations to keep bored kids busy, which is a great touch. Since my baby is still just at the creeping stage and standing assisted, she doesn't wear shoes so that she can get used to the feel of her feet and the ground beneath them. But when we go for a walk or something they'll be good for her to have on her feet while she's being strolled. So although the shoes are not cheap by any means--I spent more on her shoes than I often spend on mine--I was ok with it since she's only going to have one or so at a time. And they're good brands, high-quality shoes, which is important for growing feet.
