From the super helpful, patient and friendly front office staff, to the amazing dental hygienists and Dr. Todd, it was just a great experience . What stood out to me was that nothing was rushed, I never felt rushed , Dr. Todd took his time, Katrina (I hope I got her name right) took her time with a thorough cleaning and good conversation, and yet at the same time it was efficient and I never waited for anything or for the next person to arrive to assist me, They all knew my name , warmly handed me off between Dr. and hygenists.. it's a big office with many patients , but I never once felt that. It felt like a personalized experience . I felt like I was the only person there. I also have a lot of dental anxiety and everyone was so careful and sweet and conscientious about this . The office staff was friendly & I didn't wait long in the waiting room. The hygienist was gentle & thorough. She took X-rays, too. Dr Cho's dental assistant was also friendly & professional. He took an impression of one of my broken teeth & explained that the second tooth would be taken care of at a following appointment. I mentioned that the sound of the dental drill set my nerves on end. He suggested some earphones with my preferred music might help. He set that up. Dr. Cho came in to prepare my tooth for a crown. He was gentle, informative, professional, & friendly. I left the office with only slight numbing & a lot of confidence that I was well-taken care of. I will actually look forward to going to the dentist as long as I go to Dr Cho & his staff.

During my last appointment, I told the front desk associate (who seemed new) that I no longer wanted to continue paying for the Smile Generation dental plan they sell to patients, and I asked if she could please tell me the self-pay cost for a routine cleaning and exam. She didn't know. (hmmm...) She asked if she could call me back with the information, which never happened. This was months ago, and with my next cleaning coming up next week, I called again today to ask the same question. I spoke with Darlene, who first needed to look up my file before answering -- which already felt a little odd considering I was just asking for standard pricing information. I again explained that I no longer wanted to use the Smile Generation plan, and she told me the self-pay cost for a cleaning and exam would be $430. FOURHUNDREDANDTHIRTYAMERICANDOLLARS. ROUTINE CLEANING AND EXAM. (sorry I'll stop shouting). Even at the bougiest dental office I've ever gone to, self-pay pricing for a routine cleaning and exam was closer to $250-$300. I didn't want to immediately cancel, so I said, "Okay, I'll just come in for the cleaning w/o exam this time," which would have been $140 for cleaning only. She said that was fine, but that going forward it would HAVE to be a full cleaning and exam. That really left a bad taste in my mouth. It started to feel less like patient care and more like I wasn't wanted there unless I could comfortably pay an exorbitant amount out of pocket every six months. I sat with this all day because I genuinely liked Dr. Matsuno and the techs here. But ultimately, what felt like a lack of transparency and the uncomfortable feeling I walked away with after hanging up today are causing me to seek care elsewhere. I understand this is a business, and businesses need to make money. I truly do. But I don't want to go somewhere that makes me feel uncomfortable for not being able to spend that kind of money on routine dental visits a couple times a year. Respectfully, I think there needs to be a realistic middle ground on their pricing and expectation of what non-insured patients are willing to spend. And for me, that's NOT $430 every few months.

I especially enjoy coming here because I feel that the treatment I receive is good but without the fluff, upselling, pressure and fear mongering other dentists seem to engage in to boost sales under the guise of treatment. Pricing is fair and there are never any surprises. I hate the dentist but don't mind coming here... it's almost even enjoyable - something I've never been able to say in the various places I've visited in the past! And the snaggle tooth I had for 38 years is gone.
