I stopped by this place to try and find some audio cables, it was an eye opening experience...the building in which these people do business is a dump...there is junk everywhere inside and out...piles of crap everywhere, it's like they don't have a garbage can...while the product I'm searching for can be found elsewhere this was nearby...I didn't stay long as it was smelly and very unsanitary...as I was leaving I took a good look around to notice the poor condition of the building and enough trash outside to fill a rumpke truck...what are these people thinking? read more

I have nothing but good experiences with Stereo Advantage. I bought my office music system from them; they installed it; they've serviced it. Never a problem with the skills nor the people. They returned with my speakers with replaced surrounds, refitted them into my cabinets and they are as good as new. We tried them out with some Hendrix, awesome! These guys seriously rock!!! Oh, both visits and the reinstall took place over a few days. read more

Despicable. I was so excited to drop off of an old record player to be tuned up. When I came in, the guy didn't even smile of greet me in a friendly manner. A few days later, he calls me and tells me it's ready to be picked up. He wanted almost $70.00 to lubricate the belt!! I asked him, how much do you think this is worth, he says: $125-150. I ask "why would I pay half that to get a simple tune up?". Then he calls me the next day about 5 TIMES IN A ROW while I was working (he even tries calling from a different #) and only leaves a voicemail on the last call. CREEPS. read more

I started buying stereo equipment from Dave at Stereo Advantage in 1982. I bought an AIWA cassette which lasted 13 years. I special ordered an SAE TWO amp/ preamp from them in 1984 which I still own and works perfectly and sounds better than my top of the line Sansui. Dave is the best and they also repair items perfectly and at a very reasonable price. They sell everything from car stereos to receivers and speakers. Stereo ADV went through a change in ownership/management sometime back and just isn't worth going to anymore. I used to go out of my way to purchase electronics and get repairs from them because their staff was knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. I don't know a whole lot about electronics or setting up computer/entertainment systems. In the the past they were very willing to explain to me what I needed to purchase and then once I did that explain how I should set it up at home. It was a great and I ended up buying several thousand dollars worth of equipment from there. Fast forward to this year, the receiver they recommended and I purchased from them stopped working. So, I took it into them for repair. After keeping it for 6 months telling me they were waiting for a part that was on order I decided to just pick the item up and purchase a new one from them. I needed a new remote for my system and that they had it in stock so I thought what the heck. That changed however when I got there and they snarkily told me that they weren't able to repair it because it was 'junk.' That a broken machine was what I get for purchasing equipment made abroad. Maybe that is true but I only bought it because they highly recommended it, sold it to me, and guaranteed they could repair it if anything happened. Needless to say I would not return. There is no reason to support a business that treats their customers poorly and apparently sells 'junk' when there are so many great local businesses around. read more

Since 1985, I have bought and serviced literally every piece of stereo equipment I've owned at Stereo ADV (formerly known as Stereo Advantage). Under its previous owner and until recent years, this was THE BEST place in town to buy, sell, or repair anything from your high-end McIntosh amp to your grandma's Victrola. OH HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED. For the first time in years, I stopped by the shop to take my amp in for repairs. The "showroom"--which used to be an audiophile's playground of amps, speakers, turntables, components, and TVs, all neatly organized and showcased in three separate rooms--now consists of heaps of random equipment, stacked high in hoarder piles like the towering skyscrapers of garbage in WALL-E. The new proprietor, who seems like a friendly guy, looked at my amp, talked to me about it, and gave me an estimate for the repair. A week later, I receive a call from the repairman himself, and--holy crap--this guy... He starts out by asking "what the hell I did" to the amp, and then insisting that I had lost the function selector bezel. I told him it was on the amp when I'd brought it in, which it was. He then said "I gotta go" and hung up. A few days go by and I get a call from the owner. The amp was done but the cost was more than twice what he'd estimated. At no time before that did I receive a call from the shop saying, "Here's what's wrong with your amp, and this is going to be the actual cost of repairing it." They just went ahead and did it. Imagine dropping off your car for new brakes and finding out that they'd gone ahead replaced the transmission while they were at it. So I go in to pick the thing up and the repairman is behind the counter. He tells me that he bought a new function selector bezel--that he can sell me for $40. When I tell him no, he says "You're going to realize that you were a damned idiot for not buying it." In hindsight, he was right. I was a damned idiot for letting that shyster near my stereo. I love this place, I really do! They carry all sorts of vintage radios, receivers, turntables, and speakers here. The selection is varied . . and there are many hidden jewels here. :) They've fixed turntables for me, sold me a great set of wood speakers, and a sweet Technics turntable.
