By her own admission, Sarah works much more in a photojournalistic style; she focuses on telling a story through her photos, capturing moments and images that are both evocative and beautiful. I also appreciated that her portfolio was more muted and subtle with light and color. I personally find that many photographers are much too bright, even over-exposed, and I didn't want to have to worry about that. Going into the wedding planning, I knew that photography was going to be the largest single thing my wife and I were going to spend money on, so our expectations were high. Despite those high expectations, Sarah still absolutely blew us away! She was professional, communicative, and extremely easy to work with. Going in, Sarah was clear to ask us questions and get clarification for what we wanted from her. Even though she was travelling from doing a wedding the day before in another state, she was punctual, timely, and ready to go. She was perfectly unobtrusive during all the key moments of the day, yet managed to capture them beautifully. She took requests with grace, and even prompted us for photos during the reception that we were exceedingly grateful to have. She took to heart the requests we had made prior to the wedding and followed through with them with precision and care. More than anything else, I was extremely impressed with her vision and direction. Her experience spoke volumes--she was able to guide my wife and I with clarity and directness, while never pushing us or making us feel rushed. Consequently, we have an absolute abundance of really unique photos in a variety of backdrops and settings, all displaying us in our day of bliss. And with the whirlwind that is the wedding day, it has given us so much joy to look through them all again and relive all those moments. I cannot recommend Sarah highly enough!

Well this was NOT the case with Victoria. We had the pleasure of watching Victoria work at our friend's wedding last summer and knew that we needed to have her at ours. She made my wife and I feel completely comfortable on our wedding day and she was able to round up our wild families and breeze through family photos in under 30 minutes. Barely any pictures of bride and groom first dance. Pictures at the alter were strictly from one side and the bride's face is not visible. Unfortunately the academy does not have many photographers on their list to chose from. Did mention to the photographer and said that it should have been expressed. I am not the photographer, I paid you to take pictures of the wedding.

I've known several brides that have gotten married at the Naval Academy and each one has raved about his work! He was incredibly helpful in the planning, extremely efficient in keeping us on schedule that day and coordinating our massive family! Everything ran like a well oiled machine! And my husband, who is not a fan of being in front of the camera, even enjoyed working with him. One of our guests was a professional wedding photographer and has commented that usually when she goes to weddings and sees the pictures after she always finds things that she would have done differently, but in her professional opinion she said Mark did everything the way she would have and was incredibly impressed. The moment that just stunned me on our wedding day was when Christa pulled up the creative deck I had sent her months prior and showed a photo I had on it that represented the "sentiment" I wanted to capture from that night. She said she wanted to recreate that photo and had brought special lighting and planned the moment just to make it happen. I felt so heard by Christa in the moment, and that exact photo is the wallpaper on my phone today.
