OMG! This company has the nicest people to help you with your spa/swimming pool needs. We just purchased a vacation home that had a spa in the backyard. I've never had to deal with a spa. So this was all brand new to me. Homan arrived at my place to do an inspection but saw that I was in the middle of move. He remembered my home and said that he recalled an inspection was already done; what honesty! Furthermore, I told him that owning a spa was completely new to me. While the movers were moving stuff into my new home, Homan spent the time to show me how to test the water for PH, alkaline and chlorine. He was so gracious and answered all of my questions. I told him that I still wanted someone to come out to empty the water, clean the spa, refill the water and test the chemicals so that I was sure it was clean. He knew I was only at this home once a month and said when I was ready to do this job to call them. I did and Sergio and Aurelio arrived today showing me step by step how to empty the water, making sure everything electrical was unplugged first, the cleaning process of the tub and 3 filters, refilling the water and retest for chemicals. Even learning how to put the cover back on was a procedure (not just lowering the cover but that there was a lever to pull first). These guys were so professional, helpful and very friendly. I'm cheap and stubborn. So I figure, maintaining a pool? How hard can it be? It was challenging!!! It's not a full time job but definitely a part time job. I got a kit to test the water chemical and the pool system uses a liquid chlorinator so I have to find someone who sell liquid chlorine and that's how I found Sterling Pool. I never seen the owner but the dude there, Ye Vang is DA MAN!!!! I've been having problem with my pool here and there trying to balance the water chemical. After a while, I just start bringing water over for Ye to test for me. In less than 5 mins. He got everything done and gave me a list of what I need to do. So I do exactly what he told me and the water in the pool is crystal blue (literally, it glitters!). I used to go to OSH to buy liquid chlorine cause theirs are like much cheaper but now I'm willing to pay the extra money because I got free advice from Ye. Thus, even though it costs more at Sterling, but Ye's service has made a cheapskate like me become a big spender... I buy 2 cases of liquid chlorine, stabilizer and everything else. My sweeper was getting entangled every day. Called Sterling and paid $100+ for a visit. Homan said the pressure is too high (even though the sweeper has been working great for 2-3 years). He reduced pressure. It got worse. He came again and reduced pressure again. It got worse. He then didn't want to come again and told me to reduce pressure... I got another service company to come in: apparently the problem was the exact opposite(!): pressure was too low because there were debris in the filter. Their entire service cost me $63. read more

Sterling Pool Service. The best thing that's happened to us in 2020. Our pool sweep was on its last legs... er, hoses. We tried to save money by patching the holes in it but finally decided we needed a new hose. Sterling's store manager, Mr Ye Vang, was more than helpful. He immediately ordered the hose that we needed, and when it arrived the next day, he assembled it free of charge. He checked all the other parts, replaced what was needed, cleaned what didn't need to be replaced and saved us more than half the cost of having to buy a new pool sweep. He knew what he was doing and he was SO VERY NICE and FRIENDLY! We will never go anywhere else for our pool supplies! I might add that we first went to Leslie's Pool Service in Mtn View. How impressed am I with this company right now? Beyond words. Hey all you wannabe handymen (I'm one of them)...sometimes it's better (and less expensive) to hire professionals to do the job. I lost power to my hot tub. After watching youtube videos and determining that it was the plug and not the outlet, I figured I would try fixing it. Once I realized I was way out of my league and would have either electrocuted myself or forever damaged my hot tub, I called Sterling Pool after finding that they did service calls for hot tubs. I called them on Tuesday. Ramon came out on Thursday afternoon, and he confirmed it was the plug. He gave me a quote for the part which was about the same that I found online so I told him to order it. He calls me about an hour later and tells me he found a generic version of the part for much cheaper. Yes please!!! It also arrived much quicker. It's now Friday (the day after) afternoon and my hot tub is working perfectly. He also replaced the outlet which was outdated. This cost me about the same had I ordered the parts online and did it myself. Ramon is a true professional and a really freaking nice guy. We had a nice conversation and he worked quickly and efficiently. I'm amazed how easy this was...and how difficult this would have been if I tried to do it myself. Take my advice...sometimes it's way better to let the professionals do the job. And by the way, Ramon was very conscientious in regards to being masked and Covid-19 aware. Yes, I got it, he couldn't figure out the part number by only looking at the filter bottom clamp I brought in, But I clearly told him I am willing to pay the returning fee in case the part doesn't fit. He refused to work with me, said, 'I know you would not pay the returning fee", I can't understand why he had to humiliate a customer who just asked a few more questions? I was with my previous pool service for almost 20 years; during that time there have been issues but I was able to work through them. Six months ago they hiked their price 20%, and I decided it might be time for a change. I chose Sterling because of a recommendation and great Yelp reviews. Sterling's cost was a few dollars higher than my previous service's new price, but the service manager convinced me that Sterling's service was superior and pointed out several small things that he said needed to be corrected. (As it turned out, not all were actual issues.) Sterling's service has been fine, as far as I can tell. I have decided to return to my old service, however, because almost every month my bill from Sterling includes a surprise charge for parts and/or service. Sterling has never initiated any communication, including when some tiles came off and were left on a table by the pool. Sterling's first response to my call was that the pool guy had found them on the bottom of the pool. After they checked on it internally, I was told that they had come off during cleaning, which happens sometimes when the tiles get old, and they'd send someone out to put them back. That is perfectly understandable but I would have appreciated being (a) called, (b) given that response the first time, and (c) not received another surprise service charge on my monthly invoice. (To their credit, they removed that charge and I do appreciate that.) Sterling, I gave you four stars because it seems you have nailed the pool service part of your business. It's great that you have so many satisfied customers. However, I think I'm a better match with a smaller, more communicative and less arrogant service for my small residential pool. I like being called with a heads-up when something extra is needed and being able to buy my own parts if I wish. read more

Poor customer service and arrogant owner. My main beef was their spa heater "service" turns out to be their guys unscrewing six screws and vacuuming out some leaves. Apparently this ten minute exercise comes at a "standard cost" of $145. Nice work if you can get it! When I spoke the owner and expressed my surprise at this there was absolutely no interest from him in coming to some agreement, which even if he'd waived the entire charge would only have made an ~10% dent on the bill. The re-plumbing they did was good in the end but partly only because I was there to stop them from moving my DE filter 6" into a walkway. (I figured out a better, more compact way to arrange it.) The owner had the temerity to say they were doing me a favor by not charging for me having an input! The rest of the bill contained replacement parts at a 40-150% markup over buying in a store. I was told a replacement Polaris bag would be $40; they're $15 online. I canceled my monthly service. Having shopped around there are plenty cheaper, and less obnoxious. read more

I'm a newbie when it comes to pool maintenance, but these people are the experts. The shop is small with limited supplies and parts. The bulk of their business is more than likely in servicing pools instead. This is the best way to learn the ins and outs of the business. Both times that I walked into the store, Ye was there to greet me. He had answered my questions when I walked in the first time, and he was there to answer my questions the second time. Give him a pool symptom, and he'll give you a diagnosis. If he can't solve your problem at the store, he or one of his guys can make a service call. Often times, dedicated employees help to make a business successful. Ye is such an employee. He's there Monday - Saturday, so if you have a question about your pool, go see him. He gets to have a day off on Sunday, when the store is closed. read more

If I could give 6 stars to Sterling Pool I would! We have an above ground pool and it's hard finding people to service it. Our old pool heater was dead and after our pool cleaning guy was having no luck getting timely help through his contacts we contacted Sterling to see if they could help. Homan answered promptly and was able to come out a couple days later to diagnose and give the estimate for a new heater. Price was very competitive but even better they could do the installation the next week, a holiday week no less. They came when they said they would and fixed it in no time. It's so hard to find good home service providers, and I really wish Homan and his crew were full-on handymen ;) but for pools they are definitely terrific to do business with! read more

I stopped using Sterling Pool initially to save a few bucks in the Winter since the amount of work to maintain it isn't much since we wouldn't use the pool. When I took measurements on the pool myself I found that the numbers were not where they should be. CYA (Cyanuric Acid - This keeps sunlight from breaking down the Free Chlorine in your pool) was at 55, which is just too high. TA (Total Alkalinity - will affect how much your pool water will swing in Ph) was at 130 (again too high), Ph was around 8 (high-ish) and CH (Calcium Hardness - too high can cause buildup of calcium in the plumbing and on the pool walls/floor) was at 550 (again, quite high). Water in our area is known for being quite hard so it's pretty common for TA, Ph and CH to be on the high side but it can be maintained. CYA on the other hand is based on how much you put in your pool. Some folks like to use those dichlor/triclor tablets instead of liquid chlorine as it's convenient and safer to use in general. However, these tablets contain CYA. Use them too much and they will cause your pool's CYA levels to climb too high and the only way to bring it down is to drain the pool water and replace it. I had noticed that our floater was in the pool quite often and suddenly they took it out. I now see why - but it was caught too late. What too much CYA does is it make less and less of the Free Chlorine available so you have potentially more problems with keeping algea and bacteria in check. Also, during the course of our maintenance under Sterling Pools the tiles on our spa were damaged due to their personnel walking on the edge of the waterfall area that separates the spa from the pool. I had called to report this and just asked that they tell their crew to not walk there any more and I was told that there's no chance they were doing that. I actually work from home quite often and I had seen this being done multiple times with my own eyes. Not to mention our security cameras had it recorded as well. I had the damaged repaired at my own cost and thankfully it didn't happen again. They also put a pretty significant markup on parts they change during the course of maintaining things. It's nice that they take care of minor parts during regular service but it's not cheap. All in all, I don't think I'd recommend these guys for regular pool maintenance. EDIT: As you can see from their response, they would rather not acknowledge that the service done was not optimal and instead attack me personally. It's clearly not the value for optimal free chlorine levels, which is my complaint. 55 is higher than it should be. It depends on what chlorine levels you maintain in your pool with studies showing diminishing returns after 25ppm and may slow down the rate of bacterial elimination. From what I saw in the owner's response it seems that they would still be adding di/trichlor tablets in my pool causing the CYA to rise even more since it's under 100. In case you're curious what your pool chemical levels should be, here's a well-respected site that can help educate anyone interested: https://www.troublefreepool.com/content/134-recommended-levels The TA and CH levels can climb over time as more and more material is left behind as water evaporates. City tap water is buffered and ground water in California is typically hard to begin with so chances are it will climb in most cases in our state. The problem with a higher TA is it becomes more and more difficult to bring the Ph and CH down. You actually want a TA value high enough to keep your Ph stable but the higher it goes the more difficult it is to change. Yet the owner even states the ideal range is 80-120 and says 130 isn't too high? CH at 550 is about double what it should be. I was never told we needed to drain/refill our pool, which is actually the solution we chose. Regarding the tiles being damaged, I have no problem reaching the entire wall and floor of the pool and spa without coming close to the tiles in any way, much less walking on the edge of the spa. It is a false statement to say "the only way for the service techs to reach the overflow wall and clean the tiles is to reach over divider wall". This was my one and ONLY complaint until this review - the owner isn't telling the truth in saying "we could do no right to satisfy the new owners from day one". I'm betting most people don't complain because they don't check their pool chemicals themselves - they are trusting their service provider to do this properly. Had a broken hot tub pump. Inspection was prompt and was quoted a pretty high price, but reasonable enough (Spa's are expensive to own I guess). Didn't have the part and so they ordered it. When part arrived it was the wrong part, repair guy said no problem and no extra charge, and a couple of days later the right part came in and the pump was fixed. However, after the replacement my hot tub now has a leak, and whenever I try and call Sterling I am unable to get a hold of them, or unable to get an estimate on when they can come to repair the leak. UPDATE: Shortly after filing this review got the response I was looking for. They fixed leak for the price of parts and a minor labor charge, replaced the water in the spa and treated. Was patient with my questions.
