I just had Freedom Pool Service (also called Poole, Etc) do a repair for me. As always, they are a pleasure to work with. Their staff is knowledgeable and takes the time to make sure you understand what needs to be done, what was done, how to maintain your system, etc. This time I had Alan and Jose come out to do the repair. I've also had Alex come out and he is fantastic as well. I needed to have a pump replaced and a part in my heater done. Not only did they diagnose it, but the guys also caught some problems and fix them proactively without an extra charge. Requested a pump warranty assessment only. No service appointment was ever scheduled or confirmed through their Indian call center. While I was out of the country, a technician entered my property without permission - jumping a locked gate - and performed unapproved work (cleaning a pool filter). They then attempted to invoice $125 for that service. Worse, the pump - the original reason for the visit- was improperly sealed, causing the system to draw in air and putting the pump at risk of damage. We have used this company for at least 15 years and never had a problem until it was taken over by new ownership. Ever since we have had nothing but problems(billing issues, expensive repairs), and the price to clean our very small spa has gone up almost 50% to $130 per week (Seriously, we are 5 minutes from the office and it takes the guy 10 minutes to clean it). We had a pump for the jets replaced last year and it has not functioned properly for several months now. Long story short, it is still not working and we are getting the run-around. Pools Etc. started off well and generally does a good job so long as your pool has no technical issues or trouble shooting. They often send a different tech out weekly so if you have any areas that need attention it often doesn't carry over from one maintenance pool person to the other and your having to explain everything over again since there is a communication lapse between there management in Menlo Park, there pool maintenance personnel and Nino the supervising field manager. Getting a return call can take days and will be greeted with a recording to send an email which may or may not be responded to. Rather than a return call Nino will respond with an email generated by Chat GPT or other AI with general advice as he is just to busy to focus on more than the basics of sweep, check chemicals and go. When Nino finally agreed to come out, he failed to show up and instead sent the routine maintenance guy who was clueless then upon my attempts to follow-up Nino wouldn't respond for days and when I finally did heard back from him after several follow ups he complained with attitude how busy he was with his service area extending from the South Bay to the Mid peninsula and that he is just to busy and clearly annoyed. I just completely remodeled my 25 year old pool and paid them an $1,100 start up fee to get the pool chemicals stabilized upon refilling it a couple of months ago. You would hope to get treated with some courtesy. Certain pool items require some technical knowledge and expertise. There support just isn't there and doesn't happen in a reasonable time frame. The office people are kind and responsive but it is difficult for them to reach the field techs when you need any kind of support or technical expertise. Nino often won't reply for days so If you just want pool maintenance that's simple there OK but anything requiring technical skills, mechanical repairs or advice on the phone is going to be a challenge. If your looking for a full service pool company this definitely not the company you want to rely on as there business model is based on high volume maintenance not hands on customer service, technical support or repairs. When I expressed my frustration Nino sent me a text stating "Good Riddance". A real disappointment if you need someone go the extra mile or ask for more than basic maintenance. Clark F. read more
