I went in to see if they had a doc on site to check my eyes. They don't but Michael the owner/optician was there. He gave me a recommendation of a good local eye doctor. I sat on my current glasses earlier in the day. Even though I didn't get them there he fixed them (at my own risk, understandably) since they were wire frames. They fit great again. I realized I should have asked him what I owe him. (I forgot!) He was super friendly and seemed happy to be of help, which made me want to write this review. They have some really nice frames too. I will definitely consider Sterling when I am ready for new glasses. read more

I just moved full-time to Rehoboth and needed an adjustment to my glasses, so after reading the good reviews on Sterling Optical, I stopped in. They refused to help me because the pair that needed to be adjusted were from Warby Parker. The person who helped me (NOT) said I purchased them on line and it was company policy not to adjust any on line purchase. Truth is I purchased the glasses at the WP storefront in DC. I explained and asked why and she said it's company policy not to adjust any frames purchased on line. I asked why and she snippily said she wasn't the owner. Fail: Sterling Optical. Not only do you not listen to your customers, but you failed to get my business for my next purchase of glasses and the same for my family. read more

My husband buys his glasses here very good experience. I bought a pair of Fysh at another Sterling and when I went in there to have them adjusted I was told they only service what they sold. And I did see a sign stating that right on the front door. I offered to pay then he just went and fixed them. I guess being in a tourist area it gets to be old when you continually are expected to service people who are never going to actually buy any thing from you. Why not just charge a nominal fee? I would love to hear the side of the story with the attitude. To the reviewer Karen B. I would encourage you to drive by and see the sign in the window. Long story short, it's annoying being told one thing over the phone and another thing in person. I completely understand a company not wanting to fix something they didn't sell and I have no problem with it. But to drive through tourist traffic on route 1 after being told to come in and then not being helped is very inconvenient. Long story: Called Sterling Optical and asked if they could help putting a lens back in my sunglasses. Told them I bought them somewhere else and they said that was fine. When I got there, I was told immediately "we don't do Ray Ban because Lens Crafters owns them" (sounded like total BS, but I'm not in the eyewear industry so I don't know). I asked to speak to Kim as she was the one who instructed me to come in. Kim came out and said she didn't realize they were Ray Ban and started saying the frame was warped. The frame looked fine, it was just a lens that popped out, and the whole thing started to sound like they didn't want to help after learning it was a frame by Ray Ban. It's also a little frustrating that I reminded them at the store that I purchased the pair in Baltimore while I was living in MD but they said twice, "you will just have to go back to where you purchased them." At that point, it felt like they were just trying to get me to leave. Either way, I'm not driving 2-3 hours to get help with putting a lens back in. I decided to go to Delaware Eye Optical up the street on route 24. They were nice, greeted me when I came in, and told me they'd see what they can do. They fixed my sunglasses and didn't charge me anything for the service. Suffice to say, when I am due for my next prescription pair of glasses or sunglasses, I will be taking my business there as opposed to Sterling Optical. read more

The folks here have been nothing short of outstanding, at least from my experience. I've purchased a few pairs of glasses from them, and I've had them repair a set of glasses after they were run over accidentally. All of my interactions with them have been pleasant and they have been very helpful. I plan to keep going back, and have no problem sending my friends and family here as well. read more

The old man who runs this place is incredibly rude and downright nasty if you try to have your glasses adjusted and did not buy them there.

I'm on vacation and my eyeglasses had literally begun to fall apart. A quick web search turned up this Sterling Optical location so I called to ask if they did walk- in repairs. The friendly response was "Bring them in and we'll take a look!" With no appointment needed. At the store I spoke with Michael Donohoe, who took a look and asked me, "You have 15 minutes?" He completed the repair in no time flat, returning my like-new glasses and charging a small fraction of what I thought I'd end up paying. I live several hours away but stay in Rehoboth for a while every summer - and now I'm confident that I've found a friendly, competent, professional (and reasonably priced) optometry business I can count on when I'm in the area. read more

We have been customers of Mike Donohoe at Sterling Optical for at least 10 years and he has treated us like old friends since the first time we walked in the door. Mike bends over backwards to give his customers the best service and the best prices available. His staff is always friendly and helpful. It is very hard to find glasses to fit my son's face and Mike helped us figure out what would work best. Three out of four in our family, in addition to my mom, have purchased glasses from Sterling Optical. My husband will be next, as soon as I can drag him to the eye doctor for a new prescription. read more

My optometrist suggested purchasing glasses here. They were very helpful when I was picking out frames and placing my order. After picking them up, I saw that the frame was bent. They let me keep them and ordered a new pair. They called to say the frame was no longer available, even though I had just received them. The frame was available in another color. I was given the option of taking the new color or choosing new frames. I couldn't find any new frames that I liked and eventually just chose the new color because I didn't feel like there was another choice. When they put the lenses into the new frame, they scratched them (and blamed the manufacturer), so now they've ordered new lenses to put into the frames I don't like. When I asked if they could call other Sterling stores to see if they had my original frame, I was told they probably wouldn't because they all do their own ordering. Glasses are really expensive to not like them on day one. read more

Not sure what happened to other reviewer but they were very gracious adjusting my glasses which were purchased elsewhere.

Horrible customer service. I went to have my glasses adjusted, the lady said she wouldn't even touch anything that was not bought from the store. Her attitude were pretty clear that she didn't even want to hear anything about glasses adjustment. In desperation I found another place on Baltimore Avenue that was gladly do the adjustment with no fuss at all. As I'm visiting from another state, this is not the first time I had to have my glasses adjusted. Any capable eye 'tech' could have done it a minute- Walmart included. read more
