Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised! We were recommended to Stepans by American Home Shield and usually the recommendations aren't great. Stepans was AMAZING!!! They came out super fast, our technician was knowledgeable enough to pinpoint the issue and made sure it was fully functional before leaving. Our heater went out earlier in the year, and during the first week of October, as temperatures were falling, I knew we needed it fixed. We babysit a new grandchild on Tuesdays, so we couldn't wait. First and foremost I have to start my review by saying the house that was serviced is currently being lived in by tenants. So the review itself is from my tenants to me. Second, this service was provided via American Home Shield as part of the warranty on the house. This company was sent to our house in North Hollywood and within record time the A/C was fixed. My tenants let me know the company was very professional with no thrills and gimmicks just straight up business. We called this company to have a simple A/C issues which was our AC unit not putting out any cold air out, the issue turned out to be just be a simple coolant which I got to learn from another AC company I hired after what Stepan did. Basically they sent a clueless tech over on our first visit who didn't do anything other than climb our roof and change something that had nothing to do with our issue, this tech was in a huge rush to get to his next job and wouldn't even wait for us to turn the AC unit he said he would, I told him we need to test the unit to see if its even working but all they care about is the money and they just left after taking our payment of $400 for a conductor part. Low and behold the AC unit was still having the exact same issue and these guys still had the audacity to charge us. Then Stepan also known as Stephanne Wizzman came began talking about how great his company is and didn't fix the issue still and didn't refund us, we repeated that the AC unit is not working and Stephan continued talking about how great of a company they are and left, we had to hire somebody else to fix our unit who charged us way less and was shocked at how we were treated by Stepan's company who don't care about quality of work and just treat their customers poorly and are extremely hostile and aggressive when asked for a refund. read more

Stepan, Margaret, and the whole team are the kindest, most helpful human beings that I have ever met. They were hired through American Home Shield as a second opinion (as the first company were grossly negligent and misdiagnosed the issue). In the midst of the two week long heat wave, we were sitting in our home with 85 degree temperatures with no solution, nowhere to go. We requested a second opinion, and that's when we were assigned to Stepan's A/C and Heating Services. My family and I couldn't have been luckier. Margaret was able to schedule us in within 36 hours to be evaluated, at which point, we received the proper diagnosis, and resolution to our problem in the blink of an eye. This company was chosen and dispatched by my home warranty (FAHW) last February for my heater not working. 1 star because Stepan's misdiagnosed my heater issue 2 times. 1st try was a motherboard, 2nd try was a motor, and on the 3rd try, they finally figured out it needed a new gas valve; which ended up being on backorder for several months. I know parts availability and home warranty claim authorization process is technically not Stepan's fault, but it really took Stepan 4 different visits to my home and 4 months to "fix" my heater. The heater was finally "fixed" and the claim was closed in June, which was summer time, so I wasn't able to properly function test the heater because it was mid-summer and super hot in the valley. Now that the weather is cold again and we have started using the the heater, but it has stopped working again after 5 uses and my FAHW warranty has now expired. It is also now past the 30 day guarantee they offer, so I am now SOL and have to hire a new HVAC company to try to fix my heater. If your home warranty dispatches Stepan's, please do yourself a favor and request a different HVAC company to handle the claim. If you are trying to find a knowledgeable HVAC company to fix your broken or malfunctioning HVAC system, please keep searching. If Stepan decides to do the right thing and offers to come out and recheck their work and diagnose/fix my heater system correctly, I will consider updating my review of them. Very good customer service. Our A/C was not blowing cold air. Stepan responded very quickly and came the same day within a couple of hours after requesting a service. Of course our AC died at the onset of a 4 day heat wave. So, we call our home warranty AHS who assigned another company to us. I get ahold of them and they say they can't come out for 4 days. We cancel, they assign a new one. I call the 2nd company and they say they can't come out for 6 days. I call AHS back, explain our situation and the rep took the liberty of calling around to find someone who would come same day. It took about 30 minutes to find someone but they finally did. That company was Stepan Heating and Air. This lovely man squeezed us in and came to our house at the end of a very long and very hot day to fix our air conditioning unit. He gave us a window of 4pm to 7pm, which we were so grateful for, and he arrived at 6pm. He did a full inspection. Fortunately for us it was a pretty easy fix and within 20 min we were feeling the cool air breeze inside our house. It seems the unit is running way better now too, the air seems colder. The tech was so friendly, he explained everything very clearly and even showed us how to address this particular issue should it happen again. Like wow, just so nice! Another thing Stepan Air did that we really appreciate is they called us once the work order was submitted by AHS to acknowledge our appointment and confirm it. Every other company they have sent us, and there have been several, never acknowledged us in such a timely manner. Stepan Heating and Air is honest, reliable, professional, knowledgeable and they had the human decency to go out of their way to squeeze us in when we really needed their help. If you were looking for a quick response don't call this company it took me 48 hours and maybe 10 phone calls to get a call back once the technician came he was fairly experienced, they purposely phased out my warranty so I would pay them close to a $1,000 Direct. Also when I called and explained that one of our household has serious illnesses they just said we can come back in two days and let you know if there is a cancellation. We were assigned to Stepan's A/C and Heating services through our (FAHW) home warranty as our HVAC stopped functioning. Eric from Stepan's A/C called us promptly to schedule our appointment. He arrived on time, was respectful, communicative, and seemed to be very knowledgeable with what he was doing. He was able to diagnose the problem and was very thorough in ensuring he addressed and fixed the problem. He had to call in Stepan, who arrived quickly, and they worked together to ensure the issue was fixed. They informed us on what the problems were, what work they completed, and even took pictures they took on the condo rooftop (where the A/C was) to show us what we were unable to see up there. Both Eric and Stepan were really nice guys and did such a thorough job I wouldn't hesitate hiring them again. If i have any additional work to get done on our HVAC, i would even request our home warranty company allow us to work with Stepan's A/C. Would easily refer them to others as well. I was referred to this company by my uncle and I am so happy with the services they provided. I have two AC units on my roof top...one side was not working at all and the other side was clogged up leaking from the drain pipe. I was able to get a next morning appointment and their technician, Araik, showed up within the time range scheduled; which was very important to me, as I needed to get to work ASAP after he was done. Wish we had the same experience as everyone else.. Our home owners insurance assigned us to Stephan's and the earliest they can get out to us is 5 days from now. I get it's hot and they are probably busy, not why the 1 star rating. The rating is for the extremely rude person we spoke to on the phone, she must be stuck in an office with no AC, she was absolutely no help and was just downright rude. If it were just me I would suck it up and turn my house into a nudest colony for 5 days, sorry neighbors, but I have 2 very young kids and was just hoping for a little sincerity. They came out twice to fix my heater. It turned on and was warm but both times blew cold air with an hour of them leaving. They told me there were issues with the unit and it wasn't safe, but then told home warranty the problem was fixed, which really screwed me over. When I called them they blamed it on previous service I had done 10 months earlier and they the technician said they wouldn't report that it still had issues because it would be "bad for business." After 10 days I still have no heat when it is in the 30s and 40s. They are rude and unhelpful and didn't fix the issue at all. Beware and go somewhere else! read more
