Very lovely dinner on a Tuesday night. Lauren our server was excellent at taking care of us. It's amazing to me how these small restaurants with unique menus survive and thrive. My vegetarian option was delicious, the flavors all melded together with the addition of the perfectly cooked egg on top. The schnitzel was crunchy and had a dipping sauce on the side which I am thinking is probably authentic. The red cabbage was just as I remembered on my last trip to Germany. A real hidden gem. I would go back and order the same thing again which is a true mark of a great restaurant in my book. read more

Showing some love for the only German restaurant in Marquette, MI. A great place to take a date or an old friend. I almost always make an effort to stop here when I am visiting in Marquette. It's surprising to me that there aren't authentic German pubs like this in more parts of Michigan, but it would seem that Steinhaus is unique in this regard. They're situated right in the heart of downtown, and relatively easy to find. The room is smallish, and not terribly well equipped for groups. Date night couples would do well here! You wouldn't think Wienerschnitzel would be hard to make right, but enough places don't do it right. Steinhaus has got this all important dish down pact. Just the right amount of breading and a very nice cut of meat. I was equally pleased with my red cabbage and spatzel. My kids ordered sausage plates and indicated they were terrific. I thought it look like a generous amount, which is another thing you can count on in every place you go. The beer menu is extensive of course, lots of stuff from Germany, Belgium, and other appropriate places. I don't even especially remember when I drank, only that I enjoyed it, LOL. Service was attentive but nonintrusive throughout. I'm not certain if we'll ever be back in the area, but I would love to come back here again if I had a chance to! read more

Checked this place out while visiting Marquette. We were walk-ins so there was a 30-45 minute wait but it was certainly worth it. The waiter was very helpful with our dietary issues and helped us order a meal that was accommodating. He did a great job, thank you! The starter pretzel and dipping mustard was so good. The salad was delicious and followed by schnitzel with red cabbage and wurst with sauerkraut. We were very pleased with our dining experience. Definitely would go back when visiting. read more

Prior to dining at Steinhaus, I had never been to a German restaurant before! I like that the menu is small since choice overwhelms me. Our group started with the cheese plate per the recommendation of our friendly waitress and we loved the cheeses, jams and breads on the platter. I opted for the wurst plate with two wursts, sauerkraut, caramelized onions and a soft pretzel and it was so good and so much food. I had more than enough leftovers for lunch the next day. read more

Dinner here was fantastic. My husband and I shared the mixed charcuterie plate and the Jager Schnitzel. The pork was thin, tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. The pretzel served on the side was really good with the whole seed mustard. The side salad was one of the best salads I've ever had. The only thing I would change is the price of the charcuterie plate. It seemed a bit high for the amount of food (or maybe they just need to serve it on a smaller plate so it doesn't have so much blank space). The quality was great and the service was friendly. Wanted to stop and have a quick beer and an appetizer thinking is was more pub-ish. Even though it wasn't exactly what we were looking for we really enjoyed our experience. Small German restaurant with a small menu of schnitzels and wursts. We ordered a couple of beers and the Charcuterie Plate and cheese plate and both were wonderful. I will start with the service the service, it was amazing. U can have rye bread or a pretzel warm with a stone ground mustard. The salad was spring greens with a house made maple vinagrette,it had a shaved cheese on top with pumpkin seeds. We both had the Jagerschnitzel with spatzele and braised cabbage, li had a mushroom sauce on the schnitzle that was amazing. The bartender made a drink made of a few juices and pomagranite syrup with vodka also amazing. From start to finish it was all very Good and homemade food. WOW!!! Where do I begin. Do not let the cosmetics of this place fool you. The interior could use some updating but their food is spot on. We ordered the Wurst Plate as an appetizer and we both got the Jager Schnitzel... and every bite was heavenly from the homemade dressing on the salad to the red cabbage and to the last bite of schnitzel. Wurst Plate - a photo of it is on their website-- and we ordered it. It looked nothing like what was pictured! (Bratwurst, kasewurst, sauerkraut, caramelized onions, soft pretzel, dijon, whole grain mustard) $16. Two small, flavor-less meats sticks, a schmear of two boring mustards, a 1/4 cup of sauerkraut, and two pieces of onion. Drinks? Paper Plane (on special) was in a small champagne glass... $12. One can of Vandermill cider: $6. 1 20 ounce beer: $7. The meal lacked flavor. Both 'meats' were so similar, that they may have been the same. Underwhelming is an understatement. This was our first time visiting-- and will be our only time. This was so bad that we ended up going out to dinner at Lagniappe as soon as we left. What is the German translation of WTF?!? read more

Certainly a Gem in the beautiful town of Marquette. Looking on Yelp for a place to eat we came upon Steinhaus. Great reviews so we gave it a shot. Steinhaus did not disappoint! It is a small place so I'd recommend reservations especially during peak dinner hour. I believe our server was the manager, Lauren! She's was extremely friendly and helpful with dinner suggestions. Our party of three ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer to start. Excellent choice as they are combined with apples and bacon and were very tasty! Our entrees were Sauerbraten, Jager Schnitzel and Weiner Schnitzel, the last two we added a fried duck egg. What is usually rare is that we each thought ours was the best! That's a win win win! Food was very good. We ordered a few appetizers and a bottle of wine for the table. Things were relatively busy and a number of tables came in after us. This would have been a 4 or 5 star review if it wasn't for the service. Although all interactions were cordial, I don't think I've ever been ignored for so long at a dining establishment. We waited over two hours with barely a simple acknowledgement of our existence. In addition, during our time of need, the wine was forgotten until we asked for it to be delivered. After a bottle of wine, and over 2 hours, our appetizers arrived! Additional wine needed to be found on our own at the bar. Kitchen was disorganized. Service needs to be sorted. read more

We had a fantastic dinner at Steinhaus. Casual German dining. The Weiner Schnitzel and Chicken Paprikash tasted like we were eating in Germany. Spaetzels and Red Cabbage were homemade and very tasty. The Brandy (sweet) Old Fashion and Pink Rabbit cocktails were very tasty. Friendly, attentive service. We'd definitely eat here again should we return to Marquette. Give it a try! read more

When I drove by this German-inspired place, I had to stop. I might have to blame it on my Eastern European roots: I love sausage, I love schnitzel, I love game, I love sauerkraut. I love earth-toned food. And this place did not disappoint. I stopped in for brunch and before stepping in, I briefly wondered if I was going to get the full lederhosen experience. It's not like that at all and I'm fine with that. I ordered the schnitzel with venison cream gravy and eggs with a side of breakfast potatoes with abandon. The portions are gigantic. I was initially confused by the schnitzel being planted on top of the potatoes but after thinking about it for a few seconds, it was clearly the smart move because my schnitzel maintained its crispiness throughout the meal and despite being covered with cream gravy. I could not finish the meal, despite trying my best. Everything was well-prepared but my main quibble is that there was not a whole lot of seasoning. I had to really hit my plate with a lot of salt and pepper and even then I was missing a lot. Cream completely mutes your palate and you need to compensate. Despite the seasoning issue, I would certainly revisit this place when I go back to Marquette. I am itching to try dinner. read more

Called for a reservation on a busy weekend. When they called back they hung up after 2 rings. I called right back twice to confirm reservation and only got answering machine. Left a second message. No reply. Showed up little before reservation time. Was told I had no reservation and I could not be seated. Party of 3. There were 2 or 3 tables occupied. No apology, just a repeat that they needed voice confirmation to make reservation. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. Had to scramble and wait somewhere else. I am undecided if we will try again on a future visit to Marquette. read more

A disappointing experience all around. We had a hard time finding the restaurant because the entrance is located on the side and in the back of the building. Once my wife and I finally found the joint, we ordered the soft pretzels to start but unfortunately they were dry and only lukewarm. We also got the cheese plate but after we ordered it the server informed us that they didn't have any bread but she offered to substitute the sub-par pretzels for the bread. The cheese plate was nice but they only gave us one small, dry pretzel. When we reluctantly asked for more of the bad pretzels the server said that they were too expensive to just give away so we would have to pay $3 dollars for another prized pretzel. Oy vey. We then got the weiner schnitzel for an entree and it was okay. We had a small table by the bar and at the end of the meal a large group of loud, drunk people came bumbling into the restaurant. The group of people were bumping into our table and putting their arms and hands on our chair. The waitress noticed our discomfort and didn't do anything to alleviate the situation. I would not recommend Steinhaus and I do not plan on returning. There are so many other cool places in Marquette so I would not bother wasting a meal here. read more

We won't return. 3 margaritas cost $45.00. This wouldn't be an issue if they normal size glasses. However, they were super small champaign glasses with approx. 1/2 a shot of tequila. We waited for over an hour for our food, and when we got it, the food was cold, and the gravy had solidified. We spent over $230 for four people. Too much money for this type of service. read more

Great food and service. The menu is smaller due to COVID and hopefully will increase again. We always try to come here when up from Grand Rapids. The spatzle is authentic homemade, the steak special I had was perfectly prepared. The special drinks are always fun to try. They accommodated 5 with no problems and all our food came out at once. Definitely worth it to try it out! read more
