Unclear communication about what fillings I was supposed to have done (ended up with 3 more than I…read morethought I was going to get?!), my teeth hurt so much more after these fillings than ever before, and one of the fillings they put in chipped (although at least when I went in, they didn't charge me to fix the filling). Now looking for a different dentist because of very limited scheduling options with this dentist.

I went to Campus Walk Dental for a cleaning after moving to Durham and needing to establish care…read morewith a new dentist. The cleaning was standard. However, during the cleaning Dr. Pilon told me that I needed to get "preventative fillings" as I had some dark spots that would "eventually" turn into cavities. I was a bit puzzled as I had only had 1-2 cavities in my entire life before this, but not wanting to question a doctor's authority, I scheduled a follow-up to get some of these "cavities" filled a few weeks later. When I went back to get my cavities filled, I was surprised that Dr. Pilon ending up doing 3-4 fillings. It was not communicated well with me what was going to be done and I found myself surprised at the price of the service. Following this appointment, I experienced a good deal of pain where the cavities had been filled which seemed unusual to me as I hadn't had this experience with fillings in the past. Weeks following the appointment, I found I could not chew on the side of mouth where the fillings had been done. They were sensitive to hold/cold and I resorted to only chewing food on one side of my mouth as a result. I waited for the pain to go away but it never did. Finally, last week I was flossing my teeth and one of the fillings popped right out. I was stunned. I promptly scheduled an appointment at another dentist who told me that the technique used by Dr. Pilon was mediocre at best, and that I would eventually need to get the fillings re-done to prevent further pain. The staff at this 2nd dentist also told me that my teeth looked beautiful and they could not imagine that I would need any fillings whatsoever, and especially not the amount that Dr. Pilon told me that I needed. Now I will have to pay to get them all re-done. Overall, I feel that was gypped out of my money with the guise of needing multiple fillings that were completely unnecessary. And not only that, they were done poorly and left me in pain for months. I would not recommend this practice to anyone. This is not from a place of trying to tear this business down, but rather to prevent others from having this same experience.

I had booked an appointment months in advance. Because the hours changed, my previously booked appointment was no longer available. Shame on me for not rebooking earlier. I never received an email but I (maybe?) vaguely remember a text at some point. I called 9/27 to verify my appointment for 9/28 and I was told it was cancelled due to the change in hours. Totally fine. I asked to reschedule. The person over the phone said "There's still an available slot for 2p." To which I replied, "That's perfect." And thus concluded our conversation. Fast forward to today, 9/28, and I arrive 10 minutes before my appointment only to be told that it was scheduled for tomorrow 9/29. I drive almost an hour to get to my appointment because I like the clinical staff, (and I don't feel like I'm being judged for my teeth). I also work 12 hour night shifts and have to actively work my schedule around appointments to ensure I'm getting ample sleep and can drive safely. But text alerts or even emails confirming times and dates would be greatly appreciated. Whatever miscommunication was had during our conversation today could have easily been mitigated by a confirmatory email/text.

I usually don't take the time to write a review, but I thought I should make an exception here, and…read morehere's the reason. Over a year ago, I had two dental implants done by Dr. Cataldo. I was then already truly impressed by his skills, but especially by his caring attitude, his willingness to spend as much time as I needed to explain to me the how and why of the procedures that he was going to do on me. I should have then written a glowing review about the visit, but I didn't, primarily because from reading everything that had been written about him and his practice, almost all were very positive! I thought adding another one would just be redundant. Then most recently, when I was about to have crowns put on the implants, the dentist who worked on me when I was sojourning in the West Coast had noticed that the bones that had been grafted for the implants had - for lack of a better word - receded somewhat, and I had to spend money to get it fixed, money that I didn't have. I went back to Dr. Cataldo who was so kind as to do additional grafting at no charge. I thought that spoke volumes as to the kind of orthodontist he was. And lest I forget, I want to mention also that his practice is surrounded by a group of very congenial and caring staff, all very friendly, all embracing. I do appreciate the care I had received. I just had the new tooth attached to the post and I am overwhelmed how much better my mouth and overall health have improved.
