This place is a gem. I made the fortunate mistake of walking into this place trying to get to Partake (nextdoor). I came back after dinner just because Mary was super nice when I walked in earlier. This would've been worth the $10 tasting fee, but that charge was waived because I bought some wine. Each and every wine was compelling on their own. Nancy Walker does an incredible job of creating delicious, well-balanced, unique wines. However, the guidance of, and interaction with Mary made it a completely enjoyable tasting experience. I stopped by a few days later because I couldn't resist picking up a few more bottles. This time, Deborah, the manager, helped me. She was equally enthusiastic and engaging as Mary. It's obvious that this is a company full of great people who are passionate about their work. I highly recommend this fantastic boutique winery. read more

I adore being a member. It is just one of those places where there is no bad wine. Super friendly gals. Breadsticks are to die for, especially after your 3rd or 4th tasting. They have expanded to doing a cheese tasting that goes with it. If you become a member, one of my favorite parts of the membership is the magnum bottle you get in November. Visited last December after hearing great things. The woman who poured for us sat on the phone for about five minutes in the office before she came out to great us. In my opinion no phone call is that important to not help/greet a guest especially in December when you probably see around 10-15 people on a given day. Also the office faced the tasting room so she saw us. I tasted two Sauvignon Blancs side by side one from Dry Creek and the other from Sonoma Coast. I enjoyed the Sonoma Coast more because of the great amount of acidity. Their Pinot Noir and Petite Sirah were good as well, but nothing really impressed me. It really wasn't the wine, but the service. Throughout the pouring she kept talking about the wine club and how many people they have. I have no problem with staff talking and promoting their wine club, but you need to show above and beyond service first. Don't just tell me you have so many...show me why they have all signed up. read more

Big groups get preferential treatment which is understandable. Kind of frustrating when the host presents wine to the large group, then tends to me with "you heard what I told them right?" Wine is delicious. Cheese pairing is delightful. Service is meh. read more

Normally I shy away from fabricated, new-looking places. With its central location just off the Plaza in Healdsburg, I initially walked by the Stephen & Walker tasting room and dismissed it as touristy junk. Holy moly -- was I wrong! Walk in and try all of their wines, top to bottom. Both the wines and the staff embody how I feel about wine. It's not about the hoity-toity description of aromas and bouquets and terroir. It's about what tastes good to you and what floats **your** boat. This means something different to everyone. They'll do a flight of their zins, have you taste blindly to see which style/vineyard location is your favorite. They'll pair with cheeses or sweets. They'll chat and walk you through the wines and make sure you have a great time. It's a genuine, family-run place that just wants to make top-quality wine that tastes damn good. Open until 7 on weekends, the tasting is $10. But, depending on what's on the list I've seen up to 8 wines available (and it's free for 2 tasters if you make a purchase). Bottles start around $30 and up to $65 for the spectacular Cab and a Port. Not a cheapie-everyday wine, but something to savor with good friends and a good meal. read more

This is the Best Winery in Healdsburg! We had a birthday celebration last week and ended up trying out Stephen and Walker. Our group is very wine friendly and knowledgeable and I must say WE WERE BLOWN AWAY!! The wines are to die for, super rich and ultra high quality- they have so many Gold Medals on their wines it is amazing. I loved the private table, extra attention and the cheese pairing we were offered. The owner- Nancy even gave us a private tasting. It was the best experience at a winery yet. I was peeved when the lady in the tasting room didn't inform the 5 of us that there was a $10 tasting fee AFTER we had completed the tasting ... however, the wine I tasted here was my favorite of the random 6 we tasted that day. Plus the pours were also the biggest. So, upon purchasing a bottle of amazing (pricey) Sauvignon Blanc, our fees were waived. Stephen & Walker creates boutique wine. And, yes, I felt like a snob whilst tasting. But the flavors were so good that the wines don't have to be best enjoyed with food. Better enjoyed in a, say, a boutique? Some surprisingly bold flavored wines, or at least what I thought would be bold (like the Zin), were actually really nice, subtle, delectable, and drinkable. And the label is reeeeally beautiful. Best wine in Sonoma imho, and given the innumerable awards they've won, in the opinion of quite a few others as well. Stephen & Walker (husband and wife) don't own vineyards, they let select growers provide the fruit and then work magic. All their wines are superb, but the Cab and Port really stood out for me. If you are in Healdsburg and bewildered by the dozens of wine tasting rooms, by all means make S&W one of your stops. Cheers! read more

Favorite tasting room in Downtown Healdsburg. After hopping in and out of about eight different tasting rooms in the downtown area, Stephen & Walker triumphed over the rest. Simple and well maintained venue, staff that made you feel like family, a delicious set of wines that will make your taste buds convince your mind to buy everything you have tasted. We came for a tasting event so in addition to the already stellar perks there was live music and complimentary sliders. After my tasting tour of downtown I found the one! I held back in ordering futures or buying bottles from the other wineries because i was waiting for that special one. Then came the 2013 Posy Sonoma County Rose future..... the perfect spring/summer wine: light yet bold in flavor; hint of fruitful notes; a Rose that will force you to have an affair with your favorite Pinot. I was ecstatic to find out that they had this pre-released and freshly bottled. I almost peed my pants. Let the affair begin. Other notables: Great Zin & Pinot selection. Beware you will fall for the Rose. read more

I predict that Stephen & Walker will owe its success to recent international trade agreements. These agreements have nothing to do with importation limits. Instead they place limits on domestic products...yes, it has been mandated that only Portugal produces port. This is where Stephen & Walker come in with their wittily named "Portentous" wine. It's so portentous, in fact, that it doesn't taste that much like a port; that's fine by me, because I find them too sweet anyway. Whatever the taste..."Portentous" has got to trump port. This is a new winery, so new that it hasn't had its grand opening yet. They feature a total of 4 wines. It looks like they are still setting up, but the current layout isn't that exciting. I did in fact like the "Portentous," but it's difficult to trust my judgment as it was late in a long wine tasting day (and I don't really know what I'm talking about). read more

A wine created by a woman with a staff of friendly women pouring with wine that was made for women. These are distinct wines that are made with hints of chocolate, flower and citrus notes. Enough said? We are part of their wine club and although it would be nice to offer these to our guests, I have to say that they'll just have to go themselves to try all of them. We just really like them. Their tasting room is in a good spot in Healdsburg too to pop in when you're in town. We just went to their members only tasting to pick up our wines that are typically shipped to us and it was nice to pair them with their tasty bites they provided too. These wines are symbolic of the freedoms that wine makers have here in Sonoma where anything goes. Just love it! read more

This review is long overdue but better late than never. Attended the barrel tasting event this past March for our annual girls trip. Stephen & Walker was our first and best stop. Debra was a wonderful host and set up a private tasting for the five of us. We had such a good time that we came back the next day and was lucky enough to meet Nancy Walker. She was so sweet and personable. Not to mention her wines ROCK. I served their Howell Mountain Cab to my former boss who belongs to a number of wine clubs in Napa and he was blown away. Stephen & Walker and winemaker Nancy Walker are amazing! For my 30th Birthday, Nancy agreed to a winery tour, barrel tasting and full tasting in the tasting room. Not only is Nancy incredibly gracious, but she is one of the most talented and thoughtful winemakers. She hosted a group of 20 of us and gave us the tour of a lifetime! We tasted Patrona right from the barrels, zin and a petite syrah-even young, before bottling these wines are incredible! We then moved to the S&W tasting room in Healdsburg. At the tasting room we had the opportunity to taste at least 7 wines. Every time, this list and wine proves to be spectacular. Each wine is as good or better than the last and taken in total is one of the best tastings you can experience. Nancy and Stephen and Walker made our day! read more

We had wonderful ... wonderful time in downtown Healdsburg today, until we decided to stop and try this " #Stephen & walker wine bar"... What a mistake!!!! DO NOT EVER GO THERE!! It was our first time there and the lady there was soooo rude!!! Even accused my friend to be a regular who had caused problems before...I couldn't believe she did that... Never seen a person in the wine industry so rude before... If you are around I would suggest to stay out of this place and try some of the other cool places and wine bars around. We love Stephen & Walker! Tasting rooms in Healdsburg can be a mixed bag, but the wines here are just incredible. We stumbled upon them a few years ago - fell in love with their wines and with their whole aesthetic (their label design is great) - and sure enough they were the very first wine club we ever joined! Definitely stop in if you're in Healdsburg. Debra is a real treat to taste with, you will adore the wines, AND they're open later than most tasting rooms! I read the reviews and had to come in and see for myself. I was surprised at how good this little winery really is. The wine quality is outstanding (yes, wine snob here), the hospitality we experienced is just tremendous and the space is open and inviting. We tried the wine and cheese pairing and they really did a great job with this - everything tasted better with the small bites of cheese. We taste Sauvignon blanc, Rose, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. Our server offered additional tastes of Carignane and Cabernet Sauvignon. We finished with dark chocolate pieces with a Best of Show Port. All wines are gold medal winnery 3-4 times over. You should really use the Yelp special and get 2 tasting for 1. Don't you love it when you go out on a limb and you are pleasantly surprised that your gamble paid off when you find that gem of place? That's how we felt when we walked into Stephen & Walker for wine-tasting. Totally worth the $10 tasting fee. The staff member who attended to us was knowledgeable and fun to talk to. We found several Zinfandels that we just fell in love with, an excellent port made with Touriga Nacional and Tinta Cao grapes (which is a rareity in Sonoma). We also found a Sauvignon Blanc that we really liked, which is unusual for us, since we are not generally fans of white wines. The tasting room had some very unusual but beautiful artsy wine racks that looked like grape wines made of brass/copper/other metal that I can't distinguish. read more

Stephen & Walker is going to enjoy much popularity in downtown Healdsburg amongst all the other tasting rooms. They offer a small selection of wines; I think it's better that way. A friend and myself enjoyed tasting the four wines S&W offers; we were impressed. We started with a Pinot Noir, a Zin, a Cab, and finished off with the "Portentous." I bought the Portentous and can't wait to open it. Lastly, the tasting room manager, Michael, was incredible. The knowledge Michael shared with us was very useful in following tastings, but S&W left our palates spoiled. Everything else tasted like Boones.
