We were sent here by recommendation from Medlock Ames. It was a random last stop before dinner and it ended up being a wonderful experience. Set right in downtown healdsburg, super convenient location and a small but clean and bright interior. Our hosts name was Sarah, I'm pretty sure (I must've asked her twice) and she was delightful. We didn't even realize the tasting would be complimentary with our referral card, so that was a bonus. I felt so bad we didn't get to purchase anything because we had to get to dinner and I couldn't tip Sarah as we had no cash. I hope someone sees this review to give her the recognition she deserves, because she was amazing. What started as a casual, last minute tasting for just me (my fiancé was DD) she made it fun, informative and special. It was my birthday and Sarah treated me like a princess, with a little brownie candle as well as an educational tasting experience. I like this place. I was a member last year and really enjoy thier Cabs. All their wines are pretty pricey, but all are good. Cabs are $64, their port about the same and their sauvignon blanc is $28. Tastings (@$10pp) are free if you buy a bottle, which is nice. They have some nice pottery which I bought my mom in their store. Definitely worth a visit to the store if you are already in downtown Healdsburg, maybe before heading out to dinner. read more

No thanks! We walked in and were ignored by the tasting room staff person. When we asked about their wines we were told They have reds. No kidding? Red wines at a tasting room? What a ridiculous statement. Likely the staff should be trained more in their wines if that is all they have to say about them. I discovered Stephen & Walker several years ago, and I have been a wine club member ever since. Consistently, Nancy Walker produces amazing wines, and my favorites tend to be her big&bold reds. The Oak Knoll and Howell Mountain Cabernets are unbelievably delicious, along with the Petite Syrah and a very drinkable Zinfandel. Her Pinot Noir's are very nice, but I am not a particular fan of Pinot's so my opinion would be skewed on those. I brought some out-of-the-Country visitors (from Osaka, Japan who LOVE wine) this last visit and they commented how much they enjoyed the wines, and the thoughtful cheese pairings. I can taste why Stephen & Walker wins so many gold ribbons and awards for their amazing wines! read more

Stephen & Walker was a wonderfully pleasant surprise, and Mary, the woman who poured our wine, is simply a delightful person. I've been to ~30 wineries in my five years in Northern California, and Stephen & Walker's sauvignon blanc is one of the better values I've tasted. As good as many $50 bottles from wineries in Spring Mountain, at a much more palatable price point. The rose was a treat (as was the story behind the bottle!), and their much-awarded Botrytis is worth all the fuss. Absolutely speechless, this place is phenomenal! Jordann in the tasting room was absolutely outstanding and I highly recommend you go and see her, she will show you the best of the best! Very knowledgeable staff that is also friendly. A little on the salesman side, but not too bad. Did a tasting of 10 and they were ALL good. On the expensive side, but you can taste why. Their white dessert wine, Patrona, is sooo delicious -- not too syrupy at all. Visited this Tasting Room today. We were told we couldn't sit at a Table but needed to sit at the Bar because the Employee had Problems with her Foot & couldn't walk over to a Table. She was very rude, so we felt we could secure better service at another Establishment, so we walked. We were very pleased with the Service at Mateo's across the street! We were very embarrassed by the poor service as we are entertaining out of State guests and this was such a negative impression of California-shame on her!!!!! read more

We had an excellent experience here. Date day for my husband and I and no kids - it's a rare occasion! This was our first stop. I had booked through Yelp after reading the great reviews. The wine was excellent, we loved every single wine we tried. The cheese pairing with the wine was amazing and I just loved that extra aspect of the tasting. It added so much more to the flavor. The woman helping us was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. We purchased a bottle and they waived the tasting for us! We have discussed joining their wine club after our kids are a little bit older. We so wish we had the extra funds right now to do it, but this would be our first choice! You don't want to miss this Hidden Gem in Sonoma! We love Sonoma and enjoy our quarterly day trip to pick up our club wines. Each trip we visit a new winery and chose Stephen & Walker based on the amazing Yelp reviews and my personal desire to meet the Magnificent Mary that everyone raves about. When we arrived there were a few other guests at the tasting bar and I was thrilled to meet Mary. She greeted us like we were old friends and made us feel welcome as if we were in her living room. The gentleman sitting next to me said "you are going to love every one of the wines and I guarantee you will become members by the end of your visit." Boy was he right. We loved the wines and I think by the third taste we were already talking about the wine club! We became members, purchased wines to hold us over until we pick up our September shipment and raved about Stephen & Walker, and the lovely Mary, all the way home. I have to say, the wines are everything I hoped they would be and Mary, oh sweet wonderful amazing Mary, exceeded my expectations. She is truly Magnificent. My new favorite wine is the Howell Mountain Cab and it is spectacular! I highly recommend tasting and purchasing this lovely liquid masterpiece. I must also give a shout out to my other new found love, the Peitite Sirah. Both of these wines are amazing and should find a place in your wine collection. I'd make this your first stop in Healdsburg. They have some great wines that you can't get outside of the tasting room or direct orders. I'd never had Carignane until my visit here, and now I'm in love. I've looked for it elsewhere, and not only is it rare as a single varietal wine, the few alternatives I've found just don't compare. They also make a phenomenal Zinfandel and great Cabernet. At first I teased my wife for joining the membership - she was perhaps a bit tipsy from a day of tasting when she declared "This. Is. A. Good. Investment!" And she was right, we've been members for a few years now. Not only do we look forward to our shipments, but we've been known to order a little extra (always a hit at dinner parties). read more

Went here on a friday afternoon with my gf. There were only a couple others there. We were served by a guy who seemed a bit like a salesman. He told us some history about the wine makers and other facts while we tasted. The sauvignon blanc was the best white wine I've ever tasted. We decided to get a bottle and the guy waived both of our tasting fees ($10 each), which surprised me a little because of my first impression of him. Overall, great wine and great service. Not impressed - especially by the thin, treacly sweet and frankly awful 'Portentous'. Ugh. Give me a true port any day. We found this place by chance, after stopping into another tasting room in Healdsburg and asking if they make a zinfandel, and then being directed to Stephen & Walker. After trying their zins (they have two: Russian River and Dry Creek), we joined the wine club. The tasting room is mellow and the cheese plates are awesome. But back to the wine: their zinfandels are the best we've had. With the wine club discount they're about $30 a bottle so we save them for special occasions. I think we have tried every "old vine zin" out there, or pretty nearly every one; nothing has been as good. So we happily stop into the tasting room at least each time a wine club shipment is ready, and otherwise anytime we are in the neighborhood. I've been here a couple times, and actually found out about them by accident during a birthday party tasting room crawl a year back. S&W produces some of the nicest wines I've had on the square in Healdsburg. My favorite is their Monterey Pinot, I bought the 2005 last year for a Holiday Party and it was excellent, and the 2006 is stunning as well! The staff is very knowlegeble and fun to chat with! I'm a little bummed that Trace has left, he was a blast to talk with! There's something about a dude covered in Tats with Tons of Pinot Knowledge!
